Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Dolls and names

May 23, 2008

    1. I'll refer to them by the mold name till I get them home; the rare exceptions were Elias and Lyric, who were named before they got home to me. They just looked perfect for those names, and snatched them up.

    2. I have a LUTS Litchi that I named "Jasperella" or "Jaszi." I plan on getting a Little Junior Meoroo and naming hir "Dani Lux." S/he will be unisex. I'm planning on making hir my expressed inner scene. :D

    3. I usually am a fan of making up names for my dollies, but in the case of the DZ Annie I plan on getting, I actually want to keep her company name. c: It just seems to fit her. Names can be tricky for me, though... I have a lot of trouble changing them after I choose something, even if I end up disliking the name after a while.

    4. The first name I think of when seeing my doll for the first time = their name. Wither it be the official mold name or an original one.

    5. For me, that special BJD has to be in my hands and in person to get a feel for the right name. I think I may name one of them Elise... just because I love the name. I am just not sure it will fit my first new girl when she gets here ^_^

    6. I have 4 dolls, 1 incoming.

Nanjou Isao keeps his name in full because it suits him.

The Volks F38 is a generic head mold with no name and so I had to name him. I call him Christian or Chris is short. His family name is Himura. Christian Himura sounds strange but actually it's an interesting name. My F38 cannot be named Kenshin Himura because he does not have the cross shaped scare on his face like the actual anime character. I also did not name him Kenji Himura (Kenshin's son). Christian suits him. Sometimes, I call him Himura. He likes it.

Soom Sphaler told me his name is Aisin. Aisin Sphaler, Aisin is first name and Sphaler is family name.

Howl from Luts retains his sculpt name but I added a family name Rochester. Howl Rochester is a lovely name, suits him.

I intend to let the incoming Yukinojo Sawaragi (Joe) retain his name in full except that Joe will be extended to Joekim.

    7. I've assigned temp names to most of my dolls, usually the mold name, until something occurs to me that just fits. My most recent doll just fits this name I read in a manga, not that the doll will be styled like that character. I was just so influenced that it seems to fit. I listen to an oldies radio station and the song "Deacon Blue" is sticking in my head. One of my dolls might fit it or perhaps it will have to wait for a new arrival.

    8. I don't really get a lot of time to hammer out my doll's styles and stories, but I do like to buy them (especially because the company waits are so long!) They sit with me and I try to fine tune who they will be but names always take me the longest. While I'm waiting I try to think of names, and then when they arrive I usually refer to them by their sculpt names until something settles.

I guess the biggest problem I have is that they are more characters than dolls, so it's important that the names are fitting to their sculpt, personality and story... as well as "flow well" with their counterparts. Because of it, I usually end up with a lot of names up in the air, and usually nothing permanent until both they AND the others are more complete. Which means if two characters are closely intertwined, it's a good chance one won't have a name until the other is also home with me.

It's a terrible habit but I don't mind calling them by their sculpt in the mean time :) I know when the right name is in front of me, it will just FIT.

    9. I never consider giving my dolls their company name. It's not really something that crosses my mind when picking out or browsing dolls. To me it's kind of like naming your golden retriever 'Golden Retriever' imo.

I take quite a while when naming anything, not just bjds. Eventually you find that one name where you couldn't possibly imagine them without that name.

    10. I'm trying to come up with a name for a BBB Long. And it's alot more difficult than I thougt it would be. I find it harder to name males because all of the names I'm instinctly drawn to are feminine in nature and you can't really get away with chaning them to masculine. (Well, you probably could but i'm not sure I'd want to.)

Luckily! I took the suggestion of mazouko and looked at behindthename.com! I've fallen in love with Ingo which amuses me because it's a germanic masculine form for a god of fertility. Which I think is a good basis to build my doll around!

    11. I'm ordering my first doll today, a luts kid delf Ani, and I definetely don't intend on keeping that name. I don't think I would ever want to keep a mold name. She'll be named Harbor. :)

    12. When I got my first doll it took me about two days to decided a name for her and then it came to me, for my second doll she already had a name and I decided to keep that name for her.

    13. I'm not averse to the idea of keeping the sculpt's name, especially in cases where the name really suits that face. Sometimes you can tell the sculptor was just channelling that face really well to attach that name to it.

But no, I've never done it myself! I've got too many great names zinging around in my head already, eager to be used up, so my dolls do get named. I have an assortment of 30 odd names from around the world & out of this world, each one perfect for the man it's attached to.

If I had many multiples of the same sculpt-- like if I had that army of Volks Shiros I still dream about-- then I'm sure half of them would be called Shiro. That guy just LOOKS like a Shiro.
      :whee:

    14. I like making names. :)
I remember; I spent hours thinking about a name. I didn't even buy the doll yet, and still haven't. ((Ordering very, very soon though. xD)) But yet I spent, I swear, almost five hours thinking of what name to suit him. I just find it nice that you especially named them a name that you thought was fitting. <3

Unless you actually like the name that the sculpt comes with. Then in that cat, nothing's wrong with leaving the name. xD Just as long as I can pronounce it, ahah. xDD ((Another thing...the doll I picked; I have no idea how to pronounce the name.))

    15. I refer to my dolls by their mold names, my Elfdoll Vivien just stayed Vivien as it suited her. My other dolls have names I gave them but I seem to just always call them by their mold names.

    16. My friend got Amy from iple house and she kept the doll's name as Amy :)

    17. I didn't keep the name for my doll. I thought it might be funny to be saying "Si" all the time, and having friends say "yes to what..?" XD Also, his name sorta jumped me before he even got here. He just looks like an Ichabod to me :3

    18. I plan on renaming my DoC Tender Too and Bee-A since their names seems to be a little... "un-namelike"? And since they're going to be Celtic characters with Ginger hair I think that I'm going to give the names from one of the Gaelic languages. It depends on their characters if I go with names in Irish, Scottish or Welsh though.

    19. Good question! First of all I wanted to call her Addison, then, I thought about a lot of others names (like 40 names... lol ! ) and I choose to name her "Darjeeling". Few months after I think that Addison was certainly the good one, so I think that the first impress is the good one! ; )
PS : sorry for my bad english...

    20. I have a book in which I keep a list of names. Every name I think of that might be the one goes in there. It's a good way to inspire myself. It's also good to pay attention to names that keep popping up in your mind. For my Pukifee Bonnie the name Dolores came up a lot so now that's the one.
For my Multihead Cupid I had four names in a row that I liked: Tale, Song, Sage and Saga. Saga was the one that came up most often so that's what it's become :)!
