1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll Faux Pas

Nov 27, 2004

    1. Too bad the mods mashed these two threads together. The n00b mistakes one was more funny than anything, while the Don'ts for Dolls contains some very useful basic info which we newcomers need but might miss now because of the main thread's title. Ah, well, they have their reasons.

I couldn't believe, when I was reading a thread about the lack of Senior Delf girls, that Bliss was male. I usually have an excellent eye for that sort of thing, and was SO embarrassed (in my own defense, what boy besides Raenef in Demon Diary goes around with his hair up like that, and who would think a "Bliss" was anything other than female? Not to mention the faceup and the turquoise harem costume) I swear that's the only time I've done the "That's too girly to be a boy!" thing, but they'll probably come and take away my rainbow flag if they ever find out.

    2. The dumbest thing I've done (so far *knocks wood*), is that when I heard of BJDs, I thought they were all toddler-sized. I was really surprised when I found out just how small some of them are. (Of course, with the price point, can you blame me? LOL Not that I'm complaining....)

    3. Those silly mods. ;D

    4. wow yes silly i was like huh after reading and the topic changing. ><

hmm, when i first started out i thought FA was for adoption and i thought it was weird, too bad i was the weird one for thinking that. I also thought Cp Chiwoo was a girl, i was ready to bet money on that, lol.

    5. I don't think I've said any embarrasing noobish comments...yet. *_* But there are those personal ones: like for the longest time I didn't know what CP stood for. And to make it even more sad, for the longest time I was blind to the thread containing all the abbreviations and stuff. I've thought up several guesses, but none of them were close to correct. :sweat Ahh, fun times, fun times.

Not really embarrasing, but kinda cute: It was when I first saw a bjd, which was my friend's and I fell in love with the boy. I wanted him to try on different outfits and so my friend got out his wardrobe. But then I had a REALLY hard time trying to clothe him because I was handling him with extreme caution as if he would crumble to pieces :shudder My friend laughed and then clothed him herself (rather roughly I thought at the time :o )

I did freak out on the price at first  (I never knew any sort of doll was that high :o ) And I think I did ask if they came any cheaper and my friend said a flat out nope, but I didn't protest. Instead I was like, "Aw hell. If they're that expensive, I might as well go all the way in order to get 'THE ONE.'":sneaky

    6. Just thought that after I searched for 3 days for this thread, I will post it no matter that it became slightly OT after the merging:

      For n00bs: The DO NOTs

Back on topic: I've never been too good about finding out the gender of dolls - so I always looked up the OP's answers searching for a 'he' or 'she' before I dared to comment:)

For quite some time I thought that CP and Luts were the same, and I didn't undertand why would they use two different names...

And when I first saw OOAK, I thought it was a misspelled tree. Then I realised that trees weren't really in context of the post, so I meditated about it - and I can proudly say that I realised the true meaning all by myself (I'm still proud of that accomplishment:))

    7. At first, I did that "all BJDs are Dollfies" thing, then once I learned that mistake, I thought any that weren't "Dollfies" were called Delf.

The price thing was my big newbie mistake, but mine was a little off of everyone elses - I thought that all BJD were at least $800. I was pleasently surprised to discover that this was not the case! (The one I just ordered was a mere $310, in comparison!)

    8. *waves hand frantically*

-I- thought that I could live with having ONLY ONE!!! DDDD8

    9. Yep! *raises hand* Biggest n00b mistake evar!

Actually, I think the more accurate question would be, "Who here DIDN'T start out thinking we could 'have just one'?" ^^

    10.
    11. On another board I was reminiscing about the first dolls I was ever allowed to hold. I thought they were full size dollfies, but was advised that they were msd sized. Which honestly floored me because they seemed so much bigger in my memory than my msd. I still have problems with sculpts and who is from which company, I always have to ask.

    12. Hmm, my first few meets the pronoun "she" would slip out sometimes even though I *knew* the doll I was looking at was a boy. :doh

And I once PM'd a friend asking her to please tell me what "CP" was because I kept seeing it everywhere and just couldn't find it. She very sweetly told me... and pointed out that I *owned* one. :blush

    13. I'm the lurker type - I like to get to know the territory to a fair degree before I ask questions. That being said, I am sure I will ask silly questions in the future. I think it's better to ask...;)

I play an online MMO and what I think is high-larious is that the most common insult is "noob!" *_* *_* *_* I tend to look askance O.o at anyone who has said that to me or others. "Why, yes, I have been playing the game for a shorter duration than you. How does that make me somehow less than you? Care to take an IQ test?"

It's ridiculous - how can someone be faulted for being newer at something?
      People can be so silly...

