1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll Faux Pas

Nov 27, 2004

    1. XD ? Turn your head to the left. It's a smiley face.

I actually lurked for YEARS before I posted anything on the board. I still hate to ask something without looking first. To me, it's just basic common sense. So all of my noobish mistakes were kept very quiet, and I pretty well sorted them out before I said something really stupid on the boards.

If I'm not paying attention I'll say "Duncan," despite the fact that I know full and well it's "Ducan." I type Ducan. I say Ducan 50% of the time, but the first time I ever heard of the doll was when a friend called him Duncan, and it stuck in my mind.

    2. XD thanx XD i feel so much better-stupid but better XD XD XD

    3. I thought I had found a doll for a cheap when I was looking at the the price of a floating head. -3-;

I also thought all BJD were Barbie-sized because my brain doesn't work with centimeters.

    4. A friend had had her doll for about two years and when I was looking at the Luts website, I came across the El and was squeeing about how much I liked him.

She just looked at me and said "you DO realize that's my doll, right?" D'oh. No wonder I liked the mold - I'd been seeing it every time I went over to her place and saw her brood!

    5. *raises hand* I'm in this boat w/you. I'm more of a lurker than anything else, because I figured this hobby (&forum) has been around long enough, that the answer lies somewhere within these thousands of threads. So the search function is my absolute best utility at times.

& yes, I'm completely guilty of the Ducan/Duncan bit as well. I'll say Duncan & everyone I talk dolls to knows which doll I'm referring to, but I still chide myself a bit on it. I mean, I've known (&written) it for a long time now, just speech habits I suppose.

Also when I first started into the abjds all the terminology & abbreviations was completely overwhelming. (& every now & then they still are >.<) But if I'm interested in something I just remind myself to read around & try to figure it out, instead of just getting frustrated like I use to.

    6. I had a faux pas recently. I redid Sinag's face up and I misplaced one of her eyes! I was preparing to make her an eye patch until I found her missing eye while I was cleaning up my desk days later-- I had absent-mindedly placed it in one of her shoes. *-*

    7. I STILL don't know what OOAK means. D:
Also, say Puki Puki out loud. Preferably to someone else. IT SOUNDS SO WEIRD. Like, normal in your head, but out loud... D:

    8. Whenever I say Puki I'm thinking "Pookie" even though that's not what I mean. I get the feeling my parents think they're actually spelled "Pookies" sometimes. >______<

But yeah, another faux pas of some sort, I thought Dream of Doll was the only existing company that sold BJD for a while, that and I thought make-up came in little kits with the doll like real make-up. :?

    9. Huh, When I first got my doll I didn't know how to properly put the wig on. For a few weeks she sat with a half put-on wig then I learned how and I also pu wig velcro on.

Then when I first restrung my doll, I spent like 10 minutes to put her feet back on, I was doing it all wrong, though. I eventually figured out the proper way to reattache the feet and it was so easy. My hands were bleeding by the time I finished. I am going to remember to do it right next time.

    10. OOAK=one of a kind. I had that issue too. "wtf is OOAK?!*_*" lol. I agree, puki puki sounds odd to the ear D:

    11. 'Puki' is actually a vulgar slang word in my country (malaysia) >.>; http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=puki

    12. That is quite funny considering a lot of these companies are based in South Asia and should have a knowledge of their neighbours.

    13. oh my goodness*laughs*:o

    14. I have to admit, I don't know what OMAKE means. I've seen it in photogalleries, and have sat there trying to figure out what it might stand for. I still have no idea. >.>

    15. It's Japanese for bonus! So it's the bonus picture at the end of a gallery shoot, or outtakes on a DVD or whatever. It's just a little bit extra.

    16. Coby,
my story is a bit like yours - when i got my first (cheap) bjd from AOD , i didn't like her face-up. I couldn't for the world of me get it off with white spirits, so what did i conjure out from under my zink? ACETONE... with the result that 1. ALL paint came off like it should, but 2. leaving the resin very sensitive. Then I continued to the second stupid thing - didn't have any msc so i did her face-up without ... with the result that the colours sank into the resin, can't even be removed with acetone, so she'll never again be able to get a new face-up... so i'll never be able to sell her either... what a bummer, especially since i don't like her any longer, now that I'm spending more money on better quality dolls...

    17. This is a great thread for us n00bs/nubies/BJDvirgins...thx

    18. That is how their pronounced though, right? haha.

my biggest thing is not knowing the correct pronunciation of names and such...cause my affiliation with the hobby is mainly online lol

    19. I didn't know what "OMAKE" meant either until I finally got so curious after seeing it here so many times, that I wikipedia'd it. XD

One other is that even though I am such a DOD fangirl, I always say "Duncan" to myself instead of "Ducan." I have to catch it. I also think I pronounce things very incorrectly. I say "mini-fee" whereas everyone I know pronounces it "mini-fay" and "pipe-ose" rather than "pee-poes." I honestly don't know what's correct though.

    20. I know this feeling, I'm sure I pronounce everything wrong too. I went to a meet-up and was ranting at how pretty "OO-Na's" where and everyone was confused until someone mentioned a "OO-No-a" (Unoa) and I realized I had been pronouncing it wrong what a Noob move haha...
