1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll Faux Pas

Nov 27, 2004

    1. Lishe and El *are* two different molds..:sweat

    2. already theres visual proof of my noobness XDDDDDDD

    3. eek double post sorry

    4. Yes my fiance thinks that the BJD thing is hilarious... so I usually say ABJD or my girl or dolls name or dollfie

    5. calling everything a dollfie. xDDDD (my friend with a Shushu still does that, it bugs me SOMUCH.)

Trying to dye Chrno's wig on my own. > < Poor boy is all stained and another n00bish thing I tried to do was sand off the stained part...now he has a kinda whitish yellow patch in the middle of his slightly purple face. I also sanded off a bit of his lip makeup and parts of his eyelashes. His wig looks horrible anyway, and it turned the hood of his sweater slightly purple, but I'm planning on making him a new wig out of fur (if I can find some in dark purple that's long enough to braid. > <) and selling his old self and getting a new MNF shiwoo. (pm me...? ^^)

I also crushed his eyelashes. Off. xD

    6. I love Luts. The first time I saw it I thought "Lust?", then thought it was a play on the pig latin version of "Slut=Luts(a)". Then, I thought that it was supposed to BE slut but that they arranged it so it wouldn't be blocked on those child-blocking things. :sweat

Also, I thought that Tinies, really were...well, Tiny. Like, a couple cm. I didn't understand how anyone could stand making clothes for them. :sweat

Just learned what OOAK means from looking through this thread...:|

I thought that the Mini Gem Quite Rabbit was a boy...dressed up in a skirt...the same size of a regular MSD...

    7. I knew FULL WELL the prices, and didn't buy the cheapest one - I fell in love first (after saying, "No, I'm never spending THAT MUCH on a DOLL") and bought him, but I do know people who have picked the doll simply based on price. I don't find it annoying, but it is a bit of a shame that some people only consider price when making their decision on which doll to get.

My big n00b moment...had to do with something horrible I did to my Ttori (who is, most certainly, a boy ~_^)

***WARNING - NAKED DOLL PIC (with bits blurred for at least a bit of his dignity)

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v254/edtel/Den of Angels/uhoops.jpg

I am still such a n00b. I thought the best way to loosen the strings was to occasionally pull on his legs (this might actually BE the right way, but...I dunno...). And...I suddenly had an amputee on my hands.

This was last weekend. But believe me, the crash course in re-stringing I got last Saturday night made it all worth it. I'm not scared to do it anymore. ^_^ I assure you, he is back in one piece now (but he STILL has kicky legs...*sigh*)

I still couldn't tell you the difference between a Shiwoo or a Chiwoo - or their gender, for that matter. >.<

    8. Eh, when someone first told me the price of the doll, it didn't phase me one bit. They aren't THAT expensive when compared to numerous other things that are a of luxury value, and if anything I thought they were very reasonably priced for the amount of work that goes into them.

I'll be honest, I don't know the names of EVERY doll out there, nor do I care to. I like most CP dolls, and I like certain DoD dolls. I'll look at other dolls, but I don't have time to hear someone be like 'OMG ITS A VOLKS F-343 CLASS LEVEL 5-C SATO YU-GI-OH MIX, HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT?!' because that's just childish. ^_^

I dislike greatly when someone gets flamed for "looking for a cheap doll" when they're new to the hobby, because honestly people just sound stuck up and snobby when they make fun of those people. They honestly don't know, so the people that get annoyed easily - well that just shows their character, really.

So as far as faux paus goes.. I don't believe I've ever fallen into a category as such. I don't restring, I don't faceup, I don't change eyes, and I don't go study doll molds to know EVERYTHING because my time is worth too much to me to sit down and follow every gallery post.

DoA has some very nice people on the forums, but at the same time there are alot of people that post very insulting comments to the guys coming in who have no idea what's going on. (Keep in mind, they're just trying to learn as much as possible.) It's rude, and it falls into the stereotype that most doll owners are snobs.

    9. When I was a Noob I thought Yder was a girl and it look me a while to tell the difference between El and Lishe on first sight. lol

    10. Shiwoo is smirkier....impish. Chiwoo looks sadder, serious. Both are male.

    11. I think my worst one was at my first doll meet up (at a convention), and I couldn't tell the difference between a girl's El and Lishe. XD; I also had no idea what anyone was talking about-- just smile and nooooddd.... @_@; I get easily embarassed in crowds like that. XD

    12. You know, I thought I was safe from n0ob mistakes, but how wrong I was.

When Luts first released pics of the senior delf, I scrolled down the entire reel of pics for Bliss thinking he was a girl. Until I got to the body pics. I thought "Luts posted the boy body pics on the GIRL page Hahahahaha!" It's my personal record for longest time taken to find out doll gender.

