Dolls and Conventions

Apr 3, 2005

    1. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
Yes, and yes I've had my boy cosplay with me. Just recently I went to a convention with him. I've never had a fan tackle me with or without the doll.
      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?

I think it depends on the convention. I only go to Manifest, but that convention has usually been quite small (though it's getting more and more bigger in the years), but in gerneral I think they're safe places; anime fans are weirdos and won't think much of someone with a doll, unlike the general public XD
      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
I'm not a people person in general so people don't come up to me. But if they do I just keep my boy close to my chest and I think they understand that they have to ask for my permission.
      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
Hold onto him at all times XD
      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?

Nope, only heard about dolls being stolen but that doesn't happen often.
      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?

I think it's a great idea, I found out about bjd at a con after seeing them everywhere. So as long as you feel it's safe and keep an eye on them you and your doll will have a great time.

    2. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
I haven't cosplayed at conventions but I did attend a few in EGL before I had my dolls. I HAVE been tackled behind before and I almost went flying to the ground in a $300 dress x-x; I can just imagine how scary that would have been with a doll!
      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
The conventions where I live are pretty small but I still would be very cautious with my dolls. The only people who can hold them are my friends or the doll owners I've met before and even then it's only when we're together. There's a small handful of people I'd trust.
      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
Keep them in the carrier is the easiest - but because we have a bag check at my city con I carried my dolls last year (first con with dolls in my posession) and held them in my arms where they would be hard to grab. I didn't have any grabby hands thankfully but some very friendly comments and interest. Again, my cons are smaller.
      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
The doll does NOT get put down like ever. The only time my dolls were 'down' they were literally infront of my lap surronded by girls I new in the BJD community, 2 of which are longtime good friends of mine. Not to mention my big brother being there.
      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
You don't see too many BJDs at the local con, I mostly saw the one girl who usually volunteered and then the woman who was selling her lishe - but she was a vendor and not an attendee.
      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
Honestly... not really no. It's super busy, you get bumped and jabbed randomly in the busier areas, and if your doll has magnetic parts and you're carrying them... you'll probably be missing bits and peices later. I lost a minifee hand and some wanker found it but never turned it in. : \ (I know because he asked one of my friends if she was missing a hand when he saw her with her kid delf). Carrying those dolls got annoying FAST for me. Especially in the vendors room when i wanted to look at pretty things in the super tight crowds. Not fun, not really safe. If you bring them, have a safe place to store them when you're done any potential meet-up. That's my suggestion.

    3. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?

I don't cosplay much anymore. When I went to Mobi-con, it was Chae-ri who did all the cosplaying for me. :B And no, I've never been glomped by a stranger, though I have had plenty of compliments when I used to dress up.

      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?

Safety is a relative concept. As long as you're willing to keep up with your doll, a convention is as safe as anywhere else.

      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?

I've never had people try to grab my doll. That could be because I'm fairly intimidating in person, or maybe I've just been lucky.

      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?

At Mobi-Con, I never let Chae-ri out of my sight. Hell, most of the time I never even put her down, even if I was sitting down. When we were in the anime room I had her sitting on the table right in front of me.

      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?

      Not yet, knock wood.

      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?

Only if you're willing to keep up with your doll every single minute you're there. Happily, I was, but I was only day-tripping. YMMV.

    4. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
Yes I am a cosplayer and yes, he will be cosplaying with me and no not yet I hope. No tackling!!
      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?

Yes. If anything I think it's a great way for them to socialize LOL
      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
I am going to make him a hobo sign that says "No touchy"
      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
Like a credit card, keep it on your person at all times.
      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
I've never witnessed any accidents. People here are pretty understanding of these expensive dolls.
      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?

YES! I think it's a great idea and I can't wait to share mine!

    5. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
I'm a cosplayer and, the thought of making costumes for my doll has crossed my mind. Though, it wouldn't be a totally serious effort, more just. . . hey I have extra fabric from my costume left over, let's make one for the doll. I would never bring my doll to a convention. For one, it's hard enough to keep track of my purse and myself (in costume) I can't imagine having to worry over whether or not I've dropped my doll or left it somewhere.

