Doll Couples...Together or Separate?

Jun 5, 2009

    1. Two of my dolls - the MSD ones - are a couple. They're both based on RP characters and are a couple in the story, so my dolls are a couple too. I got Michael first, and then Andromeda arrived later. I'd planned them to be a couple and they are united in dolly form at last.

There are two more MSD dolls that are currently on my wish list, and they'll most likely end up being a couple too. I like even numbers and I like pairing things up. Plus, it's more fun when you've got a friend ;)

    2. Well, my first two dolls were planned to be couples. I ordered her first and him shortly afterwards. They were pre-existing characters.

Then for another couple I was suppose to have one and my friend was going to buy the other, but I ordered (and paid for) them both and my friend flaked, so now I have both.

    3. I used to get a doll I loved and then search for the other half of the couple. My last two sets I bought both halves of the couple together at the same time. That is a lot easier if you find a couple you like.

    4. I had plans for fraternal twins, LittleFee Bisou and Rachel. I wanted to get them together but finances very rarely comply with my dollie desires. Instead of waiting, I put my Bisou on layaway at DDE and he came to me in March. And now I have a Rachel on the way. I wouldn't want to order dolls that I'm planning to pair up to far apart though. I would hope that the resin would match so... yeah. I do have plans for other siblings and couples/pairs later and I would either order them together (ideally) or at least within the same year (works).

    5. I buy all my dolls as individuals first and foremost. Their relationships with each other evolve over time. I figure with my luck, if I buy a specific partner for one of my characters, it will never work out the way I planned so I let them coexist and intermingle and they determine their own fate.

    6. I have two serious doll couples in house...

First, my now-divorced couple, Maxim amd Maura (DollZone Hong and DollZone Cherry).

Was it planned and did you order them around the same time? It was completely unplanned. They arrived a year and three months apart.
Did you have one first and realize they needed a partner? Maxim was home first. I didn't plan to pair him up with anyone, mainly because I didn't have any girl BJDs old enough for him. Later I purchased Maura to be another character, but it didn't work out. She immediately chose Maxim for herself, he didn't have any choice in the matter.
Did you plan a couple get one first, then get the other? Or did it happen a completely different way? After I realized how good Maxim and Maura looked together, I decided they should be a couple... but then I thought it might be more fun if they were previously married and then divorced. They're still very much attracted to each other, which makes their relationship rather complicated.

And second, my male x male couple, Tadashi and Kaoru (Volks Tony and SoulDoll Lune).
Was it planned and did you order them around the same time? They arrived about seven months apart. Originally Kaoru was just a character in Tadashi's brother's backstory. I never planned to buy a BJD to be Kaoru, but as soon as I had the chance to purchase Lune, I knew he would be perfect as Kaoru, and I knew they would become a couple at that time.
Did you have one first and realize they needed a partner? Tadashi was first. I wasn't planning for him to have a relationship with anyone in house. It took more than a year for them to finally get together and realize they liked each other as more than friends, and their relationship is still in the very early stages.

Or does a friend have one and you have the other? I do have some couples like that too.

    7. My dolls always seem to form sets of two, even though I buy them one at a time. I have three different kinds, and two of each kind. :p So they hang out with their own height I guess.

    8. I didn't originally plan to shell Gawain, but once I had him, I really had to get his wives. ...Yep, there are three of them. In my story, he gets married three times - once to Ragnell, who leaves him; once to Florie, who dies; and finally to Kundry, who survives him. In the story, the wives never get to meet, but in doll form, they will all be together... Now it looks like Gawain has a harem ;).

So yes, I definitely planned the characters' relationships before the dolls even showed up, and since I like all four of the characters, I couldn't find it in me to isolate one couple...

    9. I'd say it's a 50/50 thing here. I have dolls who's characters were in a relationship before I brought them home and I have dolls who's character's fell in love after I got them.

Right now I am working on finding the right doll to be Alice. She is Maxwell's wife from one of my many stories. Max looks a bit out of place without her by his side. I wanted to get him completed before I even thought about getting another doll but I think I'd rather have them together first.

    10. I would love to have a boy for my girl, to be best friends and then who knows! but i definitely want them to have playmates! one is way too lonely!

    11. I took Icarus (My Luts KDF Ani) to a meet up in Riverside. He has this little stuffed bunny that goes everywhere with him. I was joking about how he refused to be a little steampunk boy because he was too fascinated with bunnies. One of the girls laughed and pulled out Celina (her Soom Mylo) who has bunny ears and the cutest little bunny paws for feet. We sat the two next to each other, looked at one another and happily agreed they should be together! :aheartbea

    12. With my dolls, they were existing characters with developed backgrounds, and since they had partners I decided to create both; not necessarily at the same time (due to finances), but the general plans were put together for when money was accessible.

    13. Well, my husband does collect dolls/toy but not BJD's. He has all types ranging from Star Wars to Transformers to G.I. Joe 1/6 replicas. It is easier for me to justify my purchases and he does understand the love of wanting to collect so it's good for both of us :D

    14. Both my boys have some form of "significant other," whether they will admit it or not. ^^;; And both of these special "others" belong to a long-distance friend of mine who I roleplay with. :3 Neither were planned at first, but I'm kind of a romantic and since I don't like female BJDs enough to buy one, I found my boys' pairs in someone else. XD So Lucca's er..."admirer," I guess? She is an MSD Elfdoll Dami who belongs to my friend, and Bailey's "crush" Noah hasn't been brought to life in doll form yet.
I like to have my boys paired with characters from a friend because I think it's more interesting that way! :D

    15. I have two couples as part of my characters/story. I know their names and the history of their relationships and it is all planned out. I still have to pick out the female partner of one couple but I have the others all chosen. I will end up having the two guys first and will be getting the girls later just because that is the way I figured out their characters but I feel guilty for having them separated :)

    16. I only planned two originally, then they became a couple over time. It wasn't the plan with my third doll I wanted her to have a boyfriend so I could have a boy.

    17. i like the idea of couples or best friends. my doll momo has a charachter who is young and has a best friend that is supposed to to be a boy. so they are a pair of best friends. im planning to get my boy soon:)

    18. I have a couple, but I brought in the lady first as I wasn't even sure if i'm gonna get a big doll in the first place. And now two years on, she's still around and I'm feeling the need to get her guy/

    19. My second couple is now all planned out. I have Sahara already and most of her boyfriend Ezra's stuff is on order. Hopefully next month I'll have the money to buy my boy. And a third (Juliette and Cameron) and fourth (Lilian and Allister) couple have already been planned, so yeah, I do doll couples, lol.

    20. Seperate. In fact, Thom, which is my first doll (less than a month ago), is in couple with my girlfriend's first doll, Fei which she have for like... 3-4 years or so...
