Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Doll Nudity Warnings - Why?

Jun 20, 2008

    1. Actually, when my 'nude' doll pix(which are non-sexual) aren't on the very front page they never get yanked. I try to keep them off the first page so that they can't be randomly deleted by the staff. That system works out pretty well believe it or not. The pix weren't on the front page and were, in fact, in my account for a quite while until the day after I posted the comparison thread. I have TONS of nude doll pix(non-sexual) that have been in my account for 6 months or more. I have reason to be suspicious as far as I'm concerned. Of all the nude doll pix that were in my account only those got pulled.

    2. I think it is silly, ridiculous, and annoying to have such warnings.

I would not let my daughter surf the net without supervision so saying it is to protect children is just another reason for lazy parenting.

    3. For body comparison or box opening threads I find it kind of funny because... well most dolls are naked on arrival and to do a body comparison the dolls cant be dressed to do a proper/full one. That being said, while I think it's too bad people are squeemish over artistic and non-sexual nudity - the tags ARE a good idea for gallery threads and other such. I browse DoA alot on campus and at my work... so while I would be fine viewing these threads at home, they aren't appropriate content at the University be it class or work. As for 'should be watching ones kids' thats true, but how are you supposed to know theres nudity if you think your kids too young to view it? Either warning tags or click and risk viewing it. So yeah, tags dont hurt anyone but they can prevent embarrassment or discomfort and HELP a responsible parent who may want to share DoA and its lovely photos with their kids. Now if you know you dont like that stuff or risk not liking it and there's a warning... and you still click... you have no right to whine etc.

    4. The funny thing for me is I posted this exact same thread four years ago. LOL! I wanted to know, too.

    5. Naturally I would attack things like "doll nudity warnings", but I know all too well the anxious thoughts of "ugh, I hope someone doesn't look at my screen and take it the wrong way". Regardless of my feelings towards censorship, I'm all for avoiding the stupid reactions of people who might stick their nose into your business.

    6. I've been curious about this, too. What people say in relation to being aware of who may be peeking over their shoulder makes sense, but whatever happened to the "NSFW" (Not Safe For Work) tag that's used on the rest of the internet?

    7. I kind of like the nudity warnings because I love seeing doll bodies, so I always click on the "nudity" threads.
But it's really weird what some people warn for. Like topless boys. I've seen "NUDITY WARNING!!" on several threads where it's just been topless boys or dolls with hair/fabric covering EVERYTHING. XD XD XD
Does it really need to be in caps with multiple exclamation marks in that case? XD "NSFW" would be more accurate. But maybe those people just like to make you think you're about to see porn and then crush your dreams.

    8. I don't really mind nudity on a doll as it will also help me to judge their body proportion and the likes better, but like someone said there is a time and place for everything. I mostly surf DOA at work and from what I know many companies are pretty strict with what their employees use work computers for. Not sure about mine but so far, i havent got any warnings for looking at box opening gallery or photos of naked dolls. ^^;

    9. Ive honestly never really liked them, I do search them out thought when doing body research lol like those spiritdolls with optional peens! I have had someone get uncomfortable because I am running a nobilitydoll go for a body and I had a refrence pic showing a tiny bit of actress boob. I dont really understand the stigma against it... you cant hide someone from nudity.. its everywhere and a huge part of life. especially when its for refrence or a beautiful picture. I have never seen any explicit hardcore dollie scenes around here, its all very tasteful, so I really hate the need for them. Seriously, its just a nipple, we all have them, everyone should be used to them by now lol

    10. All the pros and cons I have for/against nudity warnings have already been addressed, so I'll just say that while I can appreciate the warnings in the gallery while in public, I find it a little frustrating when someone's title essentially reads "OMGBBQ NUDITY CAREFUL GUYZ!1!1!!!!!1one!eleven! Especially if that thread only contains topless boys! A simple NSFW goes a looooong way.

    11. I disagree with nude dolls on campus being an issue.
One - people should not be looking at your computer monitor or screen.
-- This is rude and they deserve what ever bother they get by snooping.
Two - Our art classes have full nude paintings or nude with a cloth over them.
Three - Same class uses artist dolls for practice in human form

    12. Although I don't have anything against doll nudity, I generally take no interest in it and would rather not be browsing the forum an BAM! have it suddenly on a page I'm looking at.

    13. Some schools and workplaces have rules about what can be viewed on computers within the buildings. This often includes nudity. Just because the pictures represent nude dolls doesn't mean that someone who knows nothing of the hobby won't at a glance think the doll could be human and report it. Art classes are a totally different situation, with more freedom than the other computer labs in a school. You also can't expect people to mind their own business. Nobody can tell me they've never ever seen someone else's computer screen on accident before.