      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?

Oh HELL no. People at cons will tackle, hug and touch without permission. I've heard stories of people running by and grabbing props then running off. I cannot imagine how angry I would be if someone grabbed a prop of mine let alone my doll. Besides, and this is just my personal feeling, I don't really think conventions are the time for dolls, especially if you're cosplaying. Maybe if you were there specifically to meet up with other doll folks...

      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?

If I did take it, let's just say I usually carry a very large sword.

      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?

      n/a

      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?

At a con two or so years ago, a couple of girls had their dolls propped up, sitting at the edge of their table as they ate. Someone accidentally bumped into the table and down fell the dolls. I don't know what happened, my line was moving, I hope they were okay, but man, that is why I don't really want to take my doll outside my room let alone in a public place.

      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?

Unless you're there specifically to meet up with other doll people? No. Especially not if you're cosplaying. People are too irresponsible of others' things at anime cons. The environment is loud, noisy and physical. I don't even think it's very conducive to cosplay anymore.

    6. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
I am a cosplayer, but have never cosplayed with a doll. I have also never been tackled. I hope it never happens, because I'm not an overly touchy fealy person, and to be frank, if I ever was tackled by a stranger, with or without doll, my response would likely be "what the **** is wrong with you!?"
I really have no idea why this sort of behavior is seen as acceptable to some people. Between friends who freak out like that? Maybe yes... but strangers. NO

      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
I think they're about as safe as anywhere else, if only slightly more dangerous. There's more people, it's a lot more crowded, and that increases the chances of an accident. There's also likely to be more people who are aware of the dolls worth.

      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
I would just try to be vary aware of my surroundings, to keep people at bay if I see them eyeing the doll and reaching towards it. Also don't take it in to the dealer's room. That is the most crowded place, with people squeezing through and pushing others aside. Plus you need your hands to hold merch anyways.

      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
Common sense. Don't leave it unattended.
It's very unlikely that someone would ask to hold it, and then try to make a mad dash with it. It's much more likely you would put it down, turn around for a moment, and when you turn back it's simply gone. Again though, if a strangers does ask to hold it, don't let your eyes off them. You'd be surprised how easy it is to completely forget what someone looks like if you're not familiar with them, and you're not trying to remember.

      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
      Thankfully never.

      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
If you're smart about it, and careful, then sure.

    7. Since 2003, I go to one particular convention a year: The San Diego Comic-Con. I have no idea how similar or different it is from other cons, anime or otherwise, but there are plenty of cosplayers at the con, many of which are inspired by anime. So with that being said, I'll answer the question in relation to my experiences at the con.

      1) Yup! I always go with some kind of costume to wear over the four to five days at the con! I actually got my doll at the 2010 Comic-Con, so I didn't get to cosplay with her. However, I'm already planning on a cosplay outfit that will allow me to cosplay with my dolly. And, now, I haven't been tackled by an overly hyper fan, but that could be because I dress as my own, made up characters, particularly Generic Fantasy Mage Costume #469 (it's a title and number I made up and use it as a running joke).

      2) Yes and no. I think it all depends on how you handle things. If you know you're going to be tired at the end of the day to the point where you think you might, lady forbid, actually forget you were carrying her and leave her someplace, then it's best not to bring her. Other circumstances to consider: Are you really prepared to carry her all day? Do you have an alternate method of carrying her if you get tired holding her in your arms? As I mentioned, cons can be tiring, and the crush can add to the exhaustion. If you're not prepared to deal with that, I say leave her at the hotel or at home. Do you have a habit of leaving your items somewhere to, say, go to the bathroom really quick, or get a drink? At the Comic-Con, most people are honest, but all it takes is just one jerk to ruin your day and make you cry, when you discover them missing.

