1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll Faux Pas

Nov 27, 2004

    1. Hahaha! This thread = win!

      Hm... I don't think I've done anything too bad... (Cedric: Pink leather jacket incident. *kicks*)
      I did decide I could restring Cedric's upper half with nothing but a (weak) paperclip. I took a chunk out of my finger with an s-hook. Then I ended up disassembling a shoe to get at a shoelace to help get the string through his arm... And he still crazy-arms every now and then. -.-
      Then I thought I could easily get his head on and off without forceps. HA. HA. HA.

      As for sculpt issues, I thought B&G Lyall was a girl at first (I figured out he was a boy before I bought him xD). Same thing with Senior Delf Bliss. And I still can't tell a Hound, Saint, and Bernard apart, nor can I name their companies. (Help?) I'm also tragically bad at naming sculpts unless they happen to be one of my... ten or so favorites. xD

      OMAKE: And after reading this thread, I started yelping, "Whaddaya mean, it's DUCAN? It's DUNCAN! These people are so confused. *looks up*

      Oh.

    2. Re: pronouncing things --

      I still have absolutely no effing clue how the hell to pronounce "Yder" and I OWN one!

    3. I can't think of any specific doll ones but I can think of one forum one.

      I did a face up on my practice head with some uncommon sealer (it's a practice head, I'm not wasting MSC on it!) and I didn't let it cure(is it spelt like that in this context?) all the way before I posted pictures so it was still kinda shiny. I got the "OMG NO SHINE BAD EVIL" lecture and "THATS HORRID CAUSE IT SHINES" from like. Six people.
      I Should Know Better! You don't post things like that on the internet! No one reads everything you write! *head desk*
      Oh well, lesson re-learned.

      I used inexspensive chalk pastels to blush my March... But I don't really count that either cause she was sealed with MSC and the color was really good. I'm sure someone out there would tell me thats horrible to do though. XD

      I am a forum faux pas a lot though. I expect everyone to read everything not that I don't search and what not. I know better then that! I date an admin of a forum, I don't know why I expect these things. He's taught me better lol!

      Oh and I'm sure I say like... Everything wrong.

    4. I still can't tell the difference between most DOD SD boys.... and I wanted to buy a Lahoo once upon a time!

      I've always assumed to call it "EE-der" ...I guess that's cause of those Ys videogames. :sweat

    5. Seriously Oizys, that is the funniest wording I've read all day!! xDDDD

      As for me~~

      -I thought MSC stood for Mister Super Clean =w=;;;
      -Thought $300 was expensive for a doll----OH, HA, HA, HA, SO FUNNY...! >>;;;
      -Thought all companies offered tan skin [ahh, if only!]
      -Didn't realize the dolls were held together by elastic string---I thought the joints just sort of connected like an action figure, when I first saw them online
      -Didn't realize the boys were blessed with boy bits! xD

      Confession: ...still haven't restrung a doll yet... -w-;;;

      OHHHH, MY YOUTHFUL IGNORANCE~~~

    6. They're by a company called Dollshe, but 70cm sculpts aren't sold anymore. ;_; You can buy the two new face sculpts, Orijean and the new version of the Saint head on the crazy new flexible bodies over at Dollstown. But the old Dollshe boys you mentioned aren't made anymore [I really wanted one, so gah! ><]...hope this helps a little. ^-^

    7. When I tried to sell the eyes that came with my first doll, I thought they were 16mms because that's the size that Souldoll said he took. However, when the buyer got them, the ended up being 14mms. *_* I had nothing to compare them too, so I had no idea. She sent them back and got a refund, so no harm done, but it was embarrassing for my first sale. :sweat I will be more careful with future sales!

    8. *bows*
      I'm going to have to fix that restringing issues for you >.> Did for Rose. Bwahaha!

      Oh I thought all dolls were strung like the BJD's we're used to then got my hands on an offtopic doll and learned something. We're blessed with the way our dolls are srtung and that fact that they can be tightened and loosened and what not!

    9. Reconizing diffrent dolls is still a little hard for me but I can reconize mostly any doll. And Im still afraid to do a faceup on my Tintan even though ive had her for over a year.

    10. uh. . . i'm proud to say i nearly over-researched when looking for my dolly. but i guess one folly of mine would be when i snipped out the pigtail wefts of her default wig. . . because once they're gone, there are two bald spots, and i knew somewhere deep down, i'd never get around to stitching them back in.

      then i lost the wefts. >.<"

    11. I have a funny one...
      When I first got my doll I left his wig cap and wig on for an entire month while I was away, and when I came back HIS HEAD WAS GREEN! D:D:
      lol it was horrible, but luckily I was able to remove the green with magic eraser. xD

    12. I've been at this for a year and I'm still n00bing it up. xP I'm not really bothering to memorize the name brands of all dolls out there; I'm learning the names as they come along. xD Doesn't bother me--I still appreciate the doll whether I know what it's called or not.

      Hrmm... ;__; Well, my really terrible faux pas was thinking that every time there was a new version of a face-up for a doll (DZ Mo vs DZ Mo-2) I automatically thought that meant the head had a new sculpt. xP I didn't realize it just meant the face-up was different. Oie-vey...

    13. *snort* The worst I've done is left a doll wearing a mohair wig within reach of a dog that was visiting. Imagine my surprise when he took off, puki in mouth!

      No harm done to anything but the wig and my ego.

      Now I'm so paranoid about it that all my dolls go way out of reach before I go to bed each night. Or leave the room for an extended period of time.

    14. I n00b things up all the time. Especially eyes. Why oh why do all my eyes come out cross eyed? ^^ I guess it's just a curse.
      With my first doll, who was really loose, I totally un strung him, had him sitting out all ready to tighten up when I realized I had no clue what I was doing. Nor could I get the string down any of the holes. ^^
      It was a rough restringing.

    15. i have totally done that "chunk out my finger with an s-hook" thing. i wasnt even using a paperclip. i was restringing with NOTHING!! XD

      i so deserved it XDD

    16. Me too! XD I keep saying it different ways. I go to people asking about him "its ummmm... you know, Yder (Yd...er) :sweat " I just end up calling him Marion, the name I gave him, cause it is easier that way. lol!

    17. hmm, stupidest things I have done? I got upset when someone I respected called one of my dolls "fugly" in an open forum that will remain nameless, now that stuff rolls off me, and I hand out respect far more sparingly too. I have restrung one of my dolls with his feet on the wrong legs, it was a Hound, no S hooks, so it meant a total restringing, and just recently I got a new doll and assembled him...and stupidly put his arms on backwards! I realised straight away but honestly after 4 years you would think I knew better wouldn't you?

    18. To be honest, I'm kinda interested to know how this happened. I didn't realize the wigs could do that.

      Also, while talking with some friends the other day I mispronounced like.... 15 doll names. I was corrected with pity in their eyes.

      My soul cried.

    19. It's the dye from the synthetic wig that's staining the doll, just like a dark pair of blue jeans will stain as well. With clothes it's a little easier to handle because you can wash some outfits/pieces, but with wigs, especially if they come styled, it's not so easy to rinse out the dye without wrecking the wig.

    20. Mine had to be when I was browsing sites when I first get into hobby, I came across many bjd websites for clothing...wellll, I kept thinking that the bjd was the one for sale which was like $50 (for the clothing) and kept going: Soooo cheaaap *w* later finding out that it was the clothes for sale, not the bjd ^-^;
