1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll Faux Pas

Nov 27, 2004

    1. I mispronounce just about every name/thing that can be mispronounced, since I read the names more than I hear them...and for a while I was afraid to talk to other doll owners because I was terrified of running into elitist people (which I never did, of course. Everyone I've met in the hobby has been lovely. XD)

    2. I'm probably still a n00b, but when I was even a n00b-er n00b...
      a mere n00blet?

I didn't realize the dolls were supposed to stand on their own! It was only when I got my Baha to stand by accident, I discovered this amazing property.

On the topic of 'not knowing what things mean', how about Zoukeimura? I've looked around quite a bit and haven't been able to raise a definition anywhere
      ::curios tibbies r curios::

    3. That's a company, so far as I know. Really nice eyes and the finishing spray sold through Volks-mostly when someone refers to 'Zouks,' though, they're meaning the eyes. They come with the FCS dolls unless I'm mistaken, and can resell for $80 or more.

    4. I think you mean "Faux pas", and not "Faux paus", but I could be wrong...

When I started to know how bjd worked, I tought the eyes was very smooth and that you enter them from outside... *_* Like they're not hard and the head doesn't open, etc. N00b.

    5. Yeah, I know that -not that much of a n00b!- but I was wondering what the word, 'Zoukeimura' meant - if anything.

    6. Getting resin in my lungs because I forgot that my sandpaper was wet-dry o___O;;

      I may die!!! *sobs*

    7. I used to have no idea that there was MSD size and SD size... >_> So I assumed tons of SDs were freakishly expensive xD

    8. Haha. Kanji search to the rescue! I got the kanji off the bottle and looked them up on WWWJDIC and the translation it gave was

So there you have it. It apparently means a modeling village. :XD: No, I don't know what it really means, besides that they wanted the name to be associated with plastic models, probably.

    9. oo, that makes sense, really - 'community of sculptors', perhaps, or 'sculpted town'. I feel much more informed, ty!

    10. I'd been researching BJDs for years, but when I first got on DoA I asked how to write my address in when I signed up for Luts as there was no entry for state. When on their message board it tells you how to do it:sweat Other than that, nothing...yet

    11. I've never revealed this n00bish thought before...but I thought Mr Zoukeimura was the eye-maker :doh The same way Mr Shigeta is president and Mr Enki sculpted the first dolls.

Does that make you feel any better?

    12. Want me to confuse you even more?
I always pronounced it "Oo-no-a" until I found the website...
They write "Unoa" in katakana as "ユノア" which is actually pronounced "Yu-no-a"...
Also, "Quluts" (which I pronounce "Koo-loots", don't know about everyone else) is actually written as "クルス" ("Ku-ru-su").
      *_*

    13. Thanks for the tip, Mayu! I have never even TRIED to pronounce 'Quluts' aloud, because I had no farking idea where to begin. XD That makes me a veteran n00b?

    14. Add me to the 'still not sure how so pronounce some things' camp.

A friend and I had a chat about how to pronounce Puki. Is it like 'poo-key' or is it like 'puc-key' or something else altogether.

We decided the 'poo-key' option sounded better, although writing it as poo key seems odd.

    15. I say 'pookey', but my boyfriend says 'puckey', he says because they're small and fairy-like, it should be like Puck the fae, but I'm not sure Fairyland has their inspiration through Shakespeare

    16. What, you mean MSD doesn't stand for Mid Sized Doll? Really?

<-- still refers to them as such :sweat

    17. random quotes from the past.

"but i thought it was SUPPOSED to turn that color!"

"oh, it cant bend that way..."

"But i thought that part was supposed to come off! "

"I know i just did it...but how was i supposed to do it again?"

    18. I tried to cut bangs on a wig and they ended so messed up. When I went for my hair appointment I brought the wig with me and conned my hairdresser into fixing it for me.

    19. I've been pronouncing it puke-ey all along. How gross is that? :barf

    20. Still new but I don't think I've committed any major faux paus yet.

In the "cheap doll" area of discourse, I've made a list of all the dolls I'm currently interested in having and tallying around the prices for the doll as well as what's included as well as combining it with how much I love the doll body/face. I'm hoping it helps me make a better decision.
