Dollmore Judith Girls discussion part 1

Dec 31, 2010

1. Lol, they do that. I ordered 2 Judiths in one order one time and they shipped them separate.

2. I guess Dollmore doesn't want to invest in double-depth boxes. My Pirouette Zinna arrived today. Her box was slightly crushed because they didn't stuff the empty space between the doll box and the outer carton. I had extra clothing, flat feet, and promotional gifts in addition to the doll box, but they basically fell into the narrow spaces on either side of the box. Could have used some wadded up newspaper to bulk up the outer carton. Thankfully nothing broke.

Her resin is lovely, close to Iplehouse's normal skin but a little pinker and whiter. I'm surprised at how small her eyes are in person. Somehow they look huge in Dollmore's photos. Her wig has me flummoxed. No matter how I twist and turn the braids to make the side buns, I can't seem to tuck in the loose ends or hide the black rubber bands. It looks like I'll have to resort to something crafty--tomorrow when I can see what I'm doing. In the meantime she is wearing a LeekeWorld wig. It's not a style a ballerina would wear, but beggars can't be choosers.

Judging by the amount of time it took for her to get here, I'm not expecting Bitter Biscuit Zinna before Saturday. I'll post a double box opening to my blog on Sunday (link is below my signature). Meanwhile, here is a photo:

I have 3 names picked out for my 3 incoming girls, but can't decide who's who. One will be Oksana, one will be Raissa and one will be Alida. Eeny-meeny-miny-moe.

3. Eep, usually they put bubble wrap between the boxes. Might want to let them know!

She's really pretty. I always have a hard time with their wigs, they style them so much for the pictures. D:

I think she's a Raissa or Alida. I kind of like Raissa more.

4. I should wait until Bitter Biscuit gets here (hopefully tomorrow!) but for now I'm thinking Oksana for Bitter Biscuit, Raissa for Pirouette, and Alida for Suntan Maxima.

There was bubble wrap, but it wasn't taped around the box the way some companies do it. Looks like it shifted during shipping. Maybe it depends on who does the packing. I'll see how Bitter Biscuit is packed when she gets here before I say anything to Dollmore. The doll itself was extremely well wrapped and taped inside her box.

It doesn't show too much in my photo, but Raissa's eye makeup has a lot of yellow under the eyes. With the green eyeshadow it looks like she's recovering from a couple of shiners! We'll be trying on other wigs and outfits today, as well as shoes (for the extra flat feet I got her).

5. Bitter Biscuit Zinna is here! Much better packaging this time, or maybe it's because the freebies took up so much room in the box. There was a doll carrier, MSD size jeans and a faux sheepskin winter jacket with matching mittens--so cute!--in addition to the postcards and wooden doll keychains. My first two orders were only a week apart but fell in different months, so the gifts were different. Wonder what they'll send next time?

I am so impressed with this doll! Her faceup is gorgeous; she really puts Pirouette Zinna to shame. I think I will eventually have to tweak Raissa's (Pirouette's) makeup a bit. I photographed Oksana (Bitter Biscuit) wearing her default wig, but afterwards I changed it to the Green Fairy wig from LeekeWorld. I like it with her outfit. She is a bit difficult to pose in the default outfit. It's funny, the skirt looks so full, but there's not much room to get my hands under it to pose her legs. I think these girls will end up taking over my American Girl sofa. It's easier than fighting with doll stands.

Meet Oksana:

6. vermont chick, she's gorgeous - and I love that wig (I'm a sucker for platinum or white hair). And as for Zinna's default faceup, I agree. I'll probably have to send my girl out for a new faceup because she also has that slightly sickly greenish-yellow look around her eyes.

7. Lol, yeah, it's a bubble skirt, so it's smaller around the ankles.
Very pretty though. :D

I still have to get all my girls out for a group photo.
I want the Maxima Silver, but I has no monies. D:

8. Thanks! I really love the Bitter Biscuit makeup and wig. That's the mermaid wig, by the way. I was afraid it would look too long but it works fine. My only problem with it is the flyaways. They look like scratches on the photo.

Usually when I want to tweak a faceup, I very carefully remove what I don't like and then redo it. The problem is I usually end up removing more than I wanted and lose parts I really liked, plus the edges of the fix tend to stick out like a sore thumb. This time I'm considering covering the unwanted color with a paler shade of pastel powder. It's easy to blend and also to remove if I overdid it. Right now the Pirouette Zinna looks like a zombie in training with her yellow-green shadow. What were they thinking?

Thanks! Yeah, I liked the Maxima Silver, too, but ended up ordering the Black. It looks like the only difference is the wig, which Dollmore is selling separately, so you can buy one and have both. No monies is a definite downer, however. I had to sell dolls to buy my Judith girls. There are other Dollmore dolls I want to get, which means I have to find buyers for some of my other sale dolls. It's a vicious cycle!

9. Well, Raissa's makeup fix didn't work. You could still see the yellow through the paler color I put over it. So I wiped and completely repainted her. The color doesn't show up too well in photos, but I used a pale violet on the eyelids and under the brows, and silver gray in the eyelid crease. It's not a professional job by any means, because a) I don't have an airbrush and so I use pastels and watercolor pencils, and b) I don't see as well as I used to. Darned eyelashes were a pain to put on. They won't curl up even though there is a slight curl to them. Even so, I do like the faceup well enough to keep. I won't be sending her out after all.