      3) I decided to make an accessory for my costume in which it's part of the story I'm creating, while keeping her safe from the crowd. I walk with a cane, already, so I'm thinking of making a cane/walking stick accessory with a kind of globe or cage attached to it that will keep her cushioned and safe from the crowd. At the same time, if I need to take it off and take her out, it can be easily done. We're still working on design possibilities, and it's possible we'll go through several prototypes before we find one that works. I can get away with something like this, though, because my doll is 40 cm tall and made of vinyl, rather than resin, so she has a lot less weight to her.

My advice: If you want to keep your dolls away from grabby hands, you can try something like a baby carrier, or if you really want to be creative, maybe you can make your cosplay into something that lends itself to encouraging people to keep their hands off, like a warning attached to the doll such as, "The doll BITES! Touch at your own risk!" And rig a device that actually pinches people if they get brave enough to try. Is there something in your cosplay that allows for something like that?

      4) The globe/cage will hopefully be designed well enough that it will keep my doll from being damaged. As far as being stolen, I do my best to make sure my husband or one of my freinds is going to be watching her when I can't. Basically, similar precautions you'd take if you were, say, bringing a pricey camera to take pics. You certainly wouldn't leave it alone, and when you carry it around, you have something to keep it from getting harmed, like a strap, or a cushioned baggy. So, make sure your alternate carrying device can keep your doll from harm, and don't let it out of your sight, or the sight of someone you know you can trust.

      5) N/A

      6) As long as you plan it well, yes. I would strongly advise, if you've never been to that particular convention, before, that you feel it out, first, though, to make sure it's not the type of rowdy environment you're afraid it might be (i.e. tackling fans). --EDIT-- I've never had any serious problems at the SD Comic-Con, before. No one has ever grabbed at me or made a play for my live steel blades. In my experience, the con-goers at the SD Comic-Con tend to be fairly polite... but then again, my husband is 6'4" tall and tends to have an intimidating glower on his face, and that's when he's cheerful. More, people rend to respect the fact that I'm not a mobile person; I walk around with the cane, and after a while, I know I look fairly pathetic as I'm trying to hide the pain of walking through a huge convention like the SD comic-con. I have the amazing talent to make people take pity on me and leave me alone. With that said, I know everyone's experience is different, which is why I say to feel out the atmosphere, first, before taking your dolly to a convention, especially if she's made of resin and heavy.

    8. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
I've tried cosplay once or twice, this was before I had dolls and it wasn't my thing, so can't comment there.
      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
Not particularly, conventions can be very crowded and chaotic, so keep your wits about you.
      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
Be aware of whoever who might overstep their boundaries and quickly tell them off? It's hard if you're caught off guard.
      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
Keep the doll with you at all times. Do not leave them unattended for any period of time unless with a trusted person.
      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
Nope, but the dolls of my friends faceplanted when someone bumped into our table, mine was sitting down so he was absolutely fine.
      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
Can't really say, after that one time at a convention, I can't say it was awesome enough to do it again, they are far too much trouble to be constantly worried about when what I really want is to enjoy the con.

    9. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
I used to be a cosplayer, 60lbs and 15 years ago (spandex is a privilege not a right), but had I been into the dolls then I don't think I would have cosplayed with them. My costumed characters were never huggable kind of people, so I was never hugged in cosplay, and never glomped or tackled. I have seen that done, not pretty. Also it is against the security rules at the conventions I currently attend.
      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
Depends on the convention. I think the smaller conventions (under 3000 people) not a problem at all. But the huge ones, that's just one more thing to worry about with that mass of humanity.
      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
I wouldn't take my more expensive dolls or face-ups frankly. There is not much you can do about grabby kids or stupid adults. Maybe a flinching motion like you think they're attacking you personally?
      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
Treat the doll like you do your wallet, don't put it down and walk away. It's just common sense. Don't wade into a crowd of folks who are goofing around, don't stand around like you're in a daze. Again, common sense.

      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
I was at Otakon this year (about 30,000 fans) and there was one thing that went bad for others (thankfully not me).

