dolls and gender [Just a weird thought!]

May 13, 2012

    1. The reason I was so into boy dolls at first was because male BJDs are so interesting compared to most other dolls IMO. And they suited my roleplaying characters from when I was younger perfectly!
I suppose there are some ladies who might see their boy as themselves as a boy. Or the chance to express how they would dress if they were male. Same for guys I guess.

I wanted a group of beautiful boys but then something changed in me.
I needed a girl! I want to buy the pretty dresses and my boy isn't into that! :XD:
So for me, I don't think it had much to do with my gender, or wanting to express myself as the opposite sex through a doll....I just found the dolls I liked and went with it. :)

    2. I'm a girl who prefers girl dolls. They're easier and more fun to sew for, and you don't have to worry that someone's going to pants your girl. Dressing up a girl is easier because I know what's usually trendy for women. I don't really know too much about men's clothes, and I worry that my male dolls will look rather plain when compared to my female dolls.

Currently, the genders are even - 1 boy, 1 girl. But the next doll will be a 58cm girl that I know I'm going to have a great time sewing for.

    3. I have mostly male dolls. Part of it is just how scarce and crappy boy dolls used to be before bjds... Part of it is that I do like male bodies. And male characters. And because I'm a girl, it's just fun to be able to play about with male dolls. I like the clothes and everything about male dolls. Even my little anthros are male!

But I have some female dolls, too. It's fun to dress them, I do admit. But clothes for boys in the bjd world are so very cool, that I don't think the boys lack in the fun-to-dress department. :)

    4. I'm a girl. I own 4 girl dolls and a boy doll. The girls are my favourites though I love them all.
I find it harder to find sculpts I like that look male enough, many dolls are too feminine or androgyne for my tastes, especially as I focus on the MSD size.
All of my dolls have fleshed out characters and stories. They're equal to me. Gender itself isn't the most important thing to me.

    5. I'm a girl and l will end up having both girl/boys BJD's. Right now l have one girl who is a (Hazuki) obitsu 48cm.

    6. I think I'll only ever really collect girl dolls- it's probably the aesthetic sense of beauty that I have in my mind that made me think this way, though I'd agree with the above quote quite whole-heartedly

    7. I'm female and I'd like to have a group of even numbers of both genders. The only problem is I can find triple the amount of girls I like as opposed to boys XD

    8. Out of a total of 26, either already home or in the works at current, 12 are boys and 14 are girls. So, I have a pretty even split. But, this makes a LOT of sense for me. I let the characters come to me as they wish, and given I, myself, have a lot of male/female mix to my own personality, it's not surprising to me that it's so equally split in my dolls.

    9. Sorry, but your reasoning doesn't make a lot of sense. You can be just as creative with the same sex, if not more, because you are that sex. You know what that sex could feel and could go through and such.
That's what I have at least. For the longest time I only had females, because I had no clue how a male doll would 'behave' so to speak.
Now I have a male doll, and I only have him cause he's too darn pretty. And not very manly.

    10. I tend to like only girl dolls. I always fall in love with that beautiful, blushy cheeked feminine face as opposed to a more boyish look. It's just my nature, I suppose.

Out of the three dolls I own, two are girls and one is a boy-bodied doll with an extremely feminine face that I ended up only dressing in female clothes. I guess they represent different ideas of femininity that I enjoy. My first doll, a Dollfie Dream, is very curvaceous and sexy and I enjoy dressing her in a figure-flattering manner. The second, a Pukipuki Sugar, is like a bubbly little creature made of everything cute. She has all sorts of little toys and magnetic horns and animal ears and things that make her adorable. My last, a Dream of Doll Too, has this enchanting face and full, pink lips and cheeks that just don't suit a boy in my opinion. So, this doll wears frilly and sweet-styled clothing and I no longer perceive this as a male doll, despite the "doll parts" underneath. I am considering changing the male body for a female one, if I find a body sculpt out there somewhere that I really like.

