1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll Faux Pas

Nov 27, 2004

    1. I... still have issues telling whether a doll is a girl or a boy :X So I ALWAYS make that mistake when asking an owner about their doll... and I might've offended a few at meets :(

    2. Oh, right, I've been earning my own money for quite a while and I forget how awful that can be. Sorry! I don't want to drag this too off-topic, and I don't know squat about your circumstances...but the thing to do might be to set it up as a proper loan from him to you, with a repayment plan. He might agree to you doing specific jobs for him, like taking over washing the car or some-such, in place of money. There are some other threads on waiting/saving/convincing parents that may have better advice or ideas for you. <sits down in rocking chair, puts down cane and picks up pinch-nez and Jane Austen novel>

    3. That's a great business deal! Thanks!

      But I'll probably ask about it when it's convenient. My family is having some financial issues. I think I'll suggest it for my birthday after these issues have resolved. And it sounds easy enough, too.

    4. I'm still a noob. The one thing that always confuses me is what CP stands for and whether CP and Luts are the same thing. I'm such a DoD person, I know very little about the other doll companies

    5. hahaha~ yea i get what you mean... more so when it's a doll meet... and at times i feel so embarrassed to feel if the doll's a he/she... :sweat asking name would be easier but you don't wanna go "what's his name?" and then got a "oh she?" :doh

    6. I wouldn't call it a "faux paus" per se, but like a lot of people... for at least a year I was one of the kinds who went "I WOULD NEVER SPEND MORE THAN $100 ON A DOLL"... Well, now I'm saving for two that I think are quite over $100....... XD

      Actual faux paus--mistakenly saying I've been eying the Dambi longer than it's been out. XD Yes, I've been eying several things on Luts' site, but the most recent (and prevalent) one is the Dambi... Before, also, I didn't pay much attention to names, so I've forgotten the others that caught my eye... XD

    7. I'm still a n00b. Severely.

      Though I don't actually own a doll yet I've made several mistakes:

      -Not realizing that there was more than one company that made BJDs

      -Falling in love with a LE doll right before starting college

      -Realizing that the reason I fell in love with said doll was because of his resemblance to a character of mine, and then starting to search for dolls that would match the rest of the characters in the story. Which results in me wanting at least six dolls.

      -Assuming that SD-size was only about 18" tall

      Though I'm pleased to say I never did the whole price freak-out thing. Mostly since I found out they were made of resin and my dad worked with resin model car kits, 1:24 scale, several of which cost upwards of 100 dollars. So I just sort of linked the idea of "resin" with the idea of "OMG!Expensive"

    8. The only companies that I assume i'm correct in explaining, i've heard people FROM those companies pronounce them LOL Prime example....the Lishe. I've heard it called "Leeshay", and "Leeshee" and "lish" and "Leesh". But i actually did contact someone WAY back and heard them say "LEESH" in their language. :) So i guess that was a correct one :) the thing that i've caught myself doing time and time again is calling all BJD's DOllfies, when i know they aren't LOL Dollfies are one type of doll, not all of them, but the blanket term just stuck in my head. LOL

    9. Yeah I agree with you.
      I never into debate or a heated discussion...wasting my time...

    10. Haha, I did the "dollfie" thing too. The term BJD sounds...dirty, LOL. So it took me a while to switch from one term to the other. And when talking to the uninitiated, I still sometimes use the term "dollfie" simply because it will make their subsequent internet search a bit easier. For example, the word "BJD" on eBay brings up a whole world of strange things, but the word "dollfie" brings up nothing but BJD items.

      And I've always called her "Leesh", though I've never been to a doll meet, so I've never heard any doll name spoken. I'm pretty sure that if I do ever go to a meet, I'll screw up the pronounciation of all the names. :sweat

      I think I did the price shock thing a bit when I saw the Volks website for the first time, since it was the first BJD company that I knew about, and at the time the most expensive doll I owned was a $50 Kitty Collier doll from eBay. But then I found that prices can range quite a bit from company to company, plus there's so many different sizes of dolls, and realized that everything's relative. It's funny to see how many of us start off like "OMG! I'd never spend that on a doll!", then a year later have a dozen of them. These little resin beauties are seriously addictive. ;)

    11. ...I didn't know how to remove stains and dirt off my boy. I panicked.