And this is coming from someone who thought El was manly : S

    13. I was introduced to BJD from Yahoo Japan auctions and I saw this gorgeous dolls and a bid price of, say, 4,000 or 10,000 yen and thought "Wow, that's pretty cheap". I didn't do the translation for a while to realize those were the CLOTHES. :nowords:

When I saw how much the dolls were, I certainly admit I had a "They're HOW much?!" moment, but it was too late, I was more in love than I've ever been with any kind of doll or anything. So I bided my time until I could go to Japan and get one. I just /couldn't/ buy one sight unseen. I had to hold it in my arms and feel it. When I did, the kind people in the Volks store let me hold Each of the four sisters (sure they're the same but... ) until I settled on Nana as being my first resin true love.

      H

    14. I'm so new to all of this, I don't even know enough to be embarrassed yet. Guess what they say about ignorance being bliss is true. lol.

    15. I've been on the internet long enough to know to look around a bit before asking noobish questions, though sometimes I'm still lazy or don't know what to look for, thus can't look.... I was heavily tempted to ask where I can find contests in which the prize is a free doll, but I waited and noticed some threads around about them... although many seem to require you to already have one. *sigh*
Although apparently either no one knows how to slightly age silk enough to only take the sheen off or it's such a noobish question that's been asked a million times that no one bothered to answer, so does that count as something noobish I've done?

I don't know much about the different sculpts though. I have found some dolls to be breath-taking, but I believe it's due to the overall look of the individual doll; not the actual sculpt itself, so I don't put much stock in remembering them. I'm a total-package kind of fan; some stuff I normally hate just looks perfect in certain cases for certain personas, and some stuff I normally love looks terrible in some cases. Therefore, it's hard for me to fall in love with a specific part or feature. Though I think there are some sculpts I just flat out don't like, perhaps. However, even those may impress me with the right set-up. I do sometimes look up some sculpts just to see what everyone's raving about, though. Hounds look a little anorexic to me.....
I think any sculpt can be a boy or girl, depending on how the execution of the overall individual doll look is carried out. :) Especially since some people switch the sculpts around anyways. For instance, someone's Hound in their sig here looks like a rather mature and quiet female librarian/book worm to me, though I know Hounds to be male.

There's also a couple of abbreviations that I don't know what they mean, but I try not to ask....

. . . . And shooting clay is more productive than a doll that you can learn sewing and painting skills on... how? ... Unless you hunt deer for meat or plan to be in law-enforcement or something.... Then I can see how knowing how to operate a potentially dangerous weapon is more productive....
But if not, dude, if you learn how to sew the doll clothes, you can learn how to repair your own clothing (and save money) or even do commissioned work if you gain enough skill.... And hey, looking at existing pieces that others have done can be a great way to learn how to do assemble a piece if you don't know how to assemble clothes already....

One of my friends absolutly insisted for years that Mana was a girl, despite my other friends and I arguing that Mana was male. She finally conceded when I got a volume of Goth Loli Bible that happened to feature Mana, and one pic exposed his masculine side.
Although Mana's as pretty as a doll to begin with, so I can understand the confusion. :)

    16. I find it really hard to tell the different molds, I ma getting better, But I was too shy to ask people at a recent meet up what their models were! It is a really hard thing to get your head round- especially when you get into FCS dolls!

I don't think I will ever be any good at this! I forget names of people let alone dolls!

    17. "OMG IT'S TSUBAKIIIIII!~"
      "No, she's a Toppi ^^;;"

      OOOOH. XD

And finding out Bluefairy and Angelregion LF had like the same body was an overload for me. AND. AND. Rainman sculpted some of the KD CP dolls AND has his own dolls...confused me and I had to no0b read up on that.

      I still find it hard to get in my head that SS, SwD and SA are pretty much the same thing ^^;;

    18. not knowing the difference between sd and msd. i had some odd thought that sd was the only size so i was quite confused when i saw smaller ones...i pretty much though sd was a blanket term for all dolls. yeah...

i cannot tell which doll is which by the sculpt(unless it's an el or a dod). i'll say "oh. i've seen that one before!" but won't have the foggiest as to what doll it is. i'm getting better though...>.> i also have no clue what the CP before El means. "wtf is CP?!" as such i have no clue where to order els(without the elf ears). i'm probably showing my n00bness right now as it's probably an obvious solution! *hides face* please, i only got into bjd's about a month ago! XD

    19. CP is Cerberus Project, who makes the Delfs and Kid Delfs at Luts. You can order an El there. :) That confused the HECK out of me when I first started too, xDDD

    20. thank you! ha ha. now i won't be in the dark XD though...now i'll know where to order an el...o.o *screams coming from wallet* "NOOO!"
