Dollmore Banji! discussion part 2

Jan 3, 2006

1. [IMG]

This is teh Edward Scissorhands face-up, but I got him second hand, so I have no idea how much it cost. It is very cute, though! ^_^

And you will defintely need to find a way to attatch the wig- I use a tiny snap fastener, glued to the head-cap. Without it, his hair just used to flop off the whole time.

2. Here's my Jet and Fukurou's boy at a meetup. They're a lovely, coffe-with-cream tan color. No color change whatsoever.

Those were the only Tan Banji versions I know of.

3. Can banji's wear blythe clothes? On dollmore.com alot of the banji shoes say that they also fit blythes.

Their bodies seem about the same size and everything, does anyone know for sure? It looks like the head size would be the only real difference.

Sorry if this the answer is obvious or something...

4. I don't think so. Banji is very slender and half the height of Blythe. And re shoes - Dollmore Banji shoes are usually pretty big looking on Banji.

Banji
Tall: 14.5 cm
Chest: 6.10 cm
Waist: 6.10 cm
Hips: 7.60 cm
Foot: 2.0 cm

Blythe/Licca:
Tall: 28 cm (Licca: 23cm?)
Bust: 10.5cm = 4-1/8"
Waist: 7.5cm = 2-3/4" (Licca: 7cm)
Hip: 10.5cm = 4-1/8" (Licca: 9.75cm)
Shoulder-heel height = 16.5cm = 6-5/8"
Inseam (leg length): 10.5cm = 4-1/8" (Licca: 10cm)
Torso (shoulder-waist): 3.5cm = 1-3/8" (Licca: 4cm)
Arm length, including hand: 7cm = 2-3/4"

5. Did they mean Petite Blythe? I know Petite Blythe clothes fit my Elfdoll Winky. but I am not sure what size banji is compared to her.

6. ooh that's helpful to hear, for the elfdoll tinies fitting in petite blythe clothing, i am getting a Min ;) (although she has smaller boobs)

7. The Elfdolls can wear many fo the modern Dawn clothes pieces by Checkerboard - I got som in Kay-Bee toys once. They also fit in some Bratz Babyz and Bratz Kidz stuff. Some Kelly dresses can be blouses on Eldoll and pants become capris.

Banji can fit in some mini Barbie (but you may have to remove sleeves or enlarge armholes). She can wear some Bratz Babyz but not the Kidz. Not sure if any Kelly is usable on her like on Elfdoll, but you could try.

Margarita_Rosa makes slacks and T's and maybe little dresses for both of them. Her sister Rosa makes little ultrasuede maryjanes and boots for both of them.

8. Banji (red hair, second from left) with various Elfdolls for comparison. All the "Elf Elly" dolls are Banji, they just have differences in the face sculpts (Kiwi, Eomji, etc.). Rainman is the sculptor for the Elfdolls, not Banji. I'm not sure who is the sculptor for Banji. I would agree that Narsha and Banji look to be the same sculptor, and both are made by Dollmore, so that would make sense (for example, the hands are exactly the same on both dolls, just different scale).

They're in the same scale heightwise, but as you can see, Banji has a heavier, thicker build, with much larger feet. They can share some looser clothing, but the waistline is usually an issue. They do not share shoes.

9. Elf Elly Banji is made by Dollmore. Around here we usually just call them all Banjis. I do not think Rainmain sculpted them.

They have been made for quite a while. First just 3 of them (one girl white hair, and two boys white and violet hair). Then white skin black hair Banjis were added. Then some very goth ones (Sweet Dew? no longer sold), and some tan ones (Oak? no longer sold). Then the sleeping one and the color/fruit named Banjis. Kiwi is one of the Elf Elly Banji models.

10. Er.... I think you mean the lime Banji right?
Bakayaro Onna has a little lime boy banji and looking at her pictures of him it sure looks like he has a shy little smile on his face.
Here is some links to her LJ with a couple of pictures of the little boy, he looks really cute.

Hope you dont mind Bakayaro Onna dear. ^^

P.S. If I remember correctly she asked for some slight modifications to both of their face ups aswell.

