Dollfie Dream Dynamite

Nov 6, 2008

    1. For the mid section in terms of bending forward, the DDdy actually seems to have a bigger range the DD2 since it seems to be easier to bend DDdy body forward than DD2 after certain angle. However I would say the range is at least the same. Posability wise the only thing I notice is that due to larger bust of DDdy, the arm movement is limited more since it can be blocked by the bust. Other than that, I didn't notice too much. Although I didn't really check DDdy or DD limit on all joints.

I really hope Volks has a generic release of DDdy though. Right now I have to be extra careful as there are no replacement parts for the DDdy.

    2. I wouldn't be surprised if the Dynamite body is released as an option body, Volks seems to be more parts-oriented with the Dollfie Dream line than the Super Dollfie line and they've already put the otherwise-limited Mini Dollfie Dream body up for sale as an option body (and even sell optional busts and hands for them).

    3. I strongly believe DDDy will be put out as a standard body type in the not-too-distant future. It's a BIG HIT with the Otaku crowd. And there are too many "custom" DDDy chara dolls for this not to become a standard body type.

    4. I just got my Yoko today and I have to be honest after waiting months for her I'm totally disappointed to see how terrible her hair looks. I have a couple questions for any other Yoko owners. Does her wig behind the bangs look like a half bald rat's nest? Also, was the little plastic tie down they used to hold it in the box punched right through her ponytail so it wouldn't come out? After working with my Aoi and Kanu's default wigs I expected much more from Volks. I have added some photos I took of the wig to my flickr page. http://www.flickr.com/photos/37349194@N08/
I've tried combing it to conceal the bad spots but nothing seems to help since there isn't enough hair to comb over them. To me this is totally unacceptable, and I don't know if I can request a replacement from Volks or if this is just how it's supposed to look. I'm so disappointed at this point I kind of just want to get rid of her but I can't imagine anyone wanting to buy her even at the original price considering how bad she looks. Anyway if anyone knows of a way to fix it or at least make it look less like it got ran over by a car I'd really appreciate the help.

    5. If you got her from Volks (or one of their offical retailers), contact them and let them know the problem (include photos too). It's my understanding that they will replace/repair damaged parts, as long as you are the original owner. I had a friend, who discovered that there was a flaw in one of the eyes of her Yo-SD, and Volks did good on getting the problem fixed.

Oh, I hope you are wrong about this. As an owner of two DDdys (Kanu & Ryomou), I can tell you that I prefer the Type II body over the DY body, hands down. Because of their larger hips, the DDdy body are more difficult to pose, compared to their Type II sisters. Also, finding clothes to fit an LB Type II is difficult enough, trying to get clothes to fit a DDdy is close to impossible (and I can't afford to shop on Y!J very often).

Here are some "side by side" shots that chibichibiusa did, on her Flickr account...

    6. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be like that. If you've ever teased your hair that's basically what you do in order to get volume. You're supposed to brush the bangs over that part and it'll add volume. Here's the best picture I have for it. Hope that helps.

    7. I saw pictures like the one you posted, and I tried combing back the bangs but the spots where the wig cap shows through are everywhere, the way the hair is rooted to the cap it causes "stripes" all over where you can see the cap underneath. I don't think it would be a problem if it was something I could cover up but there just isn't enough bangs/hair to cover it all. My other problem is, neither Volks nor anyone else who has Yoko seems to be taking pictures of her showing the sides or top of her head so I have nothing to compare mine to. I e-mailed Volks to see if it really is a problem but I'm not hopeful they'll respond.

Maybe I can just wash out the hair gel or whatever they used to style the bangs and then comb them all back to hide the bad spots?

    8. Actually that side by side especially the forward bending is a little inaccurate as far as I can see. Maybe chibichibiusa is afraid to break her DDdy, but I can push Kanu closer to her legs until her bust touches her leg. The DDdy's vinyl skin seems to be harder then DD2 but if you push just a bit harder it doesn't bend more. So in the end DDdy's limitation still remains to be her much larger bust. It's limiting the posability in front because the large bust is hitting the arms and if you bent her forward her large bust it stopping the legs. Yes if you pose her leg all the way back ward it seems to be able to bend less due to the larger hip, but I don't see that larger hip to be too much of a problem other than for clothing fit.

