1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll Faux Pas

Nov 27, 2004

    1. Okay, I'm a MAJOR BAKA!

I tried to be artistic with Ryuichi and have him stand next to a mud puddle in the middle of my apartment building's old-fashioned red brick driveway while I took pics a week ago today.

You guessed it. The wind picked up and FACEPLANT!:(

He now has a gouge in his nose and tiny holes in his forehead! I used magic eraser on his forehead, and got the worst of the gouges out, but I'm afraid that he'll need sanding for both his nose and his forehead. Not to mention sealing and whatnot. All I have for sealing is Testors flat, and I think this damage is beyond my knowledge.

I messed up BAD this time.

I'm not taking pics on brick or concrete without a second or being to far away to grab him ever again!:doh

Edit: two of his fingers broke off of his left hand! Its a good thing one of my bestest friends just gifted me with a dreaming Shiwoo head and it came with the same hands, but I screamed when I saw the missing pinky and ring fingers, and I'm NOT the screaming type! I managed to find one finger, but the other one...the fairies must have taken it. He still has dirt still in the gouges in his forehead, even after 2 and a half hours of magic eraser. I hope that somewhere in Ohio a customization meetup is going to be held soon, he's mad at me for having to wear his red headband in every pic I take now

This is the hardest fall he's EVER taken! I think I'll keep him inside and wrapped in a soft blanket for a while.:...(

VampireAngel13, I love you. I don't feel quite so bad anymore. I'm not the only one that's rough on their resin!charges. I still do and will take him nearly everywhere with me.

And Ryuichi IS a rock star, but I bathe him! ;)

      Ryu

    2. Am I the only one that doesn't care what a sculpt is, Nor can tell them apart [except for Luts Shiwoo, since that's what Ryuichi is] and waits for the caregiver to tell me what a BJD is?

If I like it, I'll ask.

      Ryu

    3. aww poor Ryuichi! I hope he gets healed soon! *hugs*

yeh I only tend to remember the molds I've taken a liking too as well :3
If it hasn't made a huge impression, I'll probably soon forget XD

I don't think I'll ever be able to remember the Volks mold numbers XD

When I was a newbie I used to refer to all BJD as dollfie, cause one of my friends did...
I was both embarrassed and relieved to be corrected XD

Even now, sat on my shelf, my dolls probably get more sunlight than they should -
but I wanna be able to see them, not hide them away!

      I'm still scared to re-string my dolls myself, even though 2 of them need it ^^;

    4. I am CONSTANTLY putting my pinkie finger down on the face-up in trying to do and getting it dirty.

Guess thats more habit than n00b but I GOTTA STOP THAT! :...(

    5. Well, thanks, AmyAngel, that's a surefire way to tell: Just look for boobs! LOL! :)

    6. Maybe I'm still a n00b... because I still don't know what "WTS" means......... And all that kind of stuff... Things like "OOAK" (now I know ^^') or "split" or "GO"....
I think the english vocabulary for dolls is very difficult for n00bs, especially when they don't speak english (like me ^^')...

    7. WTS=Want To Split, split meaning to, well... Divide, I guess would be another word. It means one person getting one part of the doll, like the head, and the other person getting the body, or getting a fullset doll and one person getting the doll and the other person getting the outfit. GO is Group Order, where one person orders things for other people and then sends them out from their own home, to save on shipping or to get special items.

    8. WTS could also be Want to Sell.
OOAK is Original One Of a Kind.

When I first got Shu Shu I touched her face ALL THE TIME. Like alllll the time. Somehow her face up is still perfect??????? What the? I am a face toucher and I need to control it!

    9. No, WTS is Want to Split unless the person is using it incorrectly. FS is For Sale. And OOAK is only One Of a Kind, no 'original' in there-or it would be OOOAK.

    10. I just learned, a couple days ago, that B&G makes the same face molds on boy and girl models... :sweat Hence the brand's name, Boy & Girl, eh? But I've wanted a Sunny on a girl's body for about a month, now, and only now did I learn that... well... that's what Sandra is. *_* I dunno, is it just me, or are the default face-ups for them different? 'Cause I still want Sunny as a girl instead of Sandra. :doh

And I'm sure I'm still faux pas-ing all over (I've only been into BJD's for a little over a month or two), but I try to disclaimer whenever I say much of anything.