11. No - I don't have neck circumference - I had to stick with limited measurements so the spreadsheet would be easy to use and no too hard to maintain. I show the basic measurements that almost every dollmaker measures the same way and lists with the doll.

Looks to me like Elfdoll and Banji's necks look like they are far from the same size - see the first two dolls here. I am headed to work do I can't attempt to measure that for you, and not sure if I can with my measuring tape - would be hard!

12. the peach banji (girl) is definitely the smiling kind. :)

13. Hey Carolyn. Are there any more working pics of Banji's newer and older legs? I've been scouring the forum but all the ones I find are not comparison photos, OR they are no longer working. I got my banji finally, but I can't tell if they are older or newer knees as they are pipecleanered.

14. I can explain how to tell. First of all, if you got your Banji from Dollmore new, then they are the new knees. And you didn't say what model you have. Only the original 3 banjis (white hair ns girl, short white hair ns boy, short violet hair ns boy) were sold with the old legs when Banjo was first released. Also a small number of the standard (not special section) black hair white skin girls and similar boy may have been shipped with old legs. All of the newer ones (the fruit/wine names and the specials) should have come with the newer legs always.

The way you can tell the difference is to pull the lower leg (calf) away from the upper leg (thigh) at the knee joint. Now examine top edge of the lower leg (calf). You'll see the edge is slightly inset to fit into the thigh. As you look at the edge near the back of the calf you should see the upper edge slant upward to form a small spike or rise. That is the new leg.

The old leg has even less of an inset edge, and does not form a small spike - it is even all the way around except for maybe a slot in the back.

The newer legs are not great legs. But the old legs were very bad and would often kick forward (knee bent 90 degrees forward) and had no stability al all - zero.

Many people pipecleaner their Banji's newer legs to improve them more (white pipecleaners like the ones really used for cleaning pipes). If you live in a humid area or the doll might get wet, maybe use a light color insulated thin solid wire instead. I still haven't wired or pipecleanered any of my doll, but I think gerneally you want wire strong enough to combat unwanted bending but soft enough to allow bending with light pressure. I think people usually cut a piece long enough to go through maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of the leg, then stick it in the elastic channel along with the elastic so it passes through the knee and stabilizes the joint.

Regarding a photo, I only remember someone posting a photo of the new leg once. I have not stumbled across the photo in a long time.

15. I found my Banji had kicky EVERYTHING
his torso drives me NUTS

but he is my Bearen ...and I dont think I could part with him ...tiny boys like him asre so hard to come by !

So last week ...armed with my Glue Gun !
I "hot glue gun" sueded him
around his torso
and his knees .....I wish I had done it years ago

I figure silicone glue would do it too ..but for that you would have to take him apart

but he is a different doll ...I fell in love all over again
...must try it on my Elf tinys too , see if it fixs their crazy legs

16. I went through the old dollhouse thread! While 1/12 scale furniture is gooorgeous and detailed, most of the dollhouses make my banji look a biiiit big.

Anyways. So recently I've been doing a ton of work on my banji. And well she needs a home. She's been moving around quite a bit, over the years of my childhood I've accumulated a LOT of doll stuff so I was testing to see which ones fit!

FITS (PERFECTLY)

Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame Gypsy Caravan. I have noooo idea where to find this, but holy cuteness. It opens on the top, and one side, and has a little plastic bed that fits my banji perfectly. She's been camping out in this while I get her home ready.

Fisher Price 1/10th scale dollhouse!!!

I got this at a garage sale years ago, and it's a PERFECT fit for her. It's friggin enormous, but folds up pretty flat and can be movable. It's comprised of three floors, a ground floor (living room and kitchen, fully equipped with fridge, sink, and stove) and there are little stairs leading to the second floor which is the main bedroom. The stairs have a tiny closet underneath them! The second floor has a balcony, and a little railing to go with it. The third floor is like an attack, and has enough room for two more bedrooms *a small one and a smaller one* and a bathroom!

The entire thing is pretty well made. All plastic, the floors have wood grain and the walls have panels and the roof has little molded shingles. There's even a friggin mailbox.

