Doll Furniture

Apr 2, 2005

    1. I would love to own more furniture, especially a table and couch or chair, but since it is expensive and hard to ship along with being hard to find so for now I will have to settle for what I can make.

    2. Ive made Couches, computer desks, benches, coffee tables, chairs, futons, pillows and a few other things. I use about 3-4 diff types of wood depending on what im making and then 2 types of cushioning and various fabrics and wood stains.
heres an example of one of the things i made:

i have purchased furniture from Volks that i do have but im never lucky at garage sales or anything like that like some people.

    3. I'm planning on making furniture for my dolls, right now Tiyu lives in a bookcase, which feels a bit sad... problem is, of course, that I don't really have a lot of space at the moment, and above all I don't have a place to work on something like that, so it'll have to wait. Because I prefer to make things myself rather than buying, partially because I'm cheap and partially because I know what I want things to look and it just doesn't exist outside of my head ;)
But my dream for the future is to make enough furniture and such to create the homes of all my dolls :)

    4. Frankly I'd rather have your ability to make things than to be lucky and stumble upon them!

    5. I thought that at some point as well as once i starting making things in my room i realized theres alot of detail i cannot create and the mess i create takes alot of cleanup time.
Ive seen pics of things ppl find in garage sales that are cheap and much nicer than anything i can make lol.

    6. I mostly find things in antique stores, but a few years ago I found a perfect MSD-sized chair at a pharmacy! I still have no idea what it was doing there, but I could pile two dolls into it at a time. Ross sometimes has smaller things--apparently jewelry boxes that look like chairs are or were 'in' at some point, but they're a little short for MSDs. Most of my finds are from antique shops. I wish I could make things, too, though! Then at least they'd match...

    7. I dont think that a chair should cost almost as much as the doll, but I do plan on setting up a bedroom for my girlie. If you have nice designs and manage to keep them under a 100, I think you can do very well. Most of the stuff i see out there is very expensive and not necessarily nice. I think beds, couches, bedding, closets will be the most coveted. At least by me. Is what's hard to find out there. My modest opinion.

    8. I find that it's easier to make the furniture you want for cheaper than it is to buy them from these companies.

    9. I wish I had the patience to make my own furniture. There are so many things that I want that I never see ready made, even if I DID want to spend a lot of money on it. =_=

Alas, I have no woodworking skills... I still have hopes that someday there will be a company making a full line of furniture AIMED at SDs for reasonable prices. (Note.. reasonable!!!) And not just couches beds and chairs. :(

    10. I feel your pain there. I wish I had woodworking skills myself. I go to craft shops all the time and see how cheap the materials are. I just don't know how to work it.

    11. ahhh snarecrazi, i can't believe you made that dresser! were you a woodworker already, unrelatedly, or did you just learn in order to make things for your dolls?

    12. haha its not a dresser its a desk but i had onl worked with wood before in college to make abstract sculptures so i have some power tools. I had to get my bfs advice on how to cut, flush and add supports to make things that could support weight. After the first thing ive been making tons of things now

    13. snarecrazi -- that desk is amazing!

I adore doll furniture. It helps set the mood and create life in the doll to have a few props her own size. I also adore furniture in photographs, particularly single person sitting chairs/arm chairs--dolls look so cute posed with them.

    14. Today, I was looking around in The Wicker Emporium and I saw the cutest pet bed that would be the perfect size for an MSD double bed. I also saw a shelf shaped like a small rowboat, which isn't exactly "doll furniture" but would make an adorable MSD prop. It's a curio shelf, but I suppose it could also be an interesting doll-sized bookcase. :)

    15. I would love some Dollie furniture. A chair or two... But I can't seem to find anything that fits them. So right now my mini's are sitting on a cd storage box and the largers are sitting on the shelf it self..

    16. I luckily found a antique shop that took my request upon looking for doll furniture. She got me this awesome commode with 3 drawers, and thats where I store the clothing for the little ones. Its so big its in scale with the SD dolls. I love it. :D I love doll furniture, in all sizes please!

    17. Volks has exquisite but expensive doll furniture, mostly chairs and couches. Dollmore has a nice plain table and chairs set for about $120. www.artsinheaven.com has nice quality oak doll furniture. Charlies woodshop has lovely doll beds. Etsy has some nice stuff from time to time. I have a great green and gold couch that turns into a bed that was made for a small dog or cat, that was a birthday gift given to me by my favorite cousin who claims she got it at Goodwill for $1.50 , a lot of my best finds have come from flea markets: a handmade wooden rocking chair the perfect size for a sd13, a porch swing, and a white kitchen chair. My most recent find was a very cool handpainted pink and white shabby chic style dresser, Goodwill for $2 , I just keep looking everywhere I go, it is remarkable what you find. Anything you order off the internet is going to be expensive, sadly. So I really recommend looking at second hand stores and flea markets. I found a great set of doll china at a Dollar General Store. I always go to the toy aisle of any store I am in, because you just never know what you will find. A useful thing to do is to always carry a tape measure with you, I just keep it hooked to my bag, and have a good notion of the size of stuff you want.... an sd13 looks best on chairs that have a seat 5 - 7 inches from the floor, a perfect table height might be a foot tall, stuff like that is useful to know. Measure your doll and figure out by sitting it on boxes or pillows what size perfect doll furniture for it might be.

    18. I actually want to buy some furniture for my boys. I do have a prop teaset in a size that's appropriate for SD-size dolls, though.

I find that furniture props for SD size dolls are a bit hard to come by, though.

    19. i found an awesome rococo style and antique repro furniture local store that carries the most amazing SD furniture!!! as soon as iam able i will order from them, so happy that they offer layaway!!! :D
too bad the store doesn't have a website, even though the representative told me they had been there for quite a few years :( otherwise i'd post a link

    20. have chairs for my crews! i really like the rococo style chair/furniture for dolls:D desk as well!
but they are kinda hard to find, even i found them, their prices are:o