One fellow had put two of his dolls into a backpack, and put it down. The next thing he knew the bag was gone. Who knows if it was because it looked like there was something of value in the bag, or if the person was actually after the dolls. He made an announcement about it at the BJD panel on Sunday morning. Again, don't put your purse, wallet, bag or doll down and not keep an eye on it.
Second, an observation: There was a small young woman walking the convention with a large Red Flyer wagon filled with BJDs, all kinds. And all kinds of expensive! She dragged the wagon behind her, and never really looked to see if anyone was reaching in. If she didn't loose a doll there it was by the grace of God. That was just plain tempting fate.

      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
I do, because I want to share my fandom with others.

    10. It might depend on the convention. I would never take my dolls to the conventions I go to, especially as a cosplayer. I couldn't prevent "grabby hands syndrome" on my own body, let alone on something in my arms. People think everything at con is offered at a discount, and cosplayers are there as their personal entertainment. I can't tell you how many times I've been goosed in those crowds.

Of course I've only ever cosplayed only at huge conventions like SDCC and San Francisco Wondercon where the crowd is extremely aggressive and thick. It would be dangerous just because the dolls could get crushed or trampled in the press of the crowd *shudder* Everyone is walking around with a slightly dazed and dazzled expression, and if you're in cosplay they see you as another human being even less so! You could be on your hands and knees begging people to get out of the way so you can find the wig that just fell off, and at least three people will STILL be asking you for pictures.

Bringing a doll to a convention to me would be a nightmare, IMHO--but apparently I've had particularly bad experiences compared to most...

    11. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
Occasionally I cosplay. Not as much actually to be a character as to be able to flaunt my outfits in public. Never taken a doll cosplaying, but I've been tempted to make Kia cosplay Gilbird when I "cosplay" Prussia (read: have an excuse to dress in a Vopo uniform without being called a communist or, on a few occasions, a nazi)
Never been tackled by a fan either way, though I got group hugs from squealing fangirls.
      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
Yup. Taken Rei a couple times and Kia once.
      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
No one ever had it. However, if someone seems interested in my dolls, I instantly thrust them into the person's arms. I'm not shy about letting people play with my babies.
      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
They're carried nice and safe in my arms at all times. That's good enough.
      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
      Nope.
      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
Sure, though SDs get DARN HEAVY after a while. God, when I start bringing my 70 cm girl... *_*

    12. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
I don't cosplay, but I do dress up in the antique kimono I collect. My dolls don't cosplay either. Thankfully, being in kimono, strangers seem less inclined to glomp me- it hasn't happened to me in years.

      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
I think it really depends. If you plan to be buying a lot of things and can't easily bring things to your hotel room, I think carrying around a doll on top of all that is probably not a great idea. Leaving them unattended somewhere is just downright stupid, so if you don't have a friend you can ask to hold your doll if you need both hands, then I wouldn't bring one. You also need to keep in mind any accessories that the doll might be wearing or carrying that could fall off easily- if your doll's wig likes to pop off or their shoes are a bit too big and wiggle themselves loose, I would leave them at home. But if you're smart and think things through, I think a convention is perfectly safe.

      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
I haven't taken my tinies to a con yet, but the SD girl I'm selling has been to a few. I always carried her in the crook of my arm, right up against me, and I am proficient with the glare of death. :) I haven't needed anything else.

      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
I kept her in my arms or in the hands of a good friend at all times. I never tried to stand her anywhere she could get bumped or knocked over.

      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
      Nope.

      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
Conventions are the only time I bring my dolls out and see other dolls, so yeah!

    13. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
Thinking about getting into it... but there's not many anime characters who look like me or who I'd be willing to dress as so finding a costume is hard. I will have one of my dolls cosplay at a con I'm going to soon. I've never seen a "tackler" and I hope I never will.

      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
No. I have had an anime figurine stolen from me before at a con so I always watch my dolls like a hawk or at least leave them with people I trust.

      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
I've only had one "grabby hands" person take my doll before but I politely asked them to be careful. They may touch as long as they have clean hands and keep their fingers off the face.