    14. I had a hard time learning which sizes were what and just how big the dolls were. MSD, SD, SD13, SDC that all meant nothing to me cause I thought they were all different sizes but didn't get why the SD dolls were listed seperate from each other. Then I learned it was the body type :sweat.

When I bought Rhiannon, I thought I knew exactly how she would look body wise (had pictures from sites) and was making clothes only to find out that all of the things I had made her were too big (used Volks measurements, not DollZone >.< ).

And like a lot of people I didn't get why you couldn't call all BJDs dollfies...until I learned it's just a Volks term and that the dollfie dreams are WAY bigger than I thought and the reason why dollfies were cheap was they were barbie sized. Remember when I found that out I was all "no way I'm spending $100 on a barbie!"

    15. I still blank out when people start combining letters and numbers when naming doll mold types...F15 head on an *insert unknown name here* body. I don't even register what I've just read in such instances...my brain skims over the nonsensical phrase and I move along. XD

I cannot even count the number of PMs I sent people along the lines of 'Which mold is that in your avatar/signature?!' XD *facepalms* The only doll site I'd ever seen was Luts, so I was boggled by all the dolls out there. And even though everyone kindly replied, and I've seen many more dolls since, I still can't recognize molds on sight..... >__>

And I STILL can't decipher half the abbreviations in siggies...it's like obscure US states abbreviations. I could spend forever trying to figure out which company DU or FV or JL is. XD

And yeah, I didn't know what OOAK was until I read this thread...and finally got around to looking it up. XD XD XD

Misspelling 'faux pas'...a purposefully humorous faux pas, or actual faux pas?

    16. xDDDDD reading this is soooooooo fun!!! usually i search around and try figure things out so i won't suddenly ask the wrong question... my friend, hyschara, has been really nice to explain certain terms to me... like why not all larger dolls are SD and the mini MSDs, since SD and MSD are terms used for Volks dolls only, and the rest BJD... plus after reading back a few pages, realize that dollfie refers to the Volks 27cm dolls... *head desk* riiiiiiiiiiiiight... will keep that in mind...

pretty quickly figure out the meaning of OOAK, WTB, WTT, WTC, FS... but took me some time to figure out FA... XD has quite a lot of fun figuring out the same thing for doll companies... but still am not sure what FCS means... >_> took quite a while to remind myself that LUTS and CP are two different companies... >w<

and of course, trying to properly figure out if a certain doll is male or female... X3 usually read the thread to find out the gender before commenting... lol~

yea... when i first saw Bliss, i didn't click on it, thinking that it must be another female doll... then after quite some time clicked on it and went :o cause like you, i also had that "Too girl to be a male! Especially in that get-up!!!" XD

    17. I don't think I've done anything n00bish (or newbish) as of yet. Except for searching for cheaper dolls. But that was only to see if there were cheaper ones that I'd like. Because I want one sooooo badly. Seriously, they are so gorgeous I could scream. <3

To tell the truth, part of my wanting a doll is to fit in. I mean, it feels weird being doll-less around a doll-based site! But having to earn the money might bring me a well-deserved wake-up call. I mean, I honestly question myself if I want, say, a MNF SHUSHU (okay, I'll stop talking about it! xD). I would have to wait for more birthday money from my relatives, then ask my parents for Christmas money rather than gifts. Or, maybe I'll just indulge in the gifts they already got me. ;)

Plus, I'm a total n00b when it comes to PayPal or something like that. So, I'd have to ask my dad, and then he would automatically give me the 'OMG UR GETTIN A $300 DOLL?! UR WASTIN UR MONEEZ' speech. And I can't do chores around the house for it. You see, my parents are totally awesome. They don't force me to do crap. So I'm more, 'contributing to the household' than 'working for the greenbacks'. I can't even wait for it as a gift they're so pricey. And I would never even consider stealing from my parents just to get it. I have morals, you know. :]

      Longpost is longggggg. :barf

    18. PayPal's actually not that hard to manage, though I can't imagine how it'd work if you didn't have a credit card or checking account. I had to get verified for some sellers on eBay when I was heavily collecting pencil boards, but once that was done, easy-peasey. Too easy, alas! :...(

I felt the same way about being doll-less. No one here treated me like a second-class citizen, but I'd read other people's humorous stories or best/worst experiences, etc. etc. and think, "oh...I can't join in, because I don't have one." This forum is full of valuable information, so I'm really glad I joined before I bought. I feel a lot more confident in my ability to fix him if anything goes wrong, for instance, than I would without all those many stickys!

    19. Well, I am reallyyyy scared about bringing up something as costly as a doll to my dad. ;_;

    20. My Aunts's maiden name was "Lutz" so I get that mixed up all the time.
