1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dolls and Conventions

Apr 3, 2005

    1. I've taken dolls to a few conventions, and it's not something I really like to do. I'm usually too busy and too burdened down with cosplay props, bags from the dealer's room, a purse, and everything else. I guess if you're planning to devote a portion of your convetion time to doll socialising and you can stash your other stuff somewhere else, it's fun to carry a doll in your arms. Just be careful.

    2. I took Tristan to Anime Iowa with me this year. He cosplayed, I didn't. Most of the time I carried him in the crook of my arm. In crowded places like the dealer's room or the line for Cosplay, he went on my shoulder. (I figured he was less likly to get squished.) He usually hugged my neck if I wasn't going to be able to hold his feet.

Mind you - before that con, the only times he's stayed on my shoulder was while wearing a wool winter coat...now he'll stay up there all the time. O.o

    3. Mine's a minifee so I'm a bit worried about perching him on my shoulder.. when they're on your shoulder do you hold onto their legs to keep them from falling off? o_o

    4. You know one person at Comicon (forgot her user name here on DOA), carried her two in a basket. After carying my girls through the con, I honestly think if you have something like a basket or pack to put them in when you get tired that's the best way.

      Have fun at your con.

    5. Well, my SD-size boys balance on their own... I don't bother to hold onto 'Nei or Seine unless I'm going down some stairs or bouncing. But yes, I hold onto Kel's legs when he's on my shoulder since he's MSD-sized. Do it all the time...even at college.

    6. I tried to balance Kieran on my shoulder yesterday after your suggestions and this was only sucessful when holding his legs. Come Akon I'll have Frost's non-cloth body, so I should be able to carry him about this way then. XD

    7. I carried mine around in my old baby sling :)

    8. Oh what a cute idea! :D See, I hadn't even thought of using something like that. XD

    9. i carry him on my arm, but i put an elastic around his waist and my arm, just in case anyone bumps me or something. I wouldn't want to drop Blaise...

    10. ^-^ as everyone has suggested.. it's nice to carry them in your arms... but definately advisable to take a bag to put them in to give you a rest.

I took a freaking HOUND all the way to London (nearly two hours on a train) to a convention and back again all in one day...without a bag.
I couldn't moooove my arms the next day, hehe.

    11. My roommate and I went in on a suitcase on wheels that will fit all our guys. We pack them in layers with the heaviest on the bottom and everyone well cushioned with blankets and the pillows they came with. When we went to Acen, we didn't have the suitcase and trying to carry everyone to doll meetups was literally a real pain--my arms went numb.

    12. I carried Cedric around in the crook of my arm while at Ikasucon. When he wasn't being carried, he was either in his bag on my back or sitting at a friend's artist's alley table. There ended up being quite a few dolls there, even from people I didn't know ^_^;

    13. See, I'd be paranoid about putting mine down like that. :x;; I'd be afraid someone would snatch him, or he'd take a tumble.

    14. I just carry Zach and His Majesty in my arms - His Majesty in particular hates being inside his case. But when Moirgan arrives, I am am afraid it will be time for a 'get to leave the house' rota as I don't think I can carry three easily!

    15. I know there was another thread like this, because I remember saying that I always brought my doll bag with me, so I can put them away if there's dealer's room booty I'd like to paw through, or if I feel like the situation has become unsafe. (IE, having to take them through a bad neighborhood to get to food.)

I actually prefer taking mine to sci-fi cons, because at anime cons I get "oh, another one of THOSE dolls," whereas at sci-fi cons I get "OMG dollfie I've never seen one in person before!"

    16. wherever I go with him he stays with me in my arms...if my arms start getting tired (which is rare) he sits right up on my shoulder...now I have been trying to get practice in on carrying two, since his brother will be here soon...but the only practice I have had was carrying ViolentViolet's Vincent...and he's a bw el...which made it harder since his resin is a whole lot heaver than Luka

    17. you know I will agree with you on that, but when I take them to anime con's I get the fangirl who tries to molest and grab at my doll (if you wanna hold him just ask, I may say yes) , or the jerk who has to make the "whats the big deal about the doll, its just a doll" comment. I mean for once people who own dolls like these deserve some sort of respect when carrying them

      if that makes any sense

    19. At Anime North, when I toted my dolls around; Keeran was kept in his bag (because ZOMG I am not carrying 2ft of resin) which I had slung across my back and Blanche was seated on this sort of "carry on luggage" bag where I had my camera, wallet and con schedule stored, I managed to position her on the bag in such a way that she could just sit there as I browsed around (mind you, the bag wasn't very full, so it was easily 'molded' into a doll seat).

    20. AWA starts tommorow and I have no idea as of yet how in the world I'm going to wrangle my four and I refuse to leave any of them at home.
