Doll plans 2022

I may actually try to sell some dolls?? Or at least floating parts I have which are doing nothing. Then I need to buy some Blythe size tops because I think about 3-4 dolls I have will fit them. I just haven't tried it yet...

 

I just got into the hobby within the last few months and already have two dolls, so I'm probably going to cool my jets with doll purchases and just make clothes for the dolls I already have. I'll probably buy a third doll at some point but I have no plans to do so within the next year.

 

I'm new to the hobby, my plan is to buy my first doll (Resinsoul's Rui) and to work on her.
She's going to be an urban fantasy character, a "Queen of air and darkness" type who has a cover as a rock musician.

 

Checking in with myself two and half months into the year. Let's take a look.

1) Sold that doll!

2) Tried to expand my Volks wig and clothing collection but wasn't impressed with what I got for the money I put in.

3) That Comibaby Cutie is coming my way!

4) Didn't do the sale. Got distracted.

This year I plan on buying a new luts Corni in 1/6 size. And buying some outfits/accessories for 1/6 dolls. I haven't had a 1/6 before so this year I'd like to plan something new.

 

I love participating in this yearly thread~ Last year I did a really good job sticking to my doll plans, so maybe it works to concretize your plans in written format. I had a slow start to the year, but here's how I hope to work on my collection in 2022:

Faceup for iMda 3.0 Simonne + buying her accessories & clothes.
Faceup for MiaDoll Koi + buying his accessories & clothes.
Take photographs of my dolls.
Aquire a Muhan Doll sculpt (Chinese homemade artist doll)
Get a second Yuyudoll sculpt (still waiting on Zhuzhu fullset to arrive.)

I've come back to the hobby in the past few months after a 6 year hiatus to focus on my mental health. Naturally as a result of my absence and focusing on myself, the care given to my dolls has definitely gone to the wayside. With that being said, I'd like to spend 2022 taking care of my current dolls until I'm proud to display them again. This includes restringing, washing, some new face-ups, re-shelling a character or two, and buying them some new clothes/accessories. I also recently purchased a Gem of Doll Capricorn I would like to body blush on my own, and will be my first true fantasy doll. Finally, I am working on the office in my home which will include a space for displaying my dolls behind glass. Really looking forward to what I can accomplish this year!

 

I'd like to get my collection under control.

I need to go through ALL of my doll stuff (clothes, shoes, dolls etc...) and sell the things I don't really want or use, figure out if there are any dolls I want to sell and then decide if there are any other characters I want to shell into dolls or if I'm good.

I'd also like to hire a carpenter to put French cleats in my two bookcases so I can actually display my dolls regardless of their sizes/weights in a way that I can also customize where they are at any given time. I bought two Ikea Billy/Oxberg bookcases with full glass front doors last year but I've found that 1) they fall forward when empty and you open the doors and 2) you can't really display anything without some serious customizing. All of that is fine, to a certain extent, and can be corrected (you can anchor the cases to the wall, they even come with hardware for it) but after watching a Youtube video of a carpenter make his own display cabinet with French cleats, I'm kind of really wanting that now. It'll be like giving each of my dolls their own environment in a very small contained space that I can customize over and over again. My concern is really the cost and if small cleats can hold my gigantic dolls (French cleats can hold anywhere from 20-100lbs, but since mine would have to be small, I worry that they won't be able to hold my biggest and beefiest dolls well or for any extended period of time, like years). I guess I'll have to find a carpenter and see what s/he says!

-get a new body for my guy !!!( his DZ body is very beautiful, but not the right body type… his butt is rlly big too .. or is it just me? xP )
-start sewing
-find cute accesories!
-take more pictures of him

i am on the fence abt extra goals, like selling his body (cuz what if i have a floating head someday?!), and making eyes this year…. i already busy myself so much to begin with x0

 

My goals for this year are to start sewing clothes for my existing dolls, re-do faceups! I already bought a doll this year so unless I see any good second-hand deals I don't think it's in my best interest to bring home another one haha.

 

I've gotten rid of two dolls and ordered four more. Oops...haha.

 

I am new to the hobby - I’ve ordered one doll, one head + some accessories so far this year. I plan to:
* save for Switch 65 boy body
* plan the styling and character/backstory for both of my boys
* learn some basic hand-sewing or machine-sewing?
* make a wishlist of dolls I’d love to have - being a newbie in BJD world is like plunging headfirst into an alternate dimension, I constantly find new astonishing molds.

