Dollmore Large Dolls Discussion Thread (all sizes) - Part 2

May 2, 2014

    1. SapphireStargazer: Oh yes, it's especially menacing with those big heavy noggins the glamour models have. They have very slippery chest joints that I can only assume most dollmores share. X3 Sueding has helped a lot, but I'm really excited to see what new string can do for them. I think I saw this somewhere, but do you have a shop you recommend? Was the shop called Cool Cat? That's what I seem to remember seeing somewhere. >3<
6mm actually sounds pretty believable, I think those guys need it with how heavy they are. I wonder if their arms require thinner elastic as well?I think they're pretty thick but the wrist area has me concerned.

Also, congrats on the jointed hands! They're lots of fun~ I don't know if we can all handle the amplification of expressiveness with Noe. The dramatics may be overwhelming!

Grouchy Gnome: *ALSO FANGIRLS AT 3-EYED VIC* :D I also didn't know you got him after all! I remember you mentioning him around the time I just got my Victor Lou. Late congrats~ Restringing really is heck on the hands sometimes though, arthritis must make it so much worse. ):
As for what I'm going to use, I'm going to follow Sapphire's advice and get some 6mm elastic. I usually just use a ribbon for pulling the string through the channels and forceps! I have to say that stringing my Mettaa was one of the hardest dolls to string that I have. I'm not exactly looking forward to it, especially if I have to tug harder for this string.

    2. SapphireStargazer ~ Do it do it do it do it!! He'll look great blushed!! I am a huge fan of blushing...It's hard to maintain, but worth it IMO. I won't even photograph my dolls shirtless without blushing them (I used to always blush Alex at Christmas because I knew he'd be shirtless XDD), and a light blushing looks so good on Dollmore boys. And girls -- my best blushings ever were on my DM Eve and Zaoll hybrid. And yay for jointed hands!! I hope they work out!

Grouchy Gnome ~ *joins in on the fangirling* I hope he gets back together soon, I SO LOVE VICTOR 3-EYES!!!

Genevieve ~ I'm an advocate of the thickest string you can possibly shove in a doll lol so 6mm would probably be fine. Dollmore (at least all of mine) have decently drilled channels, so it shouldn't be too hard to get it in there. I have to say I've never restrung my Ripley Days. He's like a model, all high-maintanace and cray when I'm messing with him, and then right to business when it's time to pose. He will fall into poses and hold them perfectly....and I'm eternally grateful for that because I'm always posing him with dolls that can't even stand on their own >.<

As for the resin hooks.....*knocks on ALL THE WOOD* I've had Dollmore dolls since 2008 and (other than Ripely Days lol) I've restrung all of them, most of them several times, and no one has been broken. And if the worst does happen, they sell hands (and feet for a lot of them I think), so they can be replaced. My Kara Klums especially have been played with. They're handled like crazy, and the only casualty i've had was an odd crack in a wrist ball. Which I replaced, then bought jointed hands and he never wore the new one anyway XDDD

Just try not to put unnecessary stress on them and they'll be fine :)

    3. Genevieve, I've never actually heard of Cool Cat...is it an online store or something? Sometimes I can buy New England Ropes shock cord in the sizes I want at a marine supplies store locally in my town but, failing that, I'll buy it online from a marine supplies store somewhere else. If you search eBay for "New England Ropes shock cord" you should be able to find any number of retailers selling it by the meter. Mauri Pro Sailing has an online store, and they have it. So does Milwaukee Rigging LLC (and I think they also have an eBay shop). West Marine also has marine grade shock cord, but they carry their own brand as well as Schaeffer, which are both also good.
For the arms of your' big boys, I'd go with 5mm. You can get away with a smaller size in the arms most of the time anyway because they're not weight-bearing, and I wouldn't personally want to force a size of cord that is too big into those wrist 'hook' parts.

Thanks for the congrats on the hands! I'm super excited for them to get here. haha...just what I need; Noé being able to express himself more. ;)

VampireAngel13 - lol I keep wanting to blush all my boys, but I'm a procrastinator and I'm not good at that sort of thing anyway. I'm sure Noé would love to be blushed as he's often shirtless. lol he's always throwing himself in front of the camera half-dressed. :XD:

    4. SapphireStargazer: Yeah it's an accessory store for BJDs and other types of dolls. They have an impressive array of elastic sizes and I know I've heard that they are good from somewhere...They have 6mm and 5mm so I may give them a try. I'll look on ebay for some shock cord too, that sounds pretty useful. Thanks for the tips!

VampireAngel13: I'm convinced of this now *V* I know these guys have more posing potential than they're giving me right now. It seems they're too heavy for the elastic they have right now. My Mettaa can hardly hold up his arms. Victor Lou is slightly better but not by much, but I got him strung by Dollmore. Thank goodness for that, those resin hooks make me more than nervous. I know Victor Lou's hands and feet can be replaced, but not Mettaa's. :< I don't know if they'd do me the favor of casting extra glamour model hands in the LE Suntan resin. From what I've heard and experienced, Dollmore's customer service is great, so maybe there's that to comfort me. :)

    5. And just for fun, since I featured both of my big boys in the tinfoil suit game, here they are~
Chin up Siber, I slaved over that tinfoil suit!

    6. Question: Has anyone had luck getting Dollmore to change up head sculpts on LE dolls? I am so totally sold on Tell me your wish : keeley, except I hate open mouthed sculpts - it's very limiting for pictures and frankly, I've always found Keeley's face particularly porny. But I LOVE the face up they gave her, I LOVE the tan resin, I LOVE EVERYTHING except her damn porny open mouth :| I'd buy her in a heartbeat if I could get Sochoen's head. (she'd be the perfect djinn for Ezio!)

