Dolls in Fantasy Colors?

Oct 26, 2010

    1. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?
Since the ones I get need to fit in a certain story, it depends on the character. Most of them are humans, but there are some fantasy characters also who could work in more fantasy colors ^-^
Would buying a colored doll depend on your doll's character?
Like I stated above, yes ^-^
If you wanted a colored doll, would you ever try to dye him/her yourself?
N-no, not really ^ ^;;; I'm too chicken for that hahahaha!!
Do you feel that only fantasy-character dolls can pull off this look?
      Well...no? It really depends on what the owner wants the doll for? ^ ^;;

    2. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?
I'd say generally I do prefer natural-looking skin colors for my dolls, but I think it would be fun to have at least one doll made with different colored resin. I want variety in my collection--different sizes, both boys and girls, humans and non-humans, etc.
Would buying a colored doll depend on your doll's character?
No, not necessarily. I could be interested in a doll that looks nice and come up with a character/story afterwards.
If you wanted a colored doll, would you ever try to dye him/her yourself?
No. I haven't even attempted blushing or face-ups yet...I don't anticipate dying a doll any time soon!
Do you feel that only fantasy-character dolls can pull off this look?
I think having an unnatural color would automatically add an element of fantasy to the doll.

    3. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?
I prefer it. Mostly normal yellow or pink skins. White skin can sometimes be really really white.

Would buying a colored doll depend on your doll's character?
Yup. I have an Ice Princess idea floating around and she may be a light or pale blue or purple.

If you wanted a colored doll, would you ever try to dye him/her yourself?
I probably wouldn't dye myself. I've never EVER successfully dyed anything, so I'd rather just send the doll away to someone who has more experience.

Do you feel that only fantasy-character dolls can pull off this look?
I feel like any doll with a fantasy color (aka not ws, ns, or tan) is a 'fantasy' doll. I know that may not be the case in some people's opinion, but if it doesn't exist, it's fantasy. Now, if this question is asking if a fantasy character all dressed up as something fantasy-like can pull off the odd skin color, then no. People can have normal characters be purple, or whatever, but I still will consider them a fantasy doll.

    4. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?
It really depends of the doll that I'm getting. If it has fantasy parts, like elf ears or hooves or wings, than I'd be more likely to get an unusual color than on a human doll. I've got a little RS Pixiu coming in with dragon wings and a tail, and he's going to be sky blue. :D
Would buying a colored doll depend on your doll's character?
For me it would. I wouldn't just get a colored doll for the heck of it, I'd like to have some sort of idea what I'm going to do first.
If you wanted a colored doll, would you ever try to dye him/her yourself?
Right now, no way! I'm not experienced enough to do something that major, and there's enough colors available on the market for me to be satisfied with one I buy rather than one I dye. Who knows though, in the future I might end up wanting a doll in a certain color that's not for sale. You never know!
Do you feel that only fantasy-character dolls can pull off this look?
I think if the doll is going to be an unusual color, it will automatically seem "fantasy". They're kind of inseparable in my mind.

    5. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?
Only for the characters that are supposed to be natural skinned. Most of my fantasy characters need to be in white skin though. Even though white skin can be a perfectly normal skin color.
Would buying a colored doll depend on your doll's character?
Well, if I don't have a character I need in a particular skin color, but I'm in love with the doll, I'll make up a character. That's what I do with my tinies.
If you wanted a colored doll, would you ever try to dye him/her yourself?
No, never. I can't dye a doll without it ending in a disaster. I can only do the very basic stuff as restringing and cleaning.
Do you feel that only fantasy-character dolls can pull off this look?
Well, I would automatically assume a blue doll was meant to be fantasy.

    6. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?
Only 1/10 is fantasy coloured so yeah. ^^ I prefer white skin.
Would buying a colored doll depend on your doll's character?
      Yes, I see to that.
If you wanted a colored doll, would you ever try to dye him/her yourself?
      Maybe.
Do you feel that only fantasy-character dolls can pull off this look?
I've seen dolls without real fantasy-doll-look being red, green or blue. I think it depends on how the owner sees the doll. I only saw coloured dolls...

    7. Do you prefer natural looking skin colours for your doll?
Depends on the characters, I have mostly elves and some humans. Elves may be any colour I choose I suppose. I have white, regular skin and one grey skin. I would like to get one in green and one in blue.

Would buying a coloured doll depend on your doll's character?
      Yes.

If you wanted a coloured doll, would you ever try to dye it yourself?
      No.

Do you feel that only fantasy character dolls can pull of this look?
Mostly, you could have a blue character with silver poisoning (makes you blue skinned for life). But in my case it would be an Elf character so fantasy it is. I already have a dark skinned grey Long from ResinSoul dolls and he is a Drow.

    8. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?
Yes. All of my dolls so far are natural colored.
Would buying a colored doll depend on your doll's character?
Hmm...Probably, though I have seen some odd colored dolls that struck me as "If I could afford to be impulsive.."
If you wanted a colored doll, would you ever try to dye him/her yourself?
No. I'm too concerned about how unstable this can be, sometimes it's beautiful, but sometimes it goes horribly.
I'd prefer to leave coloring resin to the professionals.
Do you feel that only fantasy-character dolls can pull off this look?
Yeah I do. I don't think just fantasy sculpts can pull it off, but the general theme of the doll kinda needs to balance with the interesting skin color.

