Dollmore Large Dolls Discussion Thread (all sizes) - Part 2

May 2, 2014

    1. :D So exciting!!! Congrats I'm so happy you were able to get him!
lol Filmore is the perfect name XD

    2. gosh, 12 months. that's so cool you could get him. I have two more payments to go on my Blue Epoch. they say casting begins after the second payment.
hope Fillmore will arrive long before Nov 2015. :cake:

    3. I'm still kind of holding my breath until I see the invoice from Dollmore. (Geese, I had to correct that again from Fillmore!)
I'm out of town this week, and don't like to access things like PayPal over a hotel connection, so until I get home tomorrow afternoon... I'm still worrying whether I got him or not.

Ooooo! I hope your Mr blue gets done and home quickly! I'm still itching to see him! He's so cool! Sounds like he may be in time for Valentine's. That would be sweet!

    4. So I was creeping around to find a Haneol Moon, and I was able to contact and find someone who is willing to sell theirs. I am elated at that alone, but I have some reservations. He is from 2007, I can't say I know what that means for his condition. One thing I really love about Dollmore is the texture and color of their resin. Does anyone have a Dollmore model from around that time? Is the resin smooth/shiny? >_> How bad is the yellowing?

The closest Dollmore I have to that age is my Suntan Mettaa, who is from 2009. He is pristine, feels great. He has a different texture thanks to his tan though! I believe my Victor Lou is from around 2010-11, he's pink as a peach. ^w^ So I'm hopeful! I really hope this seller took care of him!

    5. OMG that is so fantastic!!! I hope everything works out!

If you want to read my book, I can show you a lot of DM resin over the years.....

Alex (I) is from early 2008, and my Dollmore Kid U-jee's body is from 2006, my Pado is from early 2009, and the adam body I have Alex II on is from late 2009. My Ripley Days is from late 2009, my Fine is early 2010, Leibe Klum head, early 2011. Because I tend to buy Dollmore resin in the beginning and end of the year apparently. I'm leaving out all the WS because it doesn't count....

So, everything from 2006-early 2009 is exactly the same, same color, same texture, everything. Mine are very glassy-smooth, and a little shiny BUT they were all sanded so I can't tell you if that's what did it (it's what I think however). Sometime in 2009 they change resins - it's a little lighter and pinker - not a ton, but for a psycho like me, it was something I instantly noticed when I got my third Adam body which felt different to me. And smaller, but I think it's a fluke. Everything from then on was the same - and I started getting them unsanded (not unsnapped stupid freaking autocorrect) because I am cheap, which is what makes the texture different.

I can provide you with a million photos of DM NS throughout the years, but for now, I have this:

My first 2008 Kara Klum and the 2011 Liebe
      [IMG]

Obviously not the greatest photo on the planet, but you can tell they're close to the same color (and in need of new faceups). And this is my first doll...who may have been left in the sun once or twice or fifteen times because I didn't know better >.<

Same with Fine, same with Ripley Days (um, I didn't leave them in the sun, they're just not that different from Alex).....the only Dollmore resin I own that's drastically different is the one I just got - and he's brand new and has yet to de-pink at all. https://flic.kr/p/pkRNQd (but check out the WS guy from 2009! He's still bright-white!) Next to him Alex looks yellowed, but still (IMO anyway) not yellow. If that makes sense.

This is roughly what Alex looks like IRL https://flic.kr/p/ojq81s - i had to edit the jointed hands he's wearing because even though they're years newer than he is and used to match him pretty well, they yellowed more and faster and don't match at all anymore (he has his old hands again). And again, my 2009 pado, and 2006 DMK body look just like him. I actually have a much newer U-jee head than that body and he looks fine - the colors are still close enough to pass. https://flic.kr/p/nTsMsX his hands are from 2010. I mix and match all of my parts.

So the point to that novel is that I think if they took care of him, he'll be fine. Most of the people I know, myself included, love the color the resin gets after losing it's baby-pinkness. The texture will possibly depend on sanding, so he might be glass-smooth, but it's not awful, and I have mine sprayed with MSC to guard those tatts so he's not shiny at all. I have heard of at least one really bad case of Dollmore Yellowing, but it was really uneven, second-hand, so I'm guessing there was window-sitting involved or something. For the most part, eventually, all of them end up looking like Alex. Which might be a bad thing.... D:

That was a lot of info....sorry. I hope it at lest helped some. I'm hopeful for you! Ask for a lot of photos just to make sure - hopefully he'll be fine! :D

    6. Thanks for taking the time to write such an informative guide to DM resin! :kitty1 I thoroughly enjoyed your novel, hehe! That is really encouraging though, Alex is gorgeous. I would be very pleased if his color was like his. DM is my favorite company, I always knew their resin was especially awesome. To be able to mix parts years apart...you can't say that about many other companies. And ah, I was contacted some time ago by a lovely seller who would sell me Evgeneia Haneol Moon, who was white, but I still wouldn't even be done with that layaway today most likely. Very pricey, understandably. It's amazing one of his 10 sellers would have contacted me at all, so I certainly don't blame them.

Thanks for rooting for me, I am so, so hopeful I can bring him home. Tears will be had!

    7. Ha I'm happy it helped some! Good luck, I'm excited for you!!
I might be biased since DM is my favorite company as well (huge surprise, I know), but I really love the resin. Even after it changed it's still beautiful.
Wow...those LE's can get up there in price. I do love their WS though. It's so gorgeous.

