1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll Nudity Warnings - Why?

Jun 20, 2008

    1. From my point of view. As someone who hasn't been into dolls and someone that is into them now. I don't like the idea of a naked doll. Even if it's nothing sexual. Yes I know nudist photography can be beautiful and I do appreciate nudist photography...but something about a naked doll...eh......I mean just because the dolls are anatomically correct doesn't mean we have to show it off. Ragedy Anne dolls also have a little heart embroidered on their chests but I don't see too many topless rag dolls hanging around either.

I'm not insulting those who do like nudist doll photography and I'm not saying that it shouldn't be done...because I have seen some that isn't horrible, but for any nude photography, doll and people alike....I think there should be a warning in case it's just not anything the person generally appreciates. It would be the same as asking why it's bad not to put a warning on photography of two boy dolls cuddling. While the person posting may appreciate it, and while we all know its not real, someone might not like the thought and consider it tasteless.

    2. I'll just add my half-a-cent worth.

Common Courtesy -- is no longer very common.

      What a shame.

    3. LOL. I started this exact same thread four or five years ago. I guess it's past time for it to come around again.

    4. I like the doll nudity post. For the people that would be offended they can pass. It is also helpfull if you are searching for a doll. I want to see the whole doll before I purchase it. So it works both ways.

    5. I think just pic of not wearing anything doesn't matter, it's more like a nude sulpture.
But posing weird poses must have a warning.

    6. It doesn't bother me if there are pictures of the dolls without clothing... I think the warning is generally more in case there is something that can be taken as "sexual", and that's a hard line to draw.

    7. i do not see the need for warnings. anyone MUST be 13 years to be here, and chances are we all know what body parts look like, and are mature enough to not freak out about it. if not, maybe they dont need to be in on this hobby anyway until they grow up.

    8. Have you read the rest of the thread by any chance?

    9. personally, i'm never bothered to see naked dolls. i like naked bodies.
I find it honestly unuseful when someone puts a nudity warning, i mean, it's not something offensive (usually doll people are way too shy to make something that is even vaguely allusive... Let alone something downright offensive!)
but i understeand that some prudes might get offended with it, and since it's humiliant to have posts or photos deleted people insist with putting those warnings.

    10. Seconding Babytarragon: Have you read the thread? The main reason there are the warnings isn't to keep from offending any "tender sensibilities" in doll owners. They're a heads up that maybe that particular thread isn't a good one to open on your lunch at work, durring a free period at school or a public library, or when your little nieces and grandma are hanging right over your shoulder.
The latter could lead to a whole lot of embarrasment and awkward explanations, while the former could get you in a whole lot of trouble or fired if the wrong person happens to glance over and see what looks like naked people on your computer.
We know they're just dolls, but they are highly realistic dolls, that can easily be mistaken for an actual person by someone not familiar with them.
Basically it boils down to common courtesy. Giving someone a fair warning, so they can make an educated choice.

    11. It's just common curtsey.

For instance: I'm a college student, and I constantly bounce in between living with my father and both of my grandparents houses. I like having the warnings there so that if I am not alone/at school/in public and looking at the DOA galleries I can avoid the threads that are labeled as having nudity.

It really does make a difference having them there.

    12. I think it's a bit odd since most dolls arrive naked anyway. I suppose that the warning isn't really for the nudity but the theme behind it...

    13. Most of my browsing occurs at work. Mostly for my own piece of mind I avoid threads with warnings like that just in case of an idling coworker taking an interest in what I'm doing.
That said, if there's no warning, whatever, it happens and I'm hardly offended.

I think it's a nice courtesy to provide a warning, as some people just aren't comfortable looking at Naked dolls. Fair enough.

    14. I think nudity warnings are sensible in the gallery threads, but it should be understood that in sales posts the dolls displayed will be naked or are expected to be naked in some photographs so the prospective buyers can see what they are getting. Same goes for box openings, when the box is opened and the cushions are removed, the doll is going to be lying elegantly in the buff.

It should come to no one's surprise that there will be naked doll pictures in the sales threads and box openings, not only is it common sense since most companies don't give any extras like underwear away, but a lot of us have first-hand experience of box openings and know that the standard arrival state of a doll is that of nakedness. In the galleries, I think that a nudity warning is fair. If you have lunch at your desk and you're checking out the galleries, you don't want your work buddies hovering in the background, watching you inadvertently check out pictures of naked humanoids. It could be damaging for your job for one thing, and highly socially embarrassing if you haven't told your colleagues you collect dolls & these dolls are anatomically correct.

    15. There are laws in some countries stating that you cannot transmit/show media depicting realistic nudity, sexual acts, etc. I haven't done much research in regards to why these laws exist, but I know that they are there.

    16. i like to be able to see the whole body, its a piece of art, why not. but i look at it from an artists point of view.

    17. I would be concerned about legal issues. When I had occasion to post photos of one of my BJDs I put a star over that area of the doll, because I though people under 18 might view the photos. I know my youngest daughter goes on more websites than I do and she's 15.

    18. Huh. Well as a common courtesy I think a small warning is nice. No one wants to be at work, school or at library and open something that will shock someone standing behind them. :] I don't mind the artistic nudity threads so much though.

    19. I'm seconding that people might have someone looking over viewers shoulders or browsing over the work connection.

I really have to say I did for a while think it was because of the same people that might've answered "yes" in that "Do you ever feel embarrased" thread that was talking about being embarrassed to look at their dolls naked. It's one thing if you've got a "Happy to See you" part on a doll, but just the regular nekkid doll thing did baffle the hell out of me. Glad to know that it wasn't really because of that, so much. XD

    20. I, too, have wondered about the nudity warnings, but can see the point if people are doing this at work. (My pet peeve is seeing a manufacturer's picture of the nude doll with a big red "X" over the genitals. Good grief, people... maybe it's a cultural thing.)

I sometimes feel like a voyeur asking a seller for nude pix of a doll, but how else to check the sculpt? I'm really fussy about breast sculpt and knee and elbow joints, but if you've seen one dolly crotch you've pretty much seen them all! If I'm looking to buy in the marketplace, though, a "nudity warning" at least tells me that I can see the whole doll and not just the face & clothed body.