    11. Even though I am female, I've always seen myself as a male. I am attracted to females, and the dolls I own are male. They will continue to be male. Something about the lean structure of male dolls is appealing to me.

Maybe it's a strange psychosis...? lol I *might* get a girl doll...but it is real hard for me to pick one that doesn't look like a sex toy. :I It's probably the boobs. I hate fake boobs...and many dolls have that Pamela Anderson thing going on.

...but that is just my opinion.

    12. I like looking at the boy dolls better, as in pictures of other people's BJDs. People seem to give them a very interesting style which is contrasted to a lot of froofy stuff for girls that I don't find appealing. I also tend to prefer male sculpts and many 'girl' sculpts that I like I think look better as boys. For my own collection, I find boy dolls boring to own. The two I have look very silly in anything other than standard clothing and they don't interest me. I like them still and I am in fact going to get a new boy very soon, but he's going to be a lot more interesting so perhaps will break the trend and give another boy against my five girls... ;)

    13. Many of us in the hobby seem to end up with "some of each", no matter what gender we are ourselves...
I'm female myself, and while my guys do outnumber my girls, I've had both in my crew from early on.

    14. Thanks for all of your comments :)

    15. I was a 'only boys' owner because... when I was a kid I was picked on a lot by girls, they always judged how I looked and everything!! I was a shy girl and I came from a humble family. Most of those girls came from rich families (and we were only 6-7 years old! it surprises me how much hate we can get from kids at such a young age). i started to resent everything that has to do about girls, I took care of my nieces and little brothers and I got along better with the boys.

Also, I used to hate dolls when I was a kid, I preferred to play with my brothers or cars. Due to this: my bad connection with girls in my childhood + my hate for barbies or american dolls, I like boys better and I find them like something unique and fresh after all the barbies thrown in the garbage. However, I bought one girl doll 'by mistake' I wanted to buy Puki Piki but somehow I purchased puki sugar ~_~ and when she arrived...I FELL IN LOVE! best mistake ever lol I still bought Puki Piki but I'm afraid I enjoy my Puki Sugar more. I love seeing her in those cute dresses and she is my princess =D

So...my little girl made me forget about my distaste for girls in RL and girl dolls. I want girl dolls in the future but right now I haven't found the 'right' sculpt that screams to me "I AM THE ONE". I have my doors open though^^

    16. I am a girl, and I am sexually attracted to males. Almost all of my OCs are male, only a slight few were/are female. Almost all of my dolls are male, my tinies and yo sizes are almost all female. I recently got my first real female doll (like with boobs lol). I wanted a girl doll to make girly clothes for. It's not really that I never wanted a girl doll, I think a lot of them had very beautiful faces...but I did not like their bodies.

For a while the trend was biggggg boobs, but now it seems like the boobs are getting smaller. I do not like big boobs. xD

There is probably some kind of subconscious decision in all of this, but I have no idea!

    17. Ikr? Some obitsu (I know they are vinyl) have ridiculous size boobs like cup f and such :P

    18. Like I said...I don't like the girl dolls with the Pamela Anderson jugs. >:/

It's just awkward. Especially if the doll has bigger boobs then I do. Though, if I was pointed in the right direction for female-dolls-with-decent-boobs-that-don't-resemble-a-miniature-blowup doll, I would save up for a female doll. :3 And she would be my little princess. XD

    19. I have about an even split of M/F which probably reflects my personality ;) I have fun with both princesses and cowboys. And while I didn't go out of my way to find them, a lot of the girls are busty/curvy, maybe because the real-life women I know like that are strong, intelligent women.

    20. I'm a woman and I have all male dolls. I like looking at them as decorative objects in my home. I have absolutely no need for women as decorative objects, because I am already surrounded by that shit in daily life and mass media, and I don't need any of it in my home. Home is the sanctuary where my rules are law, not somebody else's marketing guidelines.

Besides, boy BJDs generally have more interesting faces, look better in clothes, & are more fun to play dressup with. :aheartbea When I want to play dressup with women's clothes, I drag out my own clothing bins & piles of shoes, and doll myself up.
