1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dolls and names

May 23, 2008

    1. My dolls are actors and models. So when they are in character, they are called by the character's name and when they are out of character, I refer to them as their original given name.

    2. Naming dolls is literally the hardest thing for me. It took me about a year to figure out a name for my first doll and my others have names that are really similar to their sculpt names. >.>

    3. I do a little of both. While my SDs all have new names & well developed characters, my MSDs & some tinies generally retain their mold name basically because their universes aren't as well developed. Some of my tinies & MSDs do have different names because their original mold names didn't appeal to me.

    4. I must say I was tempted to keep the sculpt name for my Bobobie Weylin. It's a cute name, imo, and at first, I had a difficult time coming up with anything else! I even tried turning it sorta backward and ended up with Linley or Linlae, but while cute, it was too dorky sounding and not exotic enough for my ... social butterfly. In the end, I was against keeping the name 'Weylin' mainly because I didn't want to run into another of the same sculpt with the same name, or immediately think of my doll every time someone mentioned the sculpt.

    5. I have one doll with the sculpt name...it just fits. No other name will work!

    6. I prefer to think up a name that fits the character I want to create for my doll.
I love names that are a little darker and that are uniqeu (or atleast close to, since uniqeuness is pretty hard)

    7. My dolls all have pretty normal names, I don't to do fantasy names. I think up their names before I even pick the doll :P I know which names I like and I just say 'yeah she looks like a...'

I haven't seen a doll which I would keep the original name (but since mine would be pong and shushu you can't blame me :P ) though Luka might have worked xD

    8. The dolls I have at home so far were given names even before they arrived.

However right now I am waiting for a new doll and I am actually stuck when it comes to figuring out a name for him :sweat. I have a few ideas but nothing that has really hit the mark so far. The idea right now is to find a first name for him that I like and keep the company's name as either a nickname or as his last name. We'll just have to see but it's a fun challenge to for once not know his name before ordering :)

    9. does anyone use 'baby name' sources like baby name books or websites? Just curious ^^ I plan on seeing if I can look up 'popular names' for England in the 1800's... if I can find such a list that is.

    10. I've got two dolls with their "own" names, Eiji and Elly. Then there's Ryu, who's an MD Ryu and the name just fits him, so he's going by it until I find out a better one (if that ever happens). And then there's my MD Miho, who refuses to go by his mold name, but won't tell me his real name. :P So he's just Unnamed for now.

I also have two dolls on the way - IH Tania and SOOM Glati. Neither of them have names, but I do like the names they have. Tania ~might keep hers, at least to start with, unless she arrives and a name comes to mind when I see her in person. The same goes for Glati, though I'm pretty sure he will tell me his real name once he gets here. Glati is a nice name, but he has so much attitude that I'm sure he'll want to rename himself!

    11. My doll which is on the way is a ResinSoul Yu and I have already named her "Mira". Don't know exactly why but that is the name that came to me when I saw her.

    12. I prefer giving my dolls their own names, I feel it gives them more of a character, more of a personality. It makes me feel closer to them as odd as that seem to people I know not in the hobby.

    13. My mom kept her DZ Hid's name as "Hid". Sometimes I refer to him as "Hidley" just to be silly. :) She liked the mold name so she kept it!

My dolls are named for roleplay characters I already have so none of my crew kept their mold name. :(

    14. I usually don't want to keep their mold names, because it just feels wrong to me. I create characters and personalities for them instantly, so I feel like they require their own names. However, I have kept the mold name as part of their names. Kira's full name is Hidan Kirata (DZ Hid) and Vienna's last name is Kyani (DZ Ani), for instance. Or I might already have the name/character and just need to find the perfect doll that will fit that specific character.

The only one who's close to his mold name would be Damian, who's a DollFamily A-Damien head. But he's got custom faceup, and considering how much I love the name Damian, I'm just not able to call him anything else.

So I guess if I end up buying a doll who already has a name I completely fall in love with, I'll keep it. Maybe change out a few letters, just to make it my own.

    15. I like to give my dolls names.. it makes me feel more bonded to them and their being more personal rather than referring to them as their sculpt name. Usually I just find a few names I like and see which one jumps out the most. That's been the case for 3 out of my 4.. because that one is a specific character that can have no other name.

    16. i ordered a dollzone kimi and at first i thought kimi was a cute name and was going to use that. but one night i was thinking to myself and the name Romy came up and I liked that a whole lot better. Homika is also a cute name so its tie between those 2 but ive mostly been calling her Romy.

    17. My first doll, Angelo, has both a new name and his mold name. I used his mold name "Apollo" as his last name. So, his full name is Angelo Edmund Apollo. My other two do not have names that have anything to do with their molds. I could never leave a doll nameless. It may take me a while to come up with a name, but every doll must have a name given to them eventually.
