Dolls as...Rewards?

Apr 26, 2010

    1. I have to admit for the right doll I would do just about anything my hubby asked me to do. But so far it's been more so he doesn't have to shop for gifts. One pair of dolls got him off hook for 5 occasions he would buy me stuff. But if he wanted me to do a job like stain the 2 decks we have, a major job, or some other project I avoid like plague for the cash or doll I wnated would be ready with paint brush in hand.

    2. My mom made a deal with me. She helped me buy my dbdoll yelang and I lost 20 pounds ^^
Makes my doll Wolfram really special to me, because my mom cared enough to help me out like that, and I did what I thought was impossible (I had never managed to lose weight before this)

Great thread! <3 Now I want to find some new doll motivation XD

    3. Wish I had someone buy me one for certain things. But I just buy them myself. No real reason to buy it unless I have the money.

    4. My girl was a reward of a sort, actually--my parents said they wouldn't let me buy her unless I made honor roll the entire year. Sure, I wrestled that down to "Well, what about just I have to keep honor roll to keep her?" and even managed to get them to pay for about half her cost ( :D! ) but she still wouldn't be here with me if I wasn't keeping good grades, so I count her as a reward.

Anyhow, I think it's a great idea. These dolls are expensive enough that I feel guilty spending money on them purely for entertainment--I know that's what they're there for, and it's perfectly my right to do so, but I always feel like for that big of a purchase, I've got to justify it somehow!

    5. If someone would buy me my doll's much needed body for losing weight, then we would definately have a deal. I already promised myself that I could get double pierced ears if I got to my target weight.

I'm going to be getting my A-line MNF body as a present for myself as a congratulations on a new job. The only problem is that the job doesn't start for a few months, and I have to get paid for a few months before I'll be able to afford it. But it is definately worth the wait.

    6. Money for the fund is more likely than an actual doll in my case. Generally, the dolls I have my eye on are usually far more expensive than anything I'd be given as a reward by anyone except myself. And even though there are some dolls that are lower priced, it's still a large enough sum that I would not be comfortable naming them as 'the thing I'd like to be given for doing something impressive' by the people in my life that might at some point be inclined to do something about it. I would not feel right accepting it.

    7. I kinda do this :)

It's more along the lines of I see a doll I like and go, "oh I got an A in both my english classes and an upper division class. I should reward myself" or "if I don't get As on half my midterms no more doll stuff for the rest of the quarter".

    8. I like the idea of dolls as rewards, but I think the doll should be corresponding to the goal reached.

Example: If I lose 20 lbs I will get myself a tiny.

As for me...I think I will use some of the incentives here and dolls as rewards. Thanks!

    9. Last year, as a high school junior, my mom was really concerned about me getting a good grade on the SAT, so she offered to buy me a doll if I got above a certain score on it. I came within a hundred points of the threshold the first time I took it, and got the score I needed the second time, so my mom bought me my Supia Rosy (who is now sold). I studied fanatically for the test because I knew my Nell was going to be at the other end of the road, and I doubt I would have scored as well as I did if that incentive wasn't there. And the score helped me get into one of my top choice colleges, so I'm happy all around. : D

      I'm really grateful that my mother was so generous with me! ;_;

    10. I like that.... that things should be corresponding. haha, I mean I certainly wouldn't go "If I take a walk tomorrow I can go buy the doll I want.'
I'm amazed at the number of people who have gotten dolls for getting good grades or keeping their grades up! Lucky Lucky folks! I mean.... my parents kind of went the other route in that, If I didn't keep my grades up I wouldn't see the light of day outside of school or have any semblance of a social life! So the grades stayed up for fear of loosing stuff, not for hope of getting something.
But at least goes to show dolls or doll things can be incentive for all kinds of things you'd maybe otherwise be inclined to slack on, not just weight..... It's weight for me becaaaause, well to be perfectly honest I've had NO self control and really need to turn things around for myself. The real reward of course will be being healthier and capable of being more active and having more energy. But right now the doll is my little post on the fridge reminder, because lets face it, prior to now even the 'wow I could do so much more if I was Average size' has not won out over the 'Mmm, bacon cheesburger would be great at ten pm....to the car!!'
So I'm giving myself that carrot...hehe, you know like the carrot ona string dangled infront of a donkey? Sorry...I'm picturing like a pathetic looking Bisou now flailing on a string..but yeah.
But yeah, I've got my goal set, and we'll see. I'd like to see some others decide on something.... not sure what others could do but....I dunno. Something!
Go running every morning for a month and buy a full new outfit for one of your resins?

