1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dolls as...Rewards?

Apr 26, 2010

    1. Was going to start a thread like this, but I found this one, so I shall resurrect it from the dead.
My next doll (Rosette Muse Fir) is going to be mine once I lose 15 pounds. I've already got the money set aside and it's taking all the willpower I have not to spend it yet :sweat

    2. My husband has promised me my choice of doll (within our means obviously) for my birthday at the end of the year. I guess that will be a reward for surviving 40 years of life? :)

    3. I bought my first doll as an early birthday gift for myself and a reward for completing a goal at work. I had finally finished scanning all the charts in the whole office. This took a whole year and I was able to save up little by little to get him. Now I have to scan more charts for another office. I think I'll order my next doll if I get good grades in animation.

    4. I think it is a great motivator. For me right now, the main motivator is balancing my budget well enough I can afford a doll. It is very difficult indeed! However, it makes it easier to go into work and to focus if I know that I am making money to pay for my dolls.

I also definitely plan on getting myself one as a reward after I graduate college, with my first paycheck when I get a "real" job!

    5. I don't think I could ever use BJDs as a reward...they're a bit too pricey for that, lol. If I want to reward myself for something, I'd probably go for a MH doll, which I also collect. But along BJD terms, I do consider accessories and stuff as "rewards." Buying Phinny a new hat, or going to buy new fabric for clothing, is much more manageable than a whole doll, or even a head. :)

    6. ....I finally nailed a job, and finally managed to save $1000 into my account....I guess I can celebrate with a doll. =)

    7. I think my "reward" will be the pride I'll have knowing that I saved up the money to buy my own doll.

When I first found out about BJD's, I asked my mom if I could get one for Christmas, but she convinced me that I would feel better about doing chores, odd jobs and finding ways to raise and save up money for myself.

It sounded like a "parent trick" to get me to stop asking for the doll, but the more I thought about it, the more I agreed in my head. I have around $350 so far in my BJD fund, and since I'm raising the money myself, my doll will be worth so much more to me and my accomplishment.

    8. This is something I have done with other dolls, but never with BJDs due to their cost. I would have to save up so long my reward time would be long over.

    9. Meep, dolly-buying isn't so much as an incentive for me, but I guess the methods in which I got a few of them were rewards in themselves? My first I saved up for for a loooong time (I did have a job, but it was part time / low wage / little hours since I was quite young), and I had to convince my parents to let me buy one - who still are a little edgy about the doll hobby even though I've been in it for 4 years XD So I suppose my doll was a reward for persevering? :D

I got a new job recently where I make (if I say so) really good money, so the doll I just purchased is kind of like a reward for my hard work at this job (9.5 hour shifts, late nights, but all fun really!)... :D Plus if you count from the last year and a bit, I lost a total of 43 pounds so this doll was kind of like a reward for that??

    10. Considering i ordered my first ever BJD just over a month again and i'm still waiting for her, yes the reason i bought her was because of an incentive. Me and my dad had a deal that if he paid for most of her i would get really good grades on all of my A Level exams, i have to get B's or above. Its such a good incentive to work even harder than usual XD

    11. My boyfriend told me he will buy me a doll up to $1000 if I quit smoking.....

    12. I've been wanting a boy doll to shell an original character in for a while and found the perfect sculpt at last. Right now I'm in the middle of a long battle to have bariatric (weight loss) surgery and decided I would buy him as a reward for having the surgery and getting started on my weight loss. It won't be until the end of this year, but I keep busy planning stuff for him so hopefully the wait won't be as bad.

    13. I kind of did that with my first dolls Ash and Sen - only it was a reward for my 60th. Imagine being 60 and only now collecting them. I keep thinking to myself who will get my babies when I'm gone?
Hopefully we will have a long life together.:D

    14. When I was a kid, my mother bought me a doll (not a BJD) when I went to the dentist. I made a huge collection...

Now I buy BJDs whenever I want (and I afford). I do not have to see my dentist any more. :)

    15. I've been wanting to get myself a Zoall Luv for quite some time now but I've told myself that I can't get one until I've done a few things;

      1) Sold dolls that do not get enough attention (I have 1 left out of 4, so that's nice. :) )

      2) Saved up for the Zaoll Luv on my own. No more layaway since it sort of kills the excitement for me.

      And

      3) Completed my upgrading through college. I'm not going to count the couple classes I'm taking through an online school though haha.

So far I've been working on these goals since September and I'm maybe half way through? The classes are almost complete. The dolls selling is almost complete but it's the saving up that's taking the longest since I'm not able to work much and all the money I've made from sold dolls has gone to other bills, which really sucks cause I could have afforded her almost twice over with the money I made. Oh well. I'll get there one day! :P

(Wow, there's a novel for you.)

    16. I think it's a good way to get things done ! xD
I've never really think of it as a reward, maybe I should try =)

    17. I got my first resin doll (my Dikadoll Mian Mian) as a self reward for passing a really tough exam. I already had the money for him, but I feel myself guilty for spending so much on a doll, so I decided to order him only when I had something important to celebrate.
The other two where ordered to cheer me up during difficult periods in my job. (We seems to be prone to cyclical periods of mass hysteria)
Now I decided to stop buying other BJD until my graduation thesis will be finished (and I'll get my master degree). I hope it will help me to carry on my work and complete it soon!

    18. Soul hunter Avalanche will be my birthday present for this year! :) I have to start a new savings plan for my next doll though!

    19. That would be lovely. I plan to reward myself some dolls if I worked hard and have enough money saved up. ( Not only for dollsl but also for my loved ones and my future)

    20. as way to get me to lose weight and to reduce the amount of rubbish I eat I have a money jar that I'm putting £2 a day in if I dont eat Junk and when i have enough money inside I can use that money to buy a doll, so its similar.