 

My plan for the year would be to add at least one more dod to my collection and buy granado mads when he is available again. And invest in some nice clothes I guess

So. A bunch of the practical things I wanted to get done did not get done. This has been a bender of a year, and it isn't pretty. Among the things that suffered were faceups. I went in to do things and just... did not get my mojo back. I have lost the touch. However, I find that if I have more of a plan, as opposed to winging it like I usually do, the results come out better. Thus I'll shoot to utilize this fall with a different approach. I may put off finishing that commission until I can get my skills back up to snuff. I want to do the best I can.

Once again my resin plans were sabotaged in the best way. A bunch of grails and high-wants either fell into my lap or were re-released. I was also able to get four different dolls bodied, although two of them are going out. Impulse purchases were fewer; most of them have been things I was specifically after. Only having one doll planned for the year helped. I suspect that one of these years I will still get that SD grey body, because the newer Soom hip design is broken. I see that they have updated it since, and I am salty that we weren't offered it separately like Dollstown did with their knees. There is no reconciling it without mods.

I fell hard into vinyl. Completing either my Smart Doll Tomorrow or my Angel Philia K was on the list, but then along came a blue Gemini head. A couple of months later, a blue body. I couldn't believe it. Later still, I made a trade offer on a Cocoa girl who was up for sale, and her owner accepted. So I managed to get both Tomorrow and a whole blue doll. Then I joined the Smart Doll and Dollfie sales Facebook groups. Big mistake. Vinyl goals are now in my future, and I think I'll make them a priority going into next year. I'm excited for the things I've acquired now.

Unless something dazzling is announced, for the first time in years I have no plans for next year when it comes to new dolls. We'll see if that holds true by December. I do keep an eye on what Studio Bitamin, QuartzStarDolls, Nanyalin, and DoDoDreams are up to, but that's distant future hypothetical.

Right now, my biggest priorities are paying off current layaways, and picking one of two vinyl goals to work towards. There's a possibility I'll be participating in Frappzilla Moons 1.2 if I can make it, and a tiny I've been eyeing, but that's iffy. Next year I have a specific budget structure, and I'm going to do my best to stick with it, and see how to fit the hobby within it.

Finally, if there is one thing I've learned from the past few years, it is that I'm not ready for a 'packable' collection. That is the future goal. But until the current residents no longer inspire me, I'm happy with most of my long-term tenants. I've whittled it down to faces most likely to stay, and they're consistent. There are a few in particular I'm excited to introduce once I can get the details and photography space worked out. Focusing more energy and budget on things beyond the hobby should help me achieve that in the long run.

 

Bought first dolls and gonna make some crafts this year.

 

At the beginning of this year I had no plans to become active in the hobby at this time. Buuut... that changed a few months in, and here I am. I've acquired new dolls, clothes, wigs, eyes, props, etc. I plan to actually learn to do face-ups, and even have a practice head and the stuff to do so... just got to get my partner to teach me the basics...

 

Figured it might be fun to come back with a September update!

• bought a yosd doll after all! Putting my collection to a total of... 4 whole dolls, wow xD
• ended up impulse buying an off-topic doll, despite the 'no more other dolls' rule...
• wigs, eyes, clothes and shoes are an ongoing process! Mostly in the clothes and shoes department, haha
• still slowly improving on my phone photography skills. Slow but steady is the aim here
• still no proper doll display space yet, alas. Working around a really tiny space is tough;;
• gained an msd doll stand! Currently in no rush to gain more due to the above problem
• joined a bjd discord!
• organized storage for doll clothes and shoes!

And here are some new goals:

• sell Viola's old body and buy her the better v2 body from Myou
• sell some doll items I haven't touched/no longer vibe with
• invest in some restyling tools/products to re-touch up your doll's wigs
• continue to figure out how-to-diorama-room for your dolls (commit to 1 size or one size each for yosd and msd)
• figure out a VERY simple background for photographing your dolls
• also invest in a Ring light or an LED light (or both)

My plans are trying to get lady Oscar this year. And maybe macha too. But the price for macha is so high on the market at the moment.

 

I'm definitely going to be buying the newly announced KAITO DD. I'm also still hoping for Volks to rerelease the Hatsune Miku reboot DD since I have extra outfits for her that I'd like to be able to display. I've also been eyeing Ringdoll Ashford EVO recently, but he's very expensive and I don't have unlimited funds, so we'll see.