    9. I probably wouldn't do that. If you are having that much trouble with it contact volks. They will be glad to help!:)

    10. On the plus side, if they release the body as a standard option, maybe they'll make more outfits for it! :D

    11. Yes, I wouldn't mind seeing the DDdy as a "standard", like Yukino and Aoi, but I would not want to see the DDdy as the replacement for the Type II body type.

With owning all three types of Dollfie Dream bodies, (Type I, Type II, and DDdy), I find the Type II's to be the easiest to pose and the more flexible too. If you look at the DD photos on my web site, my girls are normally "free standing". I can get Kanu and Ryomou to stand on their own, but it's more difficult that even my large busted Type IIs.

      Again, JM2¢.

    12. It's true that Yoko's wig between the bangs and the ponytail does look a bit messy, Toolbox. It's the result of the heat treatment they did to the bottom hair to add the volume needed for the gravity defying ponytail - just like you'd tease your own hair to create volume.

Your Yoko's wig isn't damaged unless your particular specimen has met with some accident in the manufacturing process, and looking at your pictures it looks perfectly normal.

Excuse me, but do I understand you correctly - you think that because you are unhappy with the wig the whole doll is ruined...?

    13. I put in for Sasara!! Crossing my fingers . . . she's going to be very different from any of my other dolls, but I'm kind of envisioning her as more of a stand-alone anime-style figure rather than one of my resin BJD crew.

I do wish they had more option heads -- I adore Yoko's expression, but I got interested too late to nab her. (Sasara is gorgeous, but I kind of like the idea of a more feisty head on this super-curvy body!)

    14. I'll be honest, when I wrote that post I overreacted and I did just want to be rid of her. I was extremely disappointed based on my own expectations of the owner photos I've seen. Now that I have calmed down I realize that maybe I can fix the bare spots if Volks won't replace it, or just get her another wig. I e-mailed Volks and they said they'd review my photos and get back to me sometime after the current dolpa is over. I also asked on the Dollfie Dream Flickr group if anyone could post their own pictures and one very kind user named ultima-i did. I asked for permission to post a link here and they said it was okay. Comparing this photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ultima-i/3846989390/in/set-72157621989448077/ to mine: http://www.flickr.com/photos/37349194@N08/3844302614/ it seems to me that mine has bare spots I don't see in other owner photos. I'm not trying to be that jerk who expects perfection, I was just disappointed with the quality and I'm hoping that Volks will agree with me. Thanks for looking at my photos and I appreciate everyone's input but I don't think I should post any more about it here, and I shouldn't have in the first place. I'm think my personal problem with this wig is probably off topic.

    15. I put in for Sasara~!! ^o^ Hopefully gonna be my first DDdy~!!!

    16. Toolbox, I'm glad you have calmed down, I hope you feel happier with your poor girl! I also hope Volks will offer you the help you are looking for.

However, I must say that I think your Yoko wig looks much less bald than my husband's Yoko wig, and the other wig you linked to looks even better.
My analysis is that Yoko wigs end up looking a variation of bald and messy in the region between the bangs and the ponytail as a result of the manufacturing process.

But I might be very wrong, and if Volks agrees with you, please tell me - because then we are definitely getting our Yoko wig exchanged too...! ;)

    17. Finally! Volks is making Dollfie Dream Dynamite base body available to purchase, as well as different optional chest part for the DDdy. They will be released at Dollfie Dream Gathering 2009 on Oct 25 in Japan. I'm sure I'd filter down to Volks USA soon enough. Now it'd be nice if they will release the DDdy body in dark skin too so I can have a backup for my Kanu.

    18. Oh wow...a whole dollpa for Dollfie Dream!!! Dang, and me without a ticket to Tokyo! Wanna go wanna go wanna go!!!:...(

Now they need to make a Dollfie Dream boy. I love my Zetto, and I know that since Dollfie Dream has such a huge Otaku following in Japan they are probably going to keep it girls only. But I would seriously love to give Zetto a body transplant if they ever do a Dollfie Dream male. White skin DDs are so lovely...what a guy Volks could make if they set one of those awesome sculptors to the task!

More diversity in Dollfie Dream would be awesome too...vinyl can be any color you want it to be. However, that would probably open a whole can of worms about making all the option hands colors to match the other shades.

    19. *DIES*

DDDy a standard body already?! I thought I'd have to wait at least another 6 months! And the new option head is PERFECT for a character I have in mind! :fangirl:

An online yen converter tells me they will be about $265. I wonder when VolksUSA will start carrying them.

I have a question for you DDDy owners- can the DDDy use the DDII option hands?