    11. This is how I bought most of my dolls. Cicero (SwD Lucas) for instance, I bought because I'd gotten an internship as screenwriter at a game company. I already had the money, but waited for a special occasion to buy the doll. And Remo (my Willams) was bought right after I got my first job as story designer.

Giving yourself a doll because you've achieved something makes your doll (and the occasion) even more special. That's why I wait.

    12. I'm bartering with myself- if I pass my driving test first time I can get my next doll. As I have utterly zero spatial skills, not even a preliminary license and haven't even phoned up the driving school yet, I foresee it's gonna take a loooong while.

    13. I totally agree! My first doll, a littlefee, was the best reward I could think of for finishing my first book, I don't think I would have spent so much money on myself if it wasn't for such a special occasion. Now that I've finished my second book I'm rewarding myself with a minifee, a bigger doll since this was a bigger achievement. I need to set up some new goals so I can buy some clothes for the dollies now. ^^

I think it's important to celebrate your successes, both big and small ones, and what better way than to buy something you love?

Good luck Koitten, I'm sure you can do it! And keep dangling that Bisou on a string, it's much cuter than a carrot! ^^

    14. Haha, total yes for me. I actually just bought my incoming tan Miho as a reward for surviving the spring semester. Though it probably is a little wrong, considering i still have finals next week. :sweat (Had to make sure i'd get him, though.) So pretty much, i'm rewarding myself. For me its mostly a matter of having the money on hand, though.

    15. Actually, my LTF Leah is my goal for when I lose 70 pounds. *nods* .....Although that umm may change depending on some things....

    16. No... I tend to chase after LEs, so I follow their schedules & availability, not the other way around. So it goes! But I enjoy the thrill of the chase, in which the Getting can be as much a reward as the Having.

However, if the release/sale-period of a doll I want happens to coincide with an occasion for reward, that's always nice. My birthday is in late March, which for some reason always seems to bring several great releases at the same time, so I pretend I'm rewarding myself for surviving another step closer to the grave. XD But otherwise, no, I don't reward myself just for doing stuff that I'm supposed to be doing anyway.

(Wow...dolls for honor-rolls?? This is definitely a different world than where I grew up. Dad was a guidance-counselor so he didn't think he should have to bribe me. Hard case! My reward for good grades was to get into a good college & get the hell out of the house. ^^ Of course, we didn't have these thousand-dollar beauties back then. It was the Early Pleistocene Era, the earth's crust was still cooling around the malls....)

    17. I tried...!
My incoming doll was supposed to be a reward for whenever I finally managed to get a job. I had the money in a savings account, but I was going to get the job so I'd be able to pay it back once I got him.

Haha, that didn't last. Instead it turned into a "HE'S COMING NOW YOU NEEEEED THAT JOB, CRAP," sort of thing, 'cause I bought him way before I got a job.
(...as in, I ordered him about a month ago and got a job three days ago. But at least I got one? )

But he was definitely a motivation! Without it I probably would have continued to be disinterested and half-assed about it.

    18. It has been years and years since I first knew of the exsistence of BJDs. My family is very poor and so it was just not a consideration that I could just buy one. But then I graduated college and got a good job and had a 'ton' of money (i.e. not broke >.<) so I started seriously looking into purchasing one.

As part of my job I have to pass this professional examination, the Certified Public Accountant exam, which is uber expensive and takes over a year to take all four parts.

So, at first I said "Ok, When I pass part 1 on the CPA exam, I'll buy this doll".

Then, I bought the doll 5 months before sitting for the exam X_X lol. I really feel like I earned her though, (I did pass the first two parts of the exam) When I got that first passing grade, I felt really good, like I had 'kept my end of the bargain' and like she was truly my doll ^_^

So, as I begin studying for the final 2 parts of the exam, there may be a new doll in my future (I've already picked: Puki Pong Pong!)

Good luck to all of you, hope you achieve your goals!!

    19. My next doll is sort of a reward... in that I will be using the money I receive for graduation to order her. But the doll I'm saving for is far too expensive for any one of my relatives to buy for me, so I'll be pooling all my gift money and hopefully there will be enough to run a split for her (since I neither want nor need the fullset clothes). If I'm lucky there will still be enough leftover to buy my ebook reader. n__n

I can't often justify the expense of ordering more dolls, or even doll accessories. So I tend to wait until holidays and spend my gift money on dolls or doll clothes.

    20. My first doll was somewhat of a reward for me. I had been wanting one for years, seriously considering it for months.... and then finally got a note for Christmas this year from my parents saying I could order one, paid in full (it was a joint Christmas/ College graduation present). So I felt like I had kind of earned it....I made it through college and finally got my first dollie!

As soon as I manage to find a job, I'm sure there will be many more XD
