Dolls with the same hair color as you?

Jan 8, 2011

    1. Actually, thought about it for a moment and realized my doll(s) and I could have matching wigs... I've worn/bought them for plays and for Hallowe'ens...

I feel like I should probably feel a little pathetic over how momentarily excited I was at that thought... or over the impending 'Mom, for my birthday I need two wigs- one for me and one for Vince!' (though the beauty of having a birthday that comes right before Hallowe'en is that I can ask for costume stuff... and, of course, wigs in my own hair colour.)

      =^__^=

    2. Anneko - YES I'm so glad someone sees the awesomeness of this. Last year I was changing my hair color every three weeks. Red to brown to black to platinum to pink to red again to teal to teal with black to orange to platinum to black to brown to rooster to purple and black to crispy crunchy tender flaky fringe... that's a lot of wigs, and not even all the different styles I do -.-
The style remained pretty much the same, though - short. And short wigs seem to be pretty rare... darn.

Once I see a wigmaker who can make a great Shawn Spencer AND a Johnny Bravo 'do, I'll look into this.

    3. I have blond hair, and for my doll I ordered two blond wigs. I think, it`s due to the fact that in school some time my friends call me "stupid blond", but I am studied better than them, and my friend (she is girl) call me "stupid" more than others (but as I know she is just envy to me, `cause I am prettier than she), and maybe, this is the reason, why I don`t like other hair colors, except blonde.
P.S. Sorry for my horrible English T_T

    4. I don't usually pick the same hair colour as my own. I like to have a variety of hair colours even for the same doll. I like to have options~

    5. The doll Im getting is going to have the same hair color as me but that's really just coincidence. I try to pick hair color more on the character I'm basing them from then anything.

    6. Yeah, I don't see a lot of variety in short wigs... Also, Shawn Spencer? WIN!

      =^__^=

    7. Ha! I had never really thought about it, but yup, more than half of my dolls have brown hair of one shade or another. My hair used to be brown, before I went almost completely gray . . . it never occurred to me that there was a connection between my wig choices and my own hair, but maybe there is.

    8. Do you tend to create doll characters with the same hair color as you?
Yes! I love my doll to be black hair. However, I like to have gold hair for my doll as well. :)
If the color makes it good looking, I would not mind other color.

    9. @Anneko

HECK YES, VERY WIN. LOVE Shawn Spencer.

Right now I look a little bit more like a blond Jared Leto (not Fight Club, just regular JL hair but blond), which is easy to wig, but I can'ttt standddd ittttt... gonna need a wig for this anyway. Dangit. Do they even make blond wigs with dark roots?

This project will be much harder than I thought.

    10. I dye my hair red a lot and I have a tendency to like auburn/reddish wigs, though my only doll (at the moment ;) ) has two white wigs and one blonde one so she doesn't fit that.

    11. Do you tend to create doll characters with the same hair color as you?

No, I like variety. I want all of my dolls to have different hair colors. If I only used one hair color, I'd grow bored of it very quickly. I'm a brunette, but I chose red hair for my first BJD's character (I originally went with blonde). I do want to make a brunette doll eventually. I love brown hair, it's why I've never dyed my own, but it wouldn't fit all of my characters. I want them to be very different from each other in both personality and appearance.

    12. Well I'm blond -and I've never dyed my hair- and so far I only own one blond wig. I had originally bought it for my boy, but after it arrived it was quickly claimed by my girl. While I like it, and it does look good on her, I have others that I like better. So no, personally, I don't think my own hair color effects the color of my dolls wigs.

My mother on the other hand loves the blond wig and is her favourite on my girl. ^^

    13. My girl came to me with blonde hair, which is what I used to have when I was a child. I quickly changed her hair to white because the blonde definitely didn't suit her. I am not sure that she would look good as a redhead either, which is what I am now. I am hoping to get a boy soon (or assemble one from parts) so I am not sure what color he would have.

    14. Funnily enough none of my dolls have the same hair colour as me o.O Mind you i think it would be difficult to find my hair colour in a wig. It's a deep honey gold, with copper and white blonde streaks through it, naturally. So the wig would have to be two tone at least... or to compromise just a deep gold.
My dollies have pink, white, red, brown and black hair so far :) no plans for blondies yet, though I've been thinking of my SD being a blonde when I get her.

    15. I couldn't. My hair color changes too often (like some of you all!) to really be consistent. I'd spend a bazillion dollars on wigs!

    16. I tend to go the exsact opposet in hair color! Im super blonde (so close to white that in pictures it looks white) and BAsil has black hair

    17. Do you tend to create doll characters with the same hair color as you?
Yes. (For the Doll that I do have and some future dolls.)
No. (For those that will have a doll embodiment in the later future)

      Why or Why not?
For the why part, I rarely see people in real life (not celebrity life although some can apply) and fictional characters who are suppose to have black hair due to their ethnic background have pure black hair. They have either dyed it, highlighted it (to the point where it is noticeable) or in the case of fictional characters, tinted it another colour that suggests black but is not really black.

For me, I'm a person who wants some form of realism in characters appearance wise, especially if said characters are suppose to be from a realistic reality. If someone said that said character dyed it, show me the evidence please. (E.g. I don't see Ryoma Echizen the type to dye/highlight/tint his hair GREEN of all colours or the type to dye his hair altogether. Only because he's the type to be focused on his tennis and being the type to not care what others think of him.) Fantasy I don't mind as much, they can have a rainbow pompadour for all I care and I still wouldn't mind because it's fantasy. XDDDDD.

So most of my characters whose ethnic background suppose to have black hair (in my characters' cases Chinese, Vietnamese, Vietnamese/Chinese, African etc) have black hair, very much like myself, the rest of my family and extended family (due to the fact that we are quite a diverse family with people from multiple ethnic backgrounds). Also because I'm a "conservative" and "boring" person that way XP. (Actually I just love black hair. ^ w ^)

For the why not side, it depends on my ideas for the character. If my characters are of different ethnic background, the type to dye their hair either because they are rebellious, they are bored of the colour, they find it ugly or are very 'out there' then yes they'll have a different hair colour as mine. ^___^ After all variety is the spice of life. Personally I'd love to see the (all seven colours) rainbow haired dolly/person that is not a clown, and pull it off.

    18. I guess I assumed everyone approached this the same way as me: I give my sculpt a face-up that enhances the qualities/features that made me fall in love with it in the first place and then find the wig that looks best on that sculpt regardless of colour. It's a question of aesthetics for me rather than trying to impose some preconception of character onto the doll. The only doll I haven't done this with is the Minimee head for my only male doll. It's a character I've drawn and written about for many years and while I wasn't 100% strict about how he looked, he was always tall and dark. I always tend to find dark haired men attractive anyway, so was obviously drawn to sculpts that would suit being dark. I don't even know who the mini-mee is supposed to be, don't care, that's not important to me, I bought it on the MP for the features and don't recognise it as any "celebrity" thank fully. Anyway, he's the only one of my dolls who I knew would be dark even before I found him!

    19. Eh...my hair is black, and only one of my dolls has black hair. Of my five, two are blonde, one is a red head [his character's natural color is brown though], and the other has green hair. I guess I go more for what I can't have. My hair doesn't go blonde, so that's probably why I have two with that color. I've got a floating head that I plan to probably also give green hair...

    20. I just counted. Well, most of my dolls have similar hair colour. My hair is brown with a reddish tint, and I usually dye it either black or red. But in the past, I had it blond, blue, green, purple, different shades of brown and red, and even zebra. I'd say it is difficult to find a wig color for a doll that would not resemble my hair colour at some point in my life. The two dolls with white wigs are the only exceptions.