The catch? It's painted in uuuugly shades of pastel pink and blue. ECH. No worries, I just spray primed it yesterday and it's my personal project right now <3

And lastly, IKEA furniture! The dollhouse stuff anyways. I have a stove from there and it's scaled very nicely to banji! :D I don't have a dollhouse set unfortunately, so I can't tell you about that, but their furniture is quite nice if you want more modern looking stuff.

I apologize for doing this and not posting photos. My camera is recharging and by tonight I should have photos of the fisher price mansion :P

Snofink (my banji) can't wait to move out of that crappy little caravan and into the niiiiice big second floor of this house. She's super spoiled too. She's got a handmade dollquilt, a wardrobe, all this furniture and clothing. She needs some extra spending money though, so she's considering renting out the third floor to Seda, my elfdoll Adel still in transit, and Lundi, my naripon I'm still paying for, once they both get here. :D

I can't say how well it will photograph because it's two floors. I might have to rig up some lights in the lower level of the fisher price dollhouse. I just love it because it's enormous, but still collapsable. I have very little room in my apartment for dollhouses, considering my blythes are living out of an old retro barbie foldout case, and my sylvanian families are living like little fuzzy refugees in a cardboard box since their old house got thrown out in the big move of 05. ;_; My poor doooolls.

Pics tonight! :D Can't wait for other dolls to get here. Tinies seem to spread like a DISEASE. I'm cut off for quite a while after elfdoll adel, but my next goal is some more banjis, elfdoll catsy, and mebbe a dobigi alice??? <3. I was always obsessed with dollhouse miniatures as a child, this is like, my ultimate fantabulous wildest dreams coming true.

It sounds so nerdy, but I'm really happy right now. I have a crappy old cheap dollhouse, and some super expensive girls to live in it. :3

17. So...I've been going nuts trying to find things that fit my elfdoll Adel. She is so slender :) Utterly gorgeous and so pose able, but clothing for her is usually too big! I've found some things that fit her alright, that were not mentioned previously.

ELFDOLL TINIES
- Bratz TINIES BOYS clothes (tops only) The jackets fit really well. I have two of the bratz prom tiny boys and their dress shirts and tux jackets have been stolen by adel, along with the ties, and waistcoats :3

- SOME sylvanian family clothes. They make adorable shirts (child size) and cute shorter dresses (if you steal clothes from adults)

- Petite Blythe clothing (hit or miss) The jumper from love to dress: date set fits elfdolls adorably, as do some of their other dresses. I'm currently trying to get my hands on a few more to buy, the biggest problem is usually hands fitting through the tiny armholes.

- Disney's little mermaid tiny doll Ariel. Okay, back in the 90's disney made this ariel toy that was literally around 4 inches tall, and she came with a tiny dress that was usually a bit loose on her. For some reason, it fits my elfdoll ridiculously well, and while I hate the colour, I might try dying it.I

Unsure: Does anyone have mini pullip, ddung, dollcena, and mamemomoko clothes that they can photograph on an elfdoll, or let me know if they are too big or too small? I can't tell from pictures alone

And randomly, other things that fit banji:

- Madame Alexander Mcdonalds toys clothes. These are pretty much PERFECT and just super cute, especially the fairytale ones.

I'm still trying to find really nice boots for elfdoll's slim feet! I'm aware of rosa's shoes, I might have to go to her eventually :)

My camera is recharging at the moment but I'll see if I can post some pics tomorrer.

18. Mini Pullip and Dollcena are too small. They won't fit around (which sucks, because the little "bo peep" outfit I got would have rocked).

Bratz Kids outfits fit really really well. Some Bratz Babiez items fit the Monnaemi sisters, but are a tad revealing on the Elf girls.

Fitting Banji: Topper repro Dawn clothing fits well.

19. Another shoe source - Anna Lu. I have to look up her name on DoA/Ebay but her boots for Banji are really nice.

20. Thanks for this info... I like the Bratz Kidz stuff, but was getting bored with KELLY clothing for my ReRe and Adel!! LOL!
Would love to see pics of these outfit, tops, shoes, etc. soon.