      I thought you had to use some special liquid and cloth for it.

      Then realized HOW POWERFUL WATER WAS.

      I still hit myself up the head for it.

      :doh

      The sad part is up to now I keep forgetting the amazing powers of water when it comes to washing off stains.

    12. I dont know what a Faux paus is.. xD

      but mm i think the stupidest thing ive ever done was impulse buy my first doll based off of ONE tiny lil piccu because of the faceup D;
      .. yeah he didnt last long ;-;

      I never freaked out about prices, cuz i did lots of research/lurking so i knew about all the different companies, what to expect.

      and i never did "AHH i would NEVER spend that much on a doll!"
      ...
      but instead i was "AHH could NEVER afford one!"
      lol.. but i learned the power of saving.. (or rather... a summer job~)

      alot of silly questions ive asked were mostly, "would this fit a -dollhead-" ... "does -blahs- resin match -blahblahs- resin?"

      also alot of faceup questions xD;;;
      .... "Would liquid eyeliner work?"

    13. oh my GOD! I've been into dolls for years, have loved Ducan ever since I first saw him, and I actually had to go to DoD to check the spelling of the name when I read your post, because I just KNEW that it WAS Duncan, and was like "It IS Duncan...o_O" and then I saw that there's no N in the middle and I was like "OMG! WUT?????" :? So yeah, there's my newb moment. And my girlfriend even OWNED one a year or so ago...:doh

    14. I couldn't tell the difference between Dollfie Dreams and SDs at first. And that wasn't that long ago!

      As for current noobishness, I still haven't been able to take off my doll's headcap. :doh

    15. Urrrrm, I suppose I twatted on about resin matches a bit too much before I'd learned the intricacies of the search function. It now really annoys me when people don't use the search X3

      Oh and I dislike the generalisation of all BJDs as "Dollfies". I don't even call my Kanon a "dollfie" and she IS one!

    16. Well, four years on DoA and I'm still doing silly things.

      ~ I regularly mistype 'Luts' as 'Lust', especially when I'm writing to new friends I want to make a good impression on.
      ~ My doll's headcap once sprang off and into a canal in front of a busload of tourists.
      ~ Try as I might, I'm always forgetting the names of other people's dolls.
      ~ Mentioning in conversation that I don't care for a certain sculpt and of course the person I'm talking to has one.
      ~ Stealthily sneaking a Korean BJD head into Volks so I could guess its eye size better, only to drop it and have it go rolling across the floor!
      ~ My doll's noses get shiny and sometimes I give them all a quick MSC touch-up. Only one time it didn't seem to have worked; I realized I'd used gloss spray instead of flat.

      And that's just off the top of my head, I'm sure there are more.

    17. I used to think boys were girls, but now I hardly make that mistake.
      But my biggest n00bish thing was that I thought discounted wigs at Luts were dolls. I was all like "ooh, $17?" xD

    18. I used to think "elitist" meant you loved a certain type of doll, and only owned them. But without all the "Oh, I have I only have Volks dolls. . ." So I used to say "I'm a Unoa Etlistist!" Which probaly made you all cringe XD

    19. I'd also wondered about that, given that Lishe is an Arabic name (and given El's name, that doesn't come terribly as a surprise). Online I've never been able to find a site that tells you the correct pronunciation, either :( My inlaws speak Turkish, and while it's not the same, I should bring it up to them to see what their best guess would be. Or have hubby hunt down some of his Middle Eastern friends and ask them ^^;

      I've made the mistake of thinking all BJDs were one size before XD Also took a while to switch over from calling them all Dollfies to BJDs.

    20. Thinking that SD meant Senior Delf. I confused the heck out of some people on here.
