Dollmaster movie

Aug 23, 2004

    1. just got my hands on the movie yesterday..i know.. i'm slooooooow u are not alone milodrums..i cried too
it's not scary to me.. i can think of many even scarier endings for this.. haha (like how in the end mina's owner got possessed or sth.. and somehow mina got repaired.. so her owner ends up crazed and always carrying mina around.. wahahhah)
      hate the ending!
mina shouldn't be gone! the owner should die.. hmph..

    2. Hi Faerie!

I saw "Dollmaster" for the first time a couple weeks ago, and I cried my eyes out. :) Poor Mina!

I've been showing it to everyone I know, and they've all really enjoyed it. It's an awesome movie! Even if Mina's owner was pretty useless all in all. :)

Glad you liked it, even if it wasn't that scary!

    3. hi! reviving an old thread. ^^ Just got finished watching dollmaster, and i love it! not as scary as i thought though, but loved seeing all the pretty BJD's though! I wonder if miramax remakes dollmaster, and they do use BJD's, what will they do when their finished? does a company loan them out? yeah, weird, i know. but, i'm thinking they will use porcelain dolls, since those things, well creep me out to no end, i WILL be scared seeing that! lol.

    4. I sooo don`t get it ... why do a remake of a perfectly great movie!??? Why!? I loved that movie so much and basically it got me interested in BJDs, because I had never seen such beautiful dolls before, I was so fascinated by them!

    5. *sigh* And yes, Battle Royale was remade. Only with prisoners fighting for escape from death, or whatever ... >.> They totally killed the original flavor of teens fighting for survival. ;__; The Condemned: http://imdb.com/title/tt0443473/

    6. That they remade Psycho indicates that anyone will remake ANYTHING, no matter how perfect it is to itself.

In this case, I would imagine the thought is to bring it to American audiences.

It's a shame though. I don't mean to sound cynical, but they're bound to screw it up. It wouldn't be the same with porcelain dolls, because a little girl in this country wouldn't have a porcelain doll that she played with like the little girl in the movie played with Mina. She wouldn't have a BJD either. She would have a freakin BARBIE. So it's pretty much doomed from the start.

Not to mention, the doll in "The Dollmaster" didn't kill for the reasons most horror dolls in movies in the US do (which seems to mostly be possession). She killed for love. She killed because someone loved her enough to make her real and she loved him too.

The original movie is FANTASTIC. I cried my eyes out and didn't find it particularly scary (the dolls in my house are mine, and they know I love them, right? :) ).

As someone already mentioned, a lot of movies end up getting some funding, even getting cast, and then put on the shelf anyway. I hope it happens with this remake, because I just don't see how it could possibly be good.

    7. The Condemned isn't the Battle Royale remake....the actual remake is supposed to be out in 2008, but New Line hasn't finished securing the rights yet. People just like to call The Condemned a Battle Royale rip off :)

I really liked Dollmaster...I don't think they will switch to porcelain dolls, since BJDs really are picking up in America. I mean ventriloquist dummies aren't popular but Dead Silence was made :) I guess we can only hope. :sweat

    8. Totally OT on the discussion here and jumping in on this thread, but does anyone have any nice pics of CH's St. Mina? :sweat

I'm really iffy about the plans to remake the Doll Master, also does anyone know if its actually in progress or when the release date will be? :vein

    9. Pulse is a remake too...

    10. Just watched it at a doll meet. It was a better movie than I thought it would be, and I liked the story angle...but...SPOILER alert:

Anyone who dumps their doll out their window deserves what's comin to em. :D

    11. US is remaking Doll Master?? O.O
what's the title of the remake movie??

    12. lol laura! heck yeah! :)

    13. Yes exactly! I want those dolls now! I'd love them!

    14. If they use CH dolls for the remakem being BJD's and being that all american films go international and there like always a big following, chances are a lot of people will see it, and so what if someone sees you with your doll and think you got one just because its off the movie,I dont know but thatd just piss me off....

      Isnt it called Inhyeongsa aswell?
Ah the website doesn't work its so old :P

    15. Me...;)

    16. I've yet to see the original Doll Master, but I hope when they do remake it that they use BJDs. I love seeing more obscure hobbys and cultures in movies. For example I found the Japanese parts of Babel fascinating, the only thing I found dissapointing was that it was SO sexual. Not to mention, if a big part of the movie emphasises the dolls having souls, then what better dolls to use than BJDs?

OT: Miramax is remaking the His Dark Materials trilogy?! That's probably my favourite series EVER. I hope they don't mess it up by taking the whole contraversial religious issues out. T_T

    17. I've heard the news about the US remaking Dollmaster a few months back... But I haven't heard anything since. o__o ; I think it's going under major editing...

Did anyone hear anything about a release date or something like that yet?

I'm kind of afraid to see what dolls they use... American Girl... Porcelain... It wouldn't really be the same... I hope they stick to the original CH dolls though.

    18. yeah, I don't think they'd stick with BJDs. They'll probably just make some dolls of their own so they don't have to deal with paying royalties or some doll company or another not wanting their little dollies associated with horror.

    19. I know how that feels T___T
I almost cried at the last bit... For both times I watch it.

American horror tend to be more.. shock factor based. I tend to be laughing though american horror movies ^^"""
thats why alot of people start to hate watching horror with me.. I kind of destroy all the horror factor for them when I start laughing...

The korean/japanese ones on the other hand tend to make me feel really sad. There is generally more "reasons" behind the ghost/villian/etc's actions than that in most american movies. I guess it might be the character development that made me prefer them over the american counterparts.

If the remake features CH dolls, I would bring both my CH boys(I'm pretty sure my 2nd would be here by that time) to the movies just to creep people out. If they are using non bjd I might not be interested to watch it at all anymore though..

It might sound kind of silly, I was pretty thrilled when my friend told me she saw cian in the glass case of the original Dollmaster. He's just a background character but...but...

Well, I guess the fad will pass after a couple of months. Those people who got the dolls(whatever type they use) only due to the craze would be out the the scene sooner than we think so I'm not really concerned with an influx of fangirls if this movie is ever released.