      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
For one, I only bring about 3 max to a con in a carrier (though I can probably bring more now that I have a second carrier) and I don't bring my 80cm Sabik anywhere because he's just too big. Like I mentioned I always keep an eye on them and if I have to leave temporarily I make sure a person I trust is watching them.

      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
No, and I hope it never happens.

      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
Yes, as long as you are careful.

    14. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
Yes, I'm a cosplayer and I enjoy making costumes for both myself and my dolls. And yes, I've also been glomped from behind while holding my doll. Luckily nothing happened, and due to this situation I noticed one of my doll's accessories had fallen off. (And I found it later on but it's possible I wouldn't have if they hadn't glomped me..)

      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
Well, there sure are more people than in other places, and also more people who know how much they'd get out of these dolls if they took them. BUT there also more people who can help you if that happened also.

      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from grabby hands syndrome?
Grabby hands syndrome? I don't know what that is but I've never had trouble with people who want to hold my dolls. Everyone has always been polite and careful with them. ^^

      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isnt harmed/stolen during such an event?
I always keep my eye on them, and when I want to carry my prop around, I'll hide the doll in something (Ex. my sleeping bag's bag) and leave them to where ever you're supposed to take your bags to. And I've never brought more than one doll with me to a convention.

      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
Nope. The worst cases are the fallen wigs and accessories.

      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
If you think you cankeep an eye on your doll and still have a good time, then why not? It's more fun to take part in BJD-meets if you have your own doll with you, and if you happen to get bored for what ever reason at the convention/train, you have a good way of amusing yourself. :3

    15. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
I do cosplay, though just not all the time. My doll never has cosplayed with me, and I don't think he ever will. I've been glomped from behind but never full out tackled. Though the possibility for that is there, last con I went to a screaming fangirl ran passed me and tackled some guy cosplaying and knocked the poor guy over.

      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
I think so. Sure there are a lot of people there, but you just have to be aware of your surroundings and everything will be fine. Anyways, if something went wrong there is always ton of people around who would be there to back you up.

      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from grabby hands syndrome?
I've never had that problem, people always are super careful and polite when the ask to hold my doll which I'm happy to let them! :) If your worried about it, just keep your doll close enough to you that if something did try to grab them, they would fail terribly.
      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isnt harmed/stolen during such an event?
II only would take one doll, no more since keeping an eye on one is enough for me. Carry your doll with you, don't leave them anywhere or with anyone you don't trust with your life. Also having a carrier bag is good to have since if you have a larger doll they will get heavy.
Get ready for a sore arm c:

      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
Nope, and I hope I never do.
      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
Yes, as long as your willing to keep them with you at all times your set. You get to talk with a lot of people at doll meets and even just people coming up to you asking about your doll.

    16. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
I'm a cosplayer; however, the one time I brought my doll to a convention I was in gothic lolita and my doll (a boy) was in a coordinating suit, so he wasn't cosplaying. I've had people hug me, sometimes a bit roughly, before, but never when my doll was with me.
      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
If you are careful, then yes, they usually are. There will always be the weird accidents and people that you'll hear about, but accidents can happen anywhere.
      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
My doll spent most of his time in my backpack, wrapped up in a fluffy blanket. I wanted my hands free to shop and take pictures, so he wasn't out enough for many people to see him. I always keep a firm hold on my dolls anyways, and recently my boyfriend has been attending conventions with me, so I'm hoping a firm grip and a guy near me will help deter the grabby hands.
      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
I never, ever take my doll out when I'm by myself at a convention (I'm almost never by myself at a con anyways). If I'm splitting away from the group temporarily, my doll gets put away because I want back-up if anything were to ever happen. A short, lone girl is not intimidating. I also don't carry my doll through really crowded areas, and I always keep a firm grip on him. Finally, if anyone were to ask to hold him, I would be watching them like a hawk and have my friends with me. My boyfriend's a runner, so if anyone tried to escape with one of my dolls he could catch them easily XD
      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
      No
      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
Yes, provided that you are with other people and keep a careful eye on them at all times.