    11. hmm interesting. I was looking for a DOA acronym post because most places that are not DOA WTS mean want to sell (I play too many online games :)). I also found a a few sellers using it in a non splitting sort of way. Although it would make way more sense for DOA to use WTS for splits. I guess you would not say it was wrong unless there was an official post somewhere. Maybe you could link it because I would be interested.

I always add the word Original in my head when I think OOAK. No idea why? Maybe I want it to be more special. But I think she might have understood me anyway.

    12. I have not been here very long and I think I am on a roll so far. XD No mistakes yet. I came in with a little knowledge in tow to begin with so I am not so much a BJD virgin. Though I do say 'dollfie' in public places with non-doll lovers to avoid confusion. 'Dollfie' still does not make sense to people but atleast it isnt borderline vulgar at first. LOL

    13. Over the course of this August, the 5th anniversary month, I've seen VampireAngel13 around the boards a lot, and have noted, at least two or three times, that she seems to be one of the (many??) people here who are knowledgeable, relatively laid-back, proud to be "that girl" who carries her doll with her everywhere, and most importantly, the kind of doll owner that I want to be someday: the owner whose dolls are still beautiful to other people as well as to herself, excellent and unique, and well-loved at the same time.

This list proves it: I want to grow up to be her! (and if #s 4, 5, 8, and 10 are any indication, I'm well on my way! ;))

I'm still newish, so I'm not yet done committing my faux pas; but I have the wonderful, illustrious help of Creations248, linda52, alanna214, and many others in the Pittsburgh group to guide and encourage me as I go. As a doll mommy, I think I'm gonna grow up justfine. :smallcake

    14. when my girl eyelashes drop, both my sister and i didn't know wad to do. and we used super glue to stick it back! but that is wrong... it affected my girls' resin around the eyes. and i had to send her to my friend, who re-do her faceup, and reparired the resin.
i was sooo glad. but tis taught me a lesson , no super glue is to be used on them...

    15. The stupidest thing I did as a n00b was search for them on the internet -not knowing they were called bjd's- and thinking they were these architectural model dolls ^^;;
      -loonnng story, don't ask- XDD

    16. I don't know if you are still following this or will see it VampireAngel13 BUT!!

I laughed so hard I choked on my own spit when you said you call all Kara Klums Alex....Mostly because it makes sense...but also because you are the only person I know who owns Kara's and since you have so many I call them all Alex too!! SO your Faux Pas are spreading like wildfire...

Also I totally cried the first time I took Carters head off and send it away for a face up glad I am not the only one

    17. It took me ages to find out what all abbreviations mean, for both marketplace and companies and so on. I know how to recognize most molds/companies nowadays though, which I'm very happy about.
I started out with 2 dolls, whose heads both went to the same faceup artist at the same time... I had NO clue how to remove the head and then I got all sad because due to circumstances there were two headless girls in sockdresses in my room xD
Half restringing my Littlefee to put on hooves was scary aswell. Elastic broke several times and it left me a scar and it took me several times to get them evenly strung etc.
I've probably done more dumb things, but I put them far away XD

    18. Haha I don't think I've said/done anything particularly n00bish on DoA, but when I went to my first doll meet, I realised that half of the names (companys/sculpts/etc) I had read online, I had no idea how to pronounce :XD: Luckily most people there were in the same boat, so we kinda laughed it off and I don't really care now. Also someone fixed up Clarice's eyelashes for me, and I had to admit that I had never taken off/put on her head before and didn't really know how :XD: But I'm the kinda person who is happy to ask for help if I don't know something, otherwise how do you learn?! :) I was slightly traumatised to see her headless though, especially when my friend put her hood up, and there was just this gaping hole where her face should be :o

    19. The only really nooby thing I did was address all bjd's as "Dollfies" and thought that they only came from Volks. This was when I was really new to the hobby though, and learned real quickly that this is not the case and there are plenty of other companies too. lol I made sure that my other friend who was interested in them got properly informed as well.

I cannot recognize sculpts though, nor does it really matter to me which sculpt is which because certain dolls of the same sculpt could look completely different. There are still plenty of things I need to learn though as well, like I have yet to restring my Iplehouse I who really needs it and neither of my dolls have face-ups yet which I plan on doing myself soon.

    20. N00b mistake I made... re-doing a face up and touching the MSC way too early~
My poor girl had a thumb print in her cheek for weeks until I could build up the courage to remove the face up again~ XD