    7. Sapphire and Genevieve; I have purchased stringing elastic and other parts from Cool Cat a while back, and was very satisfied with their products. I used to have their web address, but I misplaced it or I'd provide a link. They used to be on eBay, but I haven't seen them lately.
(I'll just go back to lurking now......:sneaky)

    8. That's okay Grouchy Gnome. I have my sources for shock cord. :XD: Never even having heard of Cool Cat before now, it would be a new resource for me. I can probably Google it anyway. I hope you can manage to get your Victor Lou restrung. :)

Girrl, that's an interesting question. I suppose it couldn't hurt to ask them if they could do a different head with that makeup. hahaha Keeley does have that porn star look about her, doesn't she? I always thought Keeley's expression was kind of...indecent. :XD:

Spam time, I think! Here is Élise with baby Émilie (a.k.a. Coco), who is the newest addition to my resin family. Émilie is Dollmore Dear Doll Shabee.

    9. I noticed Dollmore came out with a new tattooed doll, Kundry Kiss. Does anyone have any of the other tattooed dolls? I'm wondering how well the tattoos stay on. I would be afraid to handle her too much in case it would cause them to rub off.

    10. Sapphire and Genevieve: Just a quick note to let you know that I ordered a whole new outfit, including a wig for my Rhyvik today. He deserves it, because he's been so patient waiting in pieces in that shoe box all this time. When I first got him (2nd hand) I took him all apart, scrubbed up all his pieces, changed his eyes, (all three of them). But now his entire character is being changed, so he's going to go through with a complete do-over. His old stringing was loose as a goose, but if I can't get my daughter to help me restring him, I have another good friend who might have some time if I beg nicely. Genevieve, I want him to look as good as your two boys, but I need to save up for a suit for him. Sapphire, I already commented on Gabriel & Elise's new family in the Impldoll thread, but Mommy and Baby girl do
look so adorable together, I have to congratulate you all again!

VampireAngel13; Thanks for the good wishes for poor Rhyvik! He needs all the luck he can get!:XD:

    11. The tattoos are kind of a misnomer. They are actually etched in, presumably into the original doll, then a few casts are made from that, and they all have the same etching in them. So no, the tattoos don't really rub off like traditional tattoos, though the blushing will, just like normal.
      I have tattoo Nayuta Kenzo.

    12. Grouchy Gnome, congrats to Rhyvik on his makeover. ;) I'm looking forward to seeing him once you get him all put back together. Hopefully, your daughter or your friend will be able to assist you with that. Also, thanks again for the congrats on baby Émilie's arrival. She's going to be loads of fun to have around. :aheartbea

Because I am a serial spammer, here's one more of Élise with all of her little family this time. Not my best photography, but I do love this photo anyway:

    13. Ack! She's so adorable!! Émilie is the cutest! They make a great family :)
How do like the Dear Doll body? I've never seen one...and they came out too late for me (I had had a Baby Alex for years already... and he's not going anywhere.). Other than that, I don't really do human tinies, so I won't ever get any....

Grouchy Gnome ~ It's cool he's getting a makeover! Character changes can be fun. I was never really able to get into that until the last couple years. A lot of my dolls have gone through it now, and I have a few more to go. Good luck again! I hope to see him soon!

    14. I was really taken by the new Kundry Kiss girl at Dollmore, so I was gazing at the close-up of her face...but then I noticed this. What is up with this Photoshop job? It looks like her eyebrows and eye makeup is (badly) superimposed onto the image. I can see a poor job was done editing out the wig cap too, but at least it's not a glaring mistake like this is. Obviously promo pics of dolls tend to be heavily photoshopped, but that's usually the overuse of unnecessary filters and special effects. So, what the hell?

    15. It just looks to me like her hair was in her eyes and they just took another photo of her and put the eyebrows on top. Hair in eyes is a bitch to edit out...this was probably a shortcut. I'm not sure it's as big a deal as all that :\

    16. But that makes no sense...only a small portion of her eyebrow is obscured, and the other one isn't at all. And yet they superimposed both? And if you look closely, so is a pretty large area around the eye. It bothers me that they would post such a half-assed photo to advertise such an expensive doll. I'm sure it was a mistake, but I can't help but wonder why there would be such a degree of editing in the first place. This doll is a product being marketed and the product is clearly being faked; that's a no-no in my book.

    17. Then don't buy her?
Not sure what else to tell you.

    18. Grouchy Gnome: Hope we all get to see your 3-eyed Vic soon! Haha thanks a lot, I'm rather proud of my two boys! And oddly enough, I don't even like the fit of the dollmore suits specifically made for glamour models, it's rather shapeless. :T My Victor Lou is in a Volks SD-17 suit, though the shoulders are a little small, but it fits great. I just highly recomend buying dollmore brand pants specifically for GM's because they don't often fit in regular 70cm pants. I had to get my Vic those thigh-high stockings dollmore sells for the glamour models so that his ankles wouldn't show. They actually look pretty spiffy on him, ehehe. I'll have to take a pic sometime.

SapphireStargazer: Huge congrats on your adorable Shabee!! What a cute baby face, she's a perfect young child. They make an adorable family.

    19. Rita just wanted to drop in and say hi.

I am totally in love with her now that I've got to understand how to pose her.... she is one special lady.

    20. :D She is amazing!! Great photo!

Speaking of tattoos, I started Alex III's tatts today. *ded*
Seriously, whatever I was thinking owning more than one of these guys....I am insane. It's going to take me the rest of my life.
He has the most tho, so really it's all downhill from here.
