1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll Faux Pas

Nov 27, 2004

    1. One Of A Kind :) that took me forever to figure out too XD

    2. Hah! I don't have a bl**dy clue either....or the difference between LE and regular dolls, and if someone's modded a doll by sanding, I can't tell what they've done until they say....
I'm not a brand new Noob, but I still don't know these things....but hey, I don't care either, cos' I know that there are always ppl here to put me on the right track....and there are always new things to learn...

    3. I have a rugged time with all the F's, too. (Give the poor dolls NAMES!! :( )But my best faux pas is that invariably, in my misguided attempts to take pictures of the girl dolls, I end up with crotch shots. And most of them don't wear panties. I mean, it's ridiculous!! I don't do it on pupose, really! :)

    4. I've been in the hobby for almost 1 1/2 years and I still feel like a n00b sometimes. ^^I think my biggest boo-boo was thinking the dolls were the size of Barbie dolls. The first pictures I had seen of SDs were in the GothicLolita Bible and they weren't next to people so there was no size reference. While I thought the dolls were beautiful, the prices were way too exorbitant for my tastes. Of course then I found out just how big the dolls can be and that changed my mind. I must admit though that some of my first thoughts when entering the hobby were "where can I get a less expensive dollfie?" I guess that's why my first true ABJD was a MSD. I had purchased 2 of the 1/6 dollfies from Volks and loved the articulation so I went a step up and got one of the bigger dolls.

    5. Generally speaking I don't like asking questions -- because I don't want to be seen as stupid. I try not to say much of anything, actually. O.O Now.. my mom, on the other hand...
Last week, she and I were IMing each other, and negotiating with someone over the purchase of a doll. At one point, when I had informed Mom that the doll she was offering was new, Mom told me to ask her I could buy a used one instead, since "it would be half-off". ...I politely corrected her.

    6. I was the poster image of the obnoxious, stupid noob for a long, long time.

Now I'm just obnoxious and stupid XD no longer a noob.

    7. I think my biggest "faux pas" is not liking Volks dolls or wanting one of them.
Mind you, I like very few moulds- pretty much only male Delfs, DOD and Dollshe dolls.

    8. Am i still a n00b? I've been into them for about a year or so now, but i just recently joined DoA and such... :00

Anyway. xD; I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME recognize the majority of dolls. I know all the BF headmolds, Hound and Shiwoo [cuz they're so frigging POPULAR. DX], and the ones i really like. That's it though. All those f's make me sad. T__T Are they just numbers?!

I cannot tell companies from companies..xD;; i.e., shoe me a Volks and a LUTS and i will not be able to tell you which is which. [unless it's a Soony o__O;;]

i say LUTS instead of Luts. xD Cuz i think it's cooler that way. >.x -is shot-

uh...etc. :3 OOAK was the worst. i knew it meant SOMETHING!! and i KNEW i knew, i just kept forgetting. xDDD

    9. Koko, I don't see that as a 'faux pas' I see it more as having a personal preference. I happen to like Volks and own one, but I know that for every person who likes a particular mold/company there is one who doesn't like it.

I figure if we're all civil about it, there should be no problems! ^^

    10. I'm still pretty noobish, I've only been here for a month or so. I always lurk coming into a new hobby, so I'm learning all I can first. The price didn't suprise me, since my grandma collects dolls (I think her collection is worth over $100,000)

I think my worst thing I've done so far was the very very first time I looked at a doll site, I kept going "Wait, wait... where are the boy dollies? Do they make any?"

Should have known better, being a yaoi fan.

    11. "The hair and eyes don't come with the doll? Just the eyes? OMGWTF how do I get hair? Oh. So that's what the wigs are for..."

I didn't fully understand what anatomically correct meant until I actually registered on DOA XD
And... DF, DS, BF, MD, SM etc... all meant what company the dolls were from. RLY *nodnod*

      I didn't ask much at all. I was a quiet lurker no0b. Now I'm a loud, obnoxious no0b ;)

    12. I don't know whether I'm still new or not, since I don't remember exactly when I got my first doll or joined DoA. :)

The prices never fazed me, probably because I've paid similar prices for handmade and limited edition teddybears, swords, ooak jewelry pieces, dollhouse miniatures, etc.

I can sort of tell which dolls are from which company...sometimes.
I can't keep track of the different names, let alone Volks head numbers.
Partly because no two dolls ever look exactly alike to me.
Put four people's El's together, and I probably wouldn't recognize that they were the same doll, let alone know that they were all Els.

However, I could probably tell you what each doll's name was, and to which person they belonged. ^_^

Lol, I've not always guessed the genders right, so I usually wait for some clue from the owner first, if the dolls name doesn't give it away.

    13. Worst faux pas so far: telling someone that I don't like a certain companies molds very much and then learning that that person only ever buys from that company. It was embarassing, especially since I try not to hurt peoples feelings.

    14.
    15. haha, great thread, love reading it! The one I continue to do quite unashamedly is mispronounce and even get the names of my girlfriends dolls wrong, 'So run that by me again..is this a Chiwoo or a Shiwoo?'

    16. The F thing doesn't bug me since I have an F-02 named Yuu, the only thing that gets me is when people don't label whether it's a SD or a MSD so looking for a particular mold gets complicated.

    17. Stupid things I've done:
-Think I'd recognize a doll in person, then exclaim "What a beautiful _____!" only to be told I got it all mixed up.
-Wonder what would happen if I played with the cord.

    18. My biggest mistake, was when my friend first introduced me to BJDs and all the companies. And when she mentioned Volks, I thought it was a branch of the Volkswagon company.:sweat

    19. The most noobish thing I do is tend to lust after a doll for weeks to months at a time, then see another one that blows my socks off even more and then obsessing over that one. *coughDolkotKissmakeupversion3cough*

And this isn't noobish as much as it is affectionate caution, but I cannot pick up my boy without washing my hands first. I HAVE to make sure he stays clean. And I never let anybody hold him... We've had bad experiences in the week and a half he's been home. *shudder*

    20. for me it was thinking for the longest time that lishe and el were two different molds and that el looked much better than lishe. ditto for sha and shall. i thought sha was absolutely beautiful and was way better looking than shall. time to get my eyes checked i think >_>