    14. Nudity of all sorts can be seen as a form of art i personally don't mind doll nudity sometimes it's nice because someone has body blushed their dolls and wants to show their work but many people believe it's not right for young children because they are innocent in a sense but i suppose it's a way for them to learn i guess but anyway a small sensitivity warning never hurt anyone :)

    15. OHmygosh. Thanks for posting about this. I have seen the warnings, and wondered about it myself, but since they are dolls it never occurred to me that someone might mistake it for real people or porn if they don't know about the hobby, or didn't see it well after taking a quick glance over.
I don't mind doll nudity myself, but I am looking from home. If I was looking from work or a library or somewhere public, I wouldn't want to get in trouble or fired or something because someone "thought" they saw porn on my computer screen.
I better go put up that warning on my box opening...

    16. No amount of supervision can stop a child from clicking on a thread containing nudity if there is no warning for the nudity, so this argument is moot. Additionally, I have a very hard time believing that wanting to supervise what my young daughter sees online if she climbs up next to me and looks at my computer screen (note: not surfing the web at all herself) is somehow 'lazy parenting'.

I went to an exceptionally conservative school. There were no nude art models, and no nude paintings. Someone inadvertently seeing a naked doll on my screen (and seriously, if you think nobody ever sees anyone else's computer screen ever then you haven't spent much time in dorms or college computer labs) and assuming it was a naked human or somehow pornographic could have gotten me expelled (and I had at least one roommate who would have had absolutely zero problems reporting me for possession of pornography if she saw a nude doll on my computer screen).

Nude dolls can easily be an issue on campus. Perhaps you're not altogether familiar with the way college campuses can work, and I acknowledge my college experience was not the norm, but saying they're somehow not an issue because of art models and privacy issues is idealistic at best. The basic truth behind the matter is that the world as a whole is not universally accepting of the unclothed human form, and a simple warning won't put anyone out and could potentially save someone else a great deal of grief.

    17. People who don't like seeing nude art may still like dolls. They may feel that their enjoyment and appreciation of the art is taboo, or to have people think they like nude art to mean that they're into something 'dirty'.

Also, if there's a love scene between two men or two women, some people don't really like to see it 'happening'. Some people just aren't into scenes like that. It doesn't mean they have something wrong with them. I mean, sometimes a train is just a train.

Plus, it may be for the newer doll owners who don't know the lengths you can go to with your doll and their character. It might surprise them that 'hey, there're two dolls making out - naked!' I guess I was like this once upon a time. It's also like warning people that there's a lot of blood and gore in a movie or video game. I think it's good to have the warning because I think a lot of people like to know stuff before they go into something. You don't want to be scared for life by seeing a picture of something totally horrendous.

(Not at all saying the doll pics are horrendous, just saying some picture out there in cyberspace may be burned into someone's mind - i.e., "What has been seen cannot be unseen")

Like I was saying, sometimes people can enjoy something better if they know the gist of what's going on. Like in haunted house attractions, some people benefit knowing beforehand that people will be jumping out at you. No one's giving it all away, but just a little, so that they can make a decision if they want to go in or not - personally, I wouldn't, but I'm a coward.

    18. lol i think that says it all.

    19. Gonna reply again, but this time it's about why I, personally, like the nudity warnings

I like having the nudity warning. Not because I have my own computer (I don't have one), nor because I view DoA somewhere always populated by people (because I don't.)

Quite simply, it's because I live with my parents, who so far disapprove of my saving for my first BJD. I'm not planning on showing them how they're anatomically correct with little dolly-sized parts, because the last thing I want my parents to think is that I want a doll for his little wang.

At the same time, I like looking at a lot of the pics on DoA regardless of what the doll's dressed in. But our computer is situated in the living room, which we all spend a lot of time in. Plus, there's the fact that they've come out with something called 'Jumi Controller' which can allow you to view your computer through your iPod. Not gonna get into how it all works, but in short, my dad can secretly see what I'm doing as long as I'm logged on to someones side of the computer (though I do know the cursor flickers when the program is activated).

So, if there's a photo tagged 'nudity' or 'partial nudity', or even 'NSFW', I know to stay clear of it as long as my parents are around. Because I don't want them thinking I'm being perverted because I'm looking at some picture someone took of their doll in the buff. I have enough trouble already, and I don't wish to add to it.

    20. I just think it's useful to have doll nudity warnings for users browsing in a public place, or at work. While it wouldn't both people who own dolls, some random person could get annoyed/offended if they saw someone looking at a naked doll. Or if they didn't realise that it was actually a doll.
