Doll undergarments a necessity?

Adding on to my previous response. I've recently come across several pairs of pants that either due to the type of snap being used, the age of the item, or the tightness of the pants, the snap or button at the crotch rubs slightly on my doll's abdomen. While I haven't seen any serious damage from this, I was exceedingly miffed to find some blushing I had worked on was scratched away and needing a do-over. This hadn't come up for me on my previous dolls, mostly because they either don't have a lot of detailed blushwork (or tattooing that went below the belly button) OR they don't wear pants that have snaps in that area. I had to get some more general flat/stretchy and tall cut underwear to protect the blushing.

 

I think underwear is a neccessary so I bought a lot and used it to all of my child, not only because I believe it could make my child feel comfortable but also because it helps avoid color transfering...
(I heard about bad cases of color transfering, stain and so on from clothing and it really became nightmare for me!)

 

Out of the 14 dolls that have bodies here currently only one is wearing underwear and that only because her dress is super short. XD;

Usually I find it just makes things lumpy and so many girl underwear pieces have random bows/roses/whatever on them that make ugly bumps under clothes.

 

I think you could find a blank simple one without any silly attached accessories. Some of them used same material with human's one which won't stain to the resin and simple enough for you to use.

 

Quite probably, the issue ends up being most of the time if I'm ordering something it's like... Eyes or wigs from a company that doesn't really sell suitable underwear, or if they do it's sold out, and it doesn't bother me enough that they don't have it to bother making an order just for underwear. XD;

 

Any of my girls in skirts get panties. Just for propriety. And most of my guys who wear pants get undies because it helps protect their bums from staining. They always tend to stain pretty badly around that area from sitting and such. Around their knees, too.

I think the only two boys who don’t wear undies are Solstice, my Soom deer boy, but that’s mostly because they’d never fit over his big deer hooves. And Ryujinn, my F65 Roke doesn’t wear them because it’s part of his character to go commando.

 

It's been said before, but it bears repeating. Skirts get underwear. For pants it tends to actually become more of a hassle to get everything to lay right since doll underwear usually isn't skintight, but skirts that issue goes away, and it becomes a propriety issue.

 

I put my dolls in skirts and dresses, so I like to have them wear bloomers underneath. I don't really like the way a lot of doll underwear looks, but I think bloomers are really cute (although I may be biased since I wear lolita fashion) so I think it's a good way to meet in the middle! I don't put them in bras, though-- they're all fairly flat chested.

 

Yup, same for me - skirts get undies, pants don't. And if I undress my dolls I put a pair of undies on them while they are otherwise naked. The naked crotch area makes me a bit uncomfortable. Except with my pukifee, because they don't have any sculpted genitals.

 

This thread made me painfully aware that none of my dolls own any underwear. I'll have to look into getting them some. Most of my dolls are tinies and almost none of them have genitalia so I've never gotten uncomfortable. Well, to be honest I don't get uncomfortable when they have genitalia either. It's just resin. When any of my dolls are naked I do tend to roll them up in a blanket/towel/cloth just to protect them a little. I guess that's why I never felt the need to cover them up otherwise.

Although I'd love some cute undies for sure I don't think tinies would want to show them off much, if any. I can't think of a situation where it would be appropriate. Perhaps if they just sleep in their undies? I might get some to wear under skirts/dresses when tights aren't being worn.

 

As a child I seemed to be concerned if my dolls did not have underwear on but they were much bigger, vinyl or cloth bodied so pants were easier for them to wear. In regard to BJD I think it depends on the doll company and the size. I probably won't be putting any on a possible Realpuki but for another I may be considering buying a pair.

 

If the doll comes with undergarments then I'll keep them on. If not, I don't really bother. The only exception is if one of my dolls has on a shorter skirt or something.

 

I never, ever dress my dolls in underwear. I'm not even sure if I own any for them. I photograph them fully-clothed so it won't be seen anyway, and it doesn't bother me personally. Even though BJD underwear usually doesn't cost a lot, I'd rather just put that money towards outfits/wigs.

 

I don’t think it’s a necessity under modern style clothing but I enjoy pretty underthings and I think miniature ones are really sweet. No doll bras yet. But plenty of panties, bloomers, stockings etc. Also looking forward to stays, corsets, chemises, bustles...historical underpinnings for shape.

Wow, that little garter set is just absolutely adorable!

 

I know this is really silly but with boy dolls I'd like to have them wearing underwear because it's just less awkward to change them without it being out. I don't have any boys with joints there but I also feel like underwear would protect that as well as keeping it out of sight. Plus I've already had enough awkward encounters of people just touching it while I'm trying to change them or sew trousers that really made me wish I'd had pants on hand! xD (very odd for the first instinct to just be to boop but oh well).

With girls, I think I'll have a few pairs on hand for when I want them in a shorter skirt, but otherwise I don't really feel it's necessary, especially since a lot of the clothes are more form fitting so it just gets lumpy looking with underwear, plus I just feel like they'll be more comfy without, again that's another silly notion xD no pants no problems apparently unless they're going to be in skirts.

As of right now I have no underwear for them though because I feel like it's an extra expense that I can't really take the hit for at the minute, plus I wonder if sometimes the underwear might just get caught in hip joints and be annoying, but I can't say for sure until I try. I'm determined to have pants for my boys at the very least though one day.

I feel the same way. Yes it's just resin, but if it resembles genitalia I just personally prefer not to look at it tbh. I don't have a need for my dolls to have genitalia, and I would personally prefer them without, but some folks enjoy it, and that's fine, I'll just keep them covered on my dolls.

 

Chiming in again, I think it does really depend on how you dress and play with dolls too. I dress mine ‘to go out’, they don’t often wear revealing clothes and I rarely take their clothes off when not at home unless we are doing something that requires a nude comparison, at a meet or maybe a con panel. At local meets, since we had gotten to know each other pretty well, requests for seeing the doll nude were common, sometimes we even unboxed at meets and dressed them for the first time there.
Since I also don’t prefer short skirts or dresses in their everyday wear, nothing is usually seen on my dolls even if I didn’t feel like putting undies on them. I do have a couple of school uniforms and some shorter poufy dresses, sometimes these skirts ride or fold up and the ‘do they wear underwear’ question does come up. Random people do flip up their skirts occasionally too. So with those garments yep, undies. Another case is the one immature 1/6 doll I have, she always wears her underpants or bloomers because her anthro legs are short and she wears dresses. She’s the doll I usually am OK to let people handle and I learned really quickly that people will just flip her over upside down to see how far up her cat feet/leg features go, (or to see how her tail attaches) just out of simple curiosity. When they realize they are up-skirting a toddler doll, it can get awkward quickly if she is commando. I want everyone’s experience with dolls to be comfy.

This is an interesting topic because when we start to travel again for Comparison Heaven and photograph nude dolls for the site, I’m wondering how many people will show up with dressed dolls wearing undies or nude dolls in a bag. I’m fine either way.
