1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Doll Nudity Warnings - Why?

Jun 20, 2008

    1. I don't mind seeing nude dolls, but I do mind not being able to chose whether I get to see nude dolls or not. As said above me, it's polite and part of the rules to give a nude warning.

    2. I think the fact that you think it's a bad idea to browse this site in public shows that you feel there may be something that someone else who walks past your computer might find offensive. This is the same reason why people would like a simple nudity or nsfw warning.

I have no problem with nudity - doll or otherwise. I photograph my dolls nude myself. But I always consider others when labeling my threads, as I don't assume that every one likes to see nude dolls. I know I would rather not have to explain doll nudity to my boss if he walks past my computer, so I assume others are the same. It's all a matter of courtesy.

    3. Very well put and I'm agreeing with all the others that have spoken similarly. I have an iPhone that I use to browse all the time if I'm killing time in a doctor's office, sitting on a bus, drinking a coffee and I go on DoA a lot because it's very easy to kill just a few minutes by checking out a couple of threads. To me it's just standard internet etiquette on just about every forum I frequent be it a comic book forum, an art discussion forum, or a doll forum. No one wants to get anyone else in trouble so to me it's just respecting the other members of the forum.

    4. When I'm at my parents' house and one of my parents would catch me browsing pictures of nude dolls, I'd just say it's dolls and there's nothing to it. I've shown my parents company pictures of nude dolls before, because they were confused about the gender. I once told them I had ordered a boy with the money they gave me, but they thought it was a girl and were confused. So they know there are nude doll pics out there and they don't mind. Catching me looking at doll nudity does not make my parents worried about me, but not everybody is in this luxurious position.

    5. Ok lets put it this way and maybe you'll understand.

Most/nearly all doll collectors don't mind doll nudity, or they would not collect the dolls in the first place.

Many/most doll collectors visit DoA in places where others can see, such as young children, parents, classmates, coworkers and it's unreasonable to expect all those people to immediately understand what it is and that it's not rude. Even photobucket deletes nude doll photos.

Therefore, nearly all doll collectors would like the choice of whether to look at a thread or not depending on whether it contains nudity, and where they are at the time.

It's not a case that people here don't want to see nude dolls, it's just they want to have control over when a nude picture comes up on their screen. Then they can look at that gallery post or whatever later on when they are alone.

As has been said in this thread a few time, it is polite and considerate to give people the choice of when to view the nudity.

Is there anything you still don't understand?

(Ok there are a few people here who don't want to see it at all but they are a tiny minority.)

    6. babytarragon, I think that sums it up nicely.

I somehow missed this comment, but I've heard people say they include a nudity warning to get more gallery views. XD

    7. What everyone must always consider is how different someone's circumstance can be to your own. Personally, you wouldn't view this website in public places. But not everyone has that luxury. Some people don't have internet at home, some people live with less-understanding housemates, some people like hanging out in a cafe.

For me, I used to stay in a residential college with such severely limited internet access to my room that I had to use the shared computer room to view photos on DoA. This was a few years back and I can't begin to describe the painfully awkward explanations that I had to give to friends and strangers who had caught glimpses of naked dolls because someone hadn't labelled their thread here.

Also, let's not forget that this is an international venue. In some places of the world, viewing such nudity (even if it's just a doll) is considered perverse. If the doll looks young? Worse.

    8. You and I seem to have the same prospective on it. Doll nudity isn't offensive, but it is good to have a warning. I do it for my friends all the time - If I plan to send a BJD picture that is nude.

    9. I think it is a just so you know kind of thing. Justa a little oh by the way this is included.

    10. I don't get the dolllie nudity stuff either. They are dollies after all ;)

      *captain cecile pops out*
"who you callin a doll? arrrghhhhh matey i'm a pirate"....

aiiieeeeeeyyyyyyy never mind i may get attacked by the remaining pirates eeeeeeek!

    11. i think its cuz there r alot o' up tight ppl who sometimes check what a bjd is, or litterally, stalk thier childern on the internet(my parents). i dont really care. u click on somethin with a nude doll, dont blame the creator, blame urself for not readin the title. and come on, its not like its a human bean! its a bjd! ter supposed to be some-what like miniture ppl.(sorry if i offended anyone)

it is good to have a warnin sometimes, if ur with little kids. or with dissaprovin family.

    12. I agree beabasourus-rex! ;)

    13. The whole warning point was rendered moot when a mod merged my critique thread with a previously on going discussion thread and people were opening up their emails to be eye to crotch with my doll's flocked penis.

So my feeling is the warnings are just another form or over protecting that the US has gotten into lately and an insult to my maturity... and the maturity of 13 year old who KNOW that male dolls have penises.

    14. It's because some people browse this site at work.

After all, these dolls are anatomically correct and there's dolls in 'lingerie' so in the end you need to put up warnings in case 'kiddies' are around or like... your boss.

    15. Still moot because had they read their email at work or browsed that thread WHOA dolly peen

Personally if there's a chance of someone that shouldn't see it seeing it, you shouldn't be reading it there. You chose to read, I didn't force you.

    16. Exactly. I don't use the computer network at my job to browse "personal interest" sites, including this one. If someone can't resist the impulse to look at something like YouPorn over the work computers, that's their own fault when they're caught and canned for it. If I want to look at DoA, I'll do it on my own time, on my own computer.

Basically, I think it boils down to, "I'm embarrased about what others may think of me for my hobbies" when they try to justify seeing dolly nudity over work computers or a public network. You don't have to look at those pictures, and you're that insecure about it, you can wait until you get to a private computer to do it.

    17. Nudity warnings are pretty much for people who are looking at the site in public.
The number of people who would get offended at nudity (in a non sexual way) when it comes to dolls is fairly low. Some people perhaps can't get to a computer at home, but could get fired at work or kicked out of a place like a library for looking at "nudity." Also, some workplaces allow their employees to look browse the internet while on the job, but have a very strict porn policy. For some, a nude doll could be seen as porn even if it is not sexualized.

Even still, there are others who might be in a public place like a cafe with wireless access and want to look at Den of Angels without having nude dolls showing up on the screen.

    18. My naked dolly pics were removed from the critique forum, where one would expect nakedness, and stuck in the discussion forum where one wouldn't. Therefore the warnings are moot and serve ONLY to sooth the poster's conscience and have nothing to do with the location where the browser is at the moment. Seems rather hypocritical to get all huffy about protecting others at that point.

    19. People normally wear clothes in public. Dolls should mirror this. If someone is browsing at a library or maybe has to check their PM's on a friend's computer, they don't want giant naked dolly photos popping up and potentially embarrassing someone.

Just because a lot of people here are artists doesn't mean imply that they're all liberal. Dolls are supposed to suggest a person, and if someone isn't comfortable with gratuitous human nudity, they won't appreciate it with dolls either. The warnings are also there for people with those sensibilities.

    20. You are aware that you can buy Asus and Acer netbooks for about the same or less than the price of a doll? Not having a computer at home is not an excuse anymore with the pricepoint and availability of netbooks and open wifi points. If you can afford a doll, you can afford a netbook.