    8. Well, it ends up it's only eight month's max for mr Chocolate tatts, but I'll take it! ^_^ First payment away! :dance

Congratulations, Genevieve!!! That's such great news! I hope he's in terrific shape. So glad you found him!

    9. Thanks so much. ;w; It will be unreal to have him at last. Maybe me not being able to get him easily or as planned is going to make him even more special. Still waiting for pictures, I can't wait!

    10. This thread is moving along so fast, I'm a bit late, but thank you so much petitballerine and aernath for your kind words about my boy Dan, it's not like he didn't have anything to wear but Dollmore did a very nice job with the blushing and seam sanding, it's a shame to hide this body under clothes.
I am really, really glad he came with sanded seams, I am in the process of sanding an SD boy of mine and it's taking hours and hours (rough seams), don't want to imagine how long I'd sit for glamor model size.

    11. The Haneol Moon looks pretty good from what I can see from the 2 pics taken for me *V* He's on the thicker body though, I really want the thin one for him. Is there that much of a difference? Does anyone have a side-by-side by chance? o u o

    12. It's been years, but I recall it wasn't much of a difference. Maybe 1cm around the waist?
Here it is! ^___^ I knew they had a comparison somewhere. Scroll down, and they show photos of the two bodies side by side.
The waist is only 0.2cm difference, the hips only 1cm difference.
I hope he works out for you!
      http://www.dollmore.net/shop/step1.php?number=2579&b_code=B20060303110204

Eolomea - Hey, naked is great! :wiggle Especially when they're handsome like that!

    13. I don't know anything about the Model guys, that's the size I never owned (a friend had one for a while, but I barely handled him). With the shoulder to waist ratio, I wonder if it's much difference at all when you don't have both side by side to compare....

So I asked this in the Adam/Eve thread, but I figure it can't hurt here either - Does anyone have a Dollmore Eve (or Adam I guess - they're all about the same size) they can try on a 65ish cm girl body?? Even 63 would be good. My Biwol head came in yesterday and has officially replaced Fine as Isis - Fine is going to give Gabriel a try, but needs to be way taller. Her neck looks like it would fit the Adam body easily, it was always too big for the Eve, so I think it could work, but I don't have any larger girl bodies.

    14. I am curious, has anyone ever given their DM a oxiclean bath? I've heard iffy things, but it's nothing with good proof as with most of the questionable debates in this hobby on resin-safe things. XD I have heard it makes resin white and brittle.

    15. I've never given any of my dolls an oxiclean bath tbh. I did some research on it a while back out of curiosity (I actually don't care much about yellowing, so it's not really something I worry about) and did see somewhere that it can actually make things worse. It does seem to stop or reverse yellowing at first, but I swear I saw that it could make it worse later.

I don't remember seeing anything about turning things brittle though. Which is way more terrifying.

The most de-yellowing I've done is on an old B&G WS body I got new in 2008. B&G WS is yellow new, and only gets worse. It's also really shiny which I'm not a fan of, so when I got a WS\BG Chiwoo head to put on the body, I gave it a light sanding all over which did wonders for it. It became peachy instead of banana, and no more shine.

    16. Yeah I feel the same way, I don't really want him to have an Oxiclean bath u3u The seller is wanting to give him one so the uneven yellowing won't be such a problem...but for me I would rather not have another unknown factor for his condition. The seller is very honest about his condition thank goodness, she thinks that Dollmore might've "frankendollied" him with parts of varying age they had laying around. No bueno. ovo;;; His state is not ideal, but...I want that head. Maybe I could fix up the body in other ways. So idk how it's going so far. We still haven't quite reached an agreement...? I am hoping for an answer soon! ^3^

    17. Genevieve, I don't know about this particular doll, but I own an unevenly yellowed Zaoll Luv and as far as I am concerned, she is absolutely lovely! Her face is very yellow but different parts of her body have different degrees of yellowing. The seller was very concerned that this might bug me, but it doesn't at all. Personally I wouldn't try to touch her up. Uneven yellowing or not, she's still a lovely doll. If you aren't too bothered about yellowing, I'd say leave the dollie alone. Dollmore dolls have plenty of character to make up for any age-related issues (if you can call them issues) :D!

    18. Had sent off Kana's head to be repainted by the talented Arrowchild, and she just came back today. She's so pretty!

    19. Sigune: I am glad to hear that your Zaoll's yellowing doesn't bother you. :D I actually would prefer him yellowed over being oxiclean bathed. That's what I'm saying to the seller. Though i would want to try and even out the color with blushing, it's uneven. ^_^;; that, I think, would bother me more than general yellowing. Idk, I feel so torn and neurotic. XD Sometimes I feel like I should just hold out and look for a newer one but on the other hand... o_O Haneol! I know that if I end up buying this one then I'll of course adore him anyways, imperfections and all, but while he's not mine, I am more critical. XD

Stormlight: she's lovely! I would be so scared to mail off that big head with those long elf ears! Glad she made it home safely.

    20. Stormlight: She's so cute! And I love her eyes. ^_^

So. According to the email I got today, Dollmore's event for next month is 20% off of Mio. She's cute, but not in my plans at all, lol! So assuming I can make it to the bank in time tomorrow (or later today, since it's after midnight...), it looks like I just might be ordering my Kara Klum within the next 24 hours, to get the 7% off. *squee*

It's so abrupt. o.0 I'm excited, obviously, but nervous too. xD And the fact that he's going to be my most expensive doll doesn't help.... (pre-purchase buyer's remorse, anyone? *_* :sweat) I need to browse some owner pics, lol...that will help. =P
