1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll Faux Pas

Nov 27, 2004

    1. I think this is a very helpful thread as a fellow newbie. Are there any dyes or wig brands we ought to stay away from, also? I know black clothing can stain pretty badly. Any others?

    2. Oils of any sort = NOES. They soak into the resin and stain it. That means no people makeup or oil pastels during faceups, no perfume oils, and be careful of super greasy hands ("Colonel Sanders, meet my lovely new FCS Volks!").

Also, if you sand your own seams or do mod work on your doll, wear a mask. Resin dust is very bad for your lungs. *_*

    3. Also being careful not to touch dolls face-ups too much, don't wanna ruin their pretty faces. I know it's everywhere but for newbies, they may not know.

    4. Oh yeah. Its VERY handy to buy a few Mr Clean Magic Erasers. You can get cheaper versions which work just the same as well.

I always have a few so if any of my boys wigs/clothing stain em, I can take it right off.

    5. Thanks! That was quite useful! ^_^

    6. Mkay! I shall. ^_^

    7. SHARPIE. Don't sharpie your wigs, your doll's clothes, ANYTHING. It doesn't set all the time, and it can stain your prettyful dollie all sorts of interesting and streaky colors.

    8. :D I love you. Be my best friend?

My bit of advice... In all honesty. Stinky armpits and deoderant. My boyfriend came home from work one day smelling horrible, cuddled my doll, fell asleep, her wig ended up with deoderant and armpit smell in her wig... I had to throw it out there was no way that smell wascoming out.

    9. Haha. I'm sorry to hear that, although it is a tad humorous. ^_^; Thanks for the advice!

    10. Don't put your thumb on your doll's chin to move the head- I reccomend grasping the doll by the back of the head with the wig between you and resin. Won't rub at the coating on their face up that way.

    11. If you will have your dolls around kids, tell them BEFORE they reach and grab NOT to touch the faces :) My daughters friends always seem to go right for the little dolly faces....eek! And, I second that suggestion for Mr. Clean erasers. I keep them on hand and use them constantly!

    12. :wiggle Anything for a fellow resident of the Old Line State.

    13. I ALWAYS wash my own hands before handling my dolls...BJD's, Himstedts...whatever. And I ditto what everyone else has said...you've gotten some very good advice! :-)

Good luck and ENJOY your dolls! Don't be afraid to touch...just do so carefully.

      Mary

    14. I don't know if BJD clothing ever contains velcro... maybe some of the cheaper ones do... if it does, be VERY careful around delicate fabrics... I've nearly ruined many a fashion scale item with a careless touch of the wrong velcro side. :sweat

    15. Oh! Yes! That makes me think of the velcro sometimes used on headcaps to hold wigs on. It can grab and ruin some wigs...especially curly ones!

    16. I've made sooo many n00by mistakes! :o These are just a few of them:

      - Thinking 'One-Off' was a Volks ordering system ^^""

      - Thinking FCS was something like an Super Dollfie Cute ^^""

      - Not knowing what 'OOAK' and 'WTC' stood for (I still read WTC as 'want to C = want to see' :| )

      - Saying in a Gallery post: 'I like this doll better than your other one!' while it was in fact the same doll, with another wig ^^""

      - Making a pair of strechty-fabric pants so thight my boy's manhood... ya know ^^"" And then I took him to school too :o

      - Not being able to get a Delf head off (with the one touch system) :sweat :sweat :sweat :sweat <--- *drops dead*

    17. I have no idea what WTC stands for

      Enlighten me?

      Teddy

    18. Want To Commission

    19. Ah. All is made clear. I've never encountered it.

      Thanks

      Teddy

    20. I'll admit to that one. When I first started looking around for my first doll on ebay and was trying to get my head around it all I thought OOAK was a company of some kind. *_*