    17. 1. Are you a cosplayer?

      Not a cosplayer..

      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?

It depends. I've took my doll to a convention a few months ago, and a pretty big one (biggest anime convention in Latin America).
I don't regret it, it was really fun :)
There was a room just for dolls at the convention, so I did not have to carry her around all the time.

      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?

I've never had problems with someone touching my dolls without permission! Everyone who wanted to touch her asked if it was ok to do it first. And there were people taking care of the dolls in the room she stayed in, so that really wasn't a problem.

      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?

Well, I trusted the ones who looked after her when I was not around. And when she was with me, I just would never take my eyes off of her!

      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?

      No.

      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?

I do think it's a good idea, but obviously it's a personal opinion...
I like to see her with all the other dolls, and I know that many people only have the opportunity to have some contact with bjds and get to know them better in events like that.
But I probably would not bring her with me if I had to stay close to her all the time or if I had to carry her for hours.

    18. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
No, but I'm working on it XD I have plans to start cosplaying next year. I want to be Misha from Pita Ten and my doll will be Kentarou LOOOL:aheartbea
      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
Well I have already visited some and I have mixed thoughts about the safety. I had a lot of squeezing trough crowds and poeple bumping into me, so I think it would be bad if anything happened to my doll :o But as long as the doll is safe from other people coming too near (LOL) I guess its okay...
      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
I know myself, so I'm sure I would see that coming and step back from people who could touch my doll... I'm not picky about that, but there are people who dont understand what it means that a doll is something "tender" (dont know how to put this XD) or they are just ignorant... I would just say them its not good to grab them and go away...
      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
Keep your eyes on your doll! Even if looking through stands, hold it close or put it in a bag where its safe (but the bag should be doll-friendly XD) Also try avoid big crowds or walk carefully.
      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
No (I dont have a doll yet XD) and I hope I will never have to experience something like that!
      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
Well, since I plan on doing this: yes XD It's something related to AniMa or Japan conventions I think :3

    19. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
I have been a cosplayer for two years now XD It was my main hobby before dolls. I haven't made a cosplay for Cream yet but I think a Loveless one might be in order sometime~ No hyperactive fan tackles, my intimidating friend makes sure of that. lol
      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
...Hmm. This is a good question. It's really up to you to be careful and watch your doll and people around you. I know there'll always be those few bad apples in the crowd. It's just a matter of be cautious.
      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
I usually calmly tell them that he's rather fragile and I'd rather not anyone else handle him.
      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
ALWAYS always make sure you know where your doll is. My friend lost a camera at a con, and after that I've been extra careful about knowing where my stuff is at all times. This includes my doll.
      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
Nope, haven't taken my current doll to an event yet.
      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
I think if you're careful it can be a fun experience! ^^

    20. 1. Are you a cosplayer? If so, does your doll cosplay with you? Have you ever had an overly hyper fan tackle you from behind with a doll, or without?
      Nope, don't cosplay. lol

      2. Do you think Convention environments are a safe place to take your dolls?
They are as long as you pay attention to your surroundings. :)

      3. If you take your dolls, how do you prevent people from ‘grabby hands syndrome’?
I personally hold my boy close to me at all times, preventing anyone from grabbing him away from me, unless they want to put their hands on me as well to get him >.>

      4. What safety precautions do you take to assure your doll isn’t harmed/stolen during such an event?
NEVER set him/her down, unless you are RIGHT there looking RIGHT at him/her. I rarely if ever let anyone hold my boy either. And like I said above, I keep him very close at allllll times to insure he's not harmed by a passer-byer.

      5. Have you ever witnessed/have had an accident occur at a con with your doll?
No, but I would think the most common accidents are the falling over when standing.

      6. Do you think bringing dolls to conventions is a good idea?
Sure is :D As long as you're smart about it. Lots of meets are held at cons since a lot of people travel HOURS to go to a specific con. lol [I'm sure you already know that though LoL] Next year my boy is actually going to MegaCon in Florida, it'll be his 2nd con. :)