10. I think she looks lovely @vermont chick. A nice, soft look to her now. I really do wish my girl's head had come with the teeth part. I guess that's easy to lose though! haha

11. Thanks, Kirahfaye. I have posted additional pics to the Dollmore Kid photospam page.

You know, it shouldn't be too difficult to make the teeth part from a bit of Sculpey (or other polymer clay of your choice). The teeth part that comes with the doll doesn't fit snugly into the opening--there's empty space all around it. All you have to do is make a roll of white clay to more or less fit, then bake it according to package instructions. Actually, I would bake it a little less time than the manufacturer recommends, because it's a small piece and might overbake. Even if it comes out brown, you can paint the visible part with white acrylic paint.

Alternatively, you could use an air-dry clay. I find that a little harder to work with because it doesn't seem to get as smooth. Only a little bit will show so perfect smoothness probably doesn't matter. I bought a ceramic clay once, but I waited so long to use it that it turned rock hard in the container. That'll teach me!

12. OMG-OMG-OMG! Suntan Maxima Zinna has shipped! It was 30 calendar days, not business days. Thank you Dollmore! I will be able to bring all 3 girls to my doll meet-up next Saturday. :dance

One of my buyers paid off her layaway last week. I was saving up for a big doll and then I reminded myself, the whole point of selling off my big dolls is to Stop. Collecting. Big. Dolls. So I bought the last remaining Minuet Eve Tara instead. Somebody stop me. I'm out of control!

13. Dollmore e-mailed me this morning to say that someone else bought the last Minuet Eve Tara the day before I ordered her. That's weird, because she wasn't marked sold out until after I hit the buy button, so I thought I got her. Anyway, Dollmore asked me to choose a different Judith so I picked Arasa Blue Zinna. I don't know how I'm going to find space for both her and her humongous costume--maybe I should have chosen a doll with less clothing.

Maxima Suntan Zinna (Black) arrived today. I didn't dress her in the full-set because I won't be keeping it. She is a nice deep tan color; her eye makeup is very, very dark. It works in photo close-ups, but from a distance you don't see eyes, just black holes. The photo below came out quite a bit lighter than I intended but at least you can see her features.

We spent the afternoon trying on wigs and clothes. The dress she had on for her photo-shoot kept slipping and revealing her nips, so I'll have to find something else for her to wear. Luckily I also ordered the celestial robe in purple, along with a pair of white high heels, so that will have to do for the time being. She needs something for Saturday's doll meet-up. I may have to start sewing.

Here she is:

14. Time to resurrect this thread from oblivion. My Judith Arasa Blue Zinna has shipped! That's a little under 4 weeks. At least I assume it's Arasa Blue. After asking me to pick a different doll from the Minuet Eve Tara, Dollmore never changed my order entry to show the change of doll. My status still shows Minuet Eve. I'll be happy whichever doll shows up.

15. vermont chick, I was going to do some resurrecting of my own - haha! I finally got around to making a few homemade teeth parts this morning and one of them works pretty well. I like her better with the teeth. Now she no longer looks like she's competing with a particular Unoa doll for most embarassing open mouth sculpt..... :o ::snort::

16. Cool! I can't wait to see photos. Did you use polymer clay?

I don't think any doll can compete with Unoa for most embarrassing open mouth sculpt. :XD:

17. Here she is! My Russian princess, Arasa Blue Zinna.:love Not sure yet what I'll call her. Right now it's between Sonia and Zora.

The costume is gorgeous, but I wish Dollmore had constructed the sleeves with cuffs that snap open and shut. I had to take out a seam to get her hand through one sleeve. I'm lucky I didn't break her fingers. The other hand went through with a struggle. The fabrics are wonderful. The blue overdress has a pink shimmer depending on how the light hits it. You can see a bit of it on the right side. She takes up a huge amount of space on my doll shelf.

The little mirror she's holding was one of the gifts in my "happy shopping" bag. They sent lots of goodies this time.:)

18. She's pretty.
Call her Sonia (first) Zoran (surname).

Hmm, they usually have snaps on the sleeves. D: Weird this one doesn't. Pretty color though.

Their goodies are weird. I've had them send me a wig, two pairs of glass eyes, and socks before in one order; then two msd headbands and a bookmark in another. Never know what you are going to get.

19. The one time they really needed snaps and they didn't construct it that way. Figures. I'm going to let the seams out on both cuffs and sew snaps on myself. I just hope there is enough fabric for the overlap; if not maybe I'll just add a small piece of fabric, like a gusset.

I wouldn't mind a wig and eyes. They keep sending me MSD clothing that nobody can fit into. I suppose technically Pirouette Zinna is MSD, but the stuff they send isn't her style. This time I got 2 pairs of lensless MSD glasses, a slip, a top and skirt, the little mirror, a tiny angel on a chain, a pattern to make an MSD Lolita dress, a paper doll, sneakers (I think they're MSD, but they're really big), a Magic Eraser, a hair clip, a Pullip doll photo pin, and a very big ring (or maybe it's a bracelet for MSD). They had said they would send extra stuff in my shopping bag to make up for not sending me Minuet Eve.

20. Hmmm, I'd get some gold ribbon similar to what is on the dress, take the seam out, sew the ribbon to the new edges, and use them to tie it together. Guessing the time period of the dress it was likely really like that, or with a button/pin.

Darn. I haven't really gotten clothes yet. I've gotten the pattern before, the glasses.