All that said, I'm not 100% sure if i'd ever buy a fantasy colored doll, if ever I needed to sand it or anything like that I wouldn't be able to without giving the doll more noticeable flaws.
I like knowing with natural skin dolls that if you sand them it won't be extremely noticeable.

    9. I started off my collection with a definite preference for normal skinned dolls but that has begun to change. All the dolls I am currently interested in are in fantasy colors for very specific characters.

    10. I prefer natural looking girls :) I can not imagine that I have fantasy colour BJD but I like other owners fantasy coloured doll :)

    11. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?
for my girl yes but I don't have a preference of any skin color really, it just depends on the specific doll
Would buying a colored doll depend on your doll's character?
if I had that much spare cash lying around sure, I'd love to have a purple skinned doll ^-^
If you wanted a colored doll, would you ever try to dye him/her yourself?
never! in most of the tutorials that I've seen about dyeing dolls they involve boiling water which I stay away from like the plague (and I'd be worried about burning/ruining her resin)
Do you feel that only fantasy-character dolls can pull off this look?
not at all, any doll can pull off any look with the right styling

    12. i prefer natural colours for skin. i don't think i'd do well with reds and greys, and i've noticed a few who don't know either. for some, it's just hard to make fantasy coloured dolls look good.

    13. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?
Generally speaking, yes I tend to favor more "natural" skin colors for my dolls. But it depends on the character really. As long as their is some sort of plausible reasoning for the skin tone (story wise) then it doesn't bother me.

Would buying a colored doll depend on your doll's character?
Absolutely. I wouldn't buy a say, purple skinned doll if I wanted the character to be a natural human. That would be silly. But I do have characters that have fantasy skin tones that are plausible, so I would of course like to have them in their correct skin color in doll form.

If you wanted a colored doll, would you ever try to dye him/her yourself?
Yes! I'm planning on doing that in the future actually.

Do you feel that only fantasy-character dolls can pull off this look?
Not necessarily, but it does strike me as making more sense upon first impression. But if done right, I think anything can work.

    14. If a doll has human ears then I get a natural skin tone, but if they have elf ears or the like I love the fantasy colors, especially light grey.

    15. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?

I don't have any odd colors, just NS & WS & various tans. I have a few fantastical creatures in the house, but they're all either white or tan.

I'd be into fantasy-colored blushing, though-- my Soom Vega merman is white resin with blue body-blushing, which I think is just right for a merman. I wouldn't like him as much if he were blue resin.

Would buying a coloured doll depend on your doll's character?

I suppose if I had a specific character who needed fantasy-colored skin, then I'd seek it out... but probably not. The candy-colored resin just doesn't do anything for me.

If you wanted a coloured doll, would you ever try to dye it yourself?

      No.

Unless I wanted a zombie/revenant/ghost type thing that had streaky, mottled skin with uneven patches of color.... In that case, hand-dyeing would be the way to go. But I have no plans for such things right now.

Do you feel that only fantasy character dolls can pull of this look?
Ehh, it all depends on the delivery. I've seen some fantasy character dolls who couldn't pull it off, either; just poorly-realized. On the other hand, I have a friend whose green Sprite girl isn't any particular fantasy creature, just a weirdlooking green girl who dresses fabulously in rainbow pastel Smarties colors; that works.

    16. I like my dolls white or in crazy colors!

    17. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?
Yes, I love natural skin, especiallywhite and pink.

Would buying a colored doll depend on your doll's character?
Nope. I do not give my dolls "characters"

If you wanted a colored doll, would you ever try to dye him/her yourself?
Nope, I think i can't make it XD

Do you feel that only fantasy-character dolls can pull off this look?

      Not really.

    18. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?
Basically, yes. However if we say about magic or fairy character, or natural skin doesn't fit for the forethought hero's image, than I buy a doll with unusual skin with pleasure.

Would buying a colored doll depend on your doll's character?
Of course. Doll's color is the one of the important components of doll's image.

If you wanted a colored doll, would you ever try to dye him/her yourself?
Never. Because I know that the result would be far more worse than firm's coloring.

Do you feel that only fantasy-character dolls can pull off this look?
Yes. Unfortunately, the most of my dolls are 'casual' characters excluding the Cheshire cat in mint tan. And I very like his unusual mint color.

    19. Do you prefer natural looking skin colors for your doll?
Hah, I defiantly have a lot of natural skin tones on my dolls, but I don't have a preference either way. It depends on the character.
Would buying a colored doll depend on your doll's character?
Ironically, it was the other way around for me! I absolutely fell in love with a bobobie pixie boy I'd found in a doll shop. He had been there for a very long time, so his light blue skin had naturally yellowed over time to this gorgeous mint green. I bought him on the spot and made a character to fit him. I love colored dolls, I think there's a lot of potential in them!
If you wanted a colored doll, would you ever try to dye him/her yourself?
oh goodness..Sometime down the road. I've seen some amazing self-dyed dolls, but I don't have enough confidence in myself to try it yet!
Do you feel that only fantasy-character dolls can pull off this look?
Nope! I think there's potential in everything, so a lilac human girl is just as beautiful to me as a lilac faerie!

    20. Personally I prefer the natural colored dolls, but that's only because when I look at all the fantasy colors I just realize that I wouldn't be able to work with it :(.
I'm too casual of a person! But I LOVE looking at everyone elses and seeing what they do with their dolls ♥ I definitely enjoy a good fantasy doll photo!
