Dolls with the same name as you.

Feb 23, 2016

    1. My name is Julie (Julia on my birth certificate) and there is an Angel of Dream Juli and RingDoll Julia. I have considered getting both at one time, but when it comes down to it, neither really fits in my collection and I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a doll I don't love just because of her name. They're both pretty, just not my style.

    2. My name is Alexis and I don't know of any dolls with the same name as me. But I think it would be cool to see what a doll named Alexis would look like. Depending on what the doll does look like I might want to buy them as long as they're not too big or out of my budget.

    3. There are 2 dolls that I know of that share my name. Sadly I'm not too fond of either one. There is also a doll that shares my childhood nickname and while I would love to get that one, she was limited...maybe someday. ☺

    4. I would love to see a doll sculpt named Lauren :ablink: Or maybe Laurel? Laura, Laurent? Anything similar.

    5. * Is the doll a smaller version of yourself? She is me, like I represent myself in a story I'm writing
      * Why did you choose the same name for your doll? I couldn't chose a different name: it's like my dolls get one the first time I see them
      * How do you feel when talking about that doll? I usually just don't
      * Do people find weird when you talk to your doll using the same name as yours? That's why I don't talk about that Xd
      * Is your doll exactly how you want to be? Yes, perfectly
      * Does your doll look like you? A little bit

    6. I never thought of this before. A brief Google expedition has revealed that both Dollstown and Supiadoll have sculpts with my name, and my first impression is that they both look very... sad. Not much like me.

I would not own a doll that was styled to look like me. I wear lolita fashion, so I get called a doll enough.

Now if one of those dolls with my name happened to appeal to me greatly, I would get her! But she would be her own character, and I think the weirdness of saying 'this is my Supia [myname], [doll'sname]!' would wear off shortly. :)

    7. My doll does not have my name.
      * Would you name one of your dolls the same way as you? Why?
      No
      * Would you find weird having that doll?
      maybe a little.
      * Would that doll be a smaller version of yourself?
      yeah... poor thing.
      * Would you put your own name to a doll that matches the idea of how you want to be?
      oh that could be cool.

    8. I actually found a sculpt that shared the same name as me. Not my style but it was kinda cute.

I wouldn't name a doll after me or style it after me. It'd be too weird to have a mini me around, especially if I ever end up having kids since those are essentially going to be smaller versions of me anyway. Haha.

I'd prefer my dolls to have the ideal style/look that I'd never be able to achieve in person. It makes the whole customization a lot more fun in my opinion.

    9. I've seen at least two dolls with the same name as me: Doll Chateau Christina and Mystic Kids Christina.

I really did consider getting MK Christina. First of all I like how her outfit is associated with cats! She even looked like a mini me at the time because I had blonde hair and since she's only 27cm, buying her as fullset wouldn't be very expensive.

To answer your questions, I probably would never name one of my dolls after myself. I just feel like my name is for me, not my doll. If I do end up buying a doll that's already named after me, I wouldn't feel weird. I'd think it be cool. I'd most likely name a doll after a family member or someone I look up to if it represented the kind of person I want to be.

    10. This one's sort of weird for me. I don't own any dolls with my name, but my name is one that's pretty commonly used for fantasy-type or historical girl dolls. It's uncommon as a human name, but common among OCs and, therefore, dolls.

Personally, I get a little weirded out every time I see it. I know people have no way of knowing, and as I said, it's not a common human name, so I doubt they assume a lot of people would have it. I don't think I would ever choose to name a doll after myself, as that would also be strange. For the same reason, I don't have any OCs with my name. Maybe it's that worry about "self-insert" characters, I don't know.

I also wouldn't make a "mini-me" doll of myself, but that's mostly because I'd find that sort of boring. I'm just a regular person, after all. I prefer my dolls to be strange or off-kilter, or not even human. I can dress them in ways I can't afford to dress myself, or in ways I couldn't get away with dressing. Not necessarily because I wish I could, but because I can for them, if that makes sense. I am just one person, and while I could technically dress in all these different styles, I can't be 19+ people (some of them non-human) at the same time. That's what the dolls are for.

    11. Looks like my name is quite popular! Asleep Eidolon, Ring Doll, Sugarble and Iplehouse all have dolls with my name! Although none of them are spelled the way I spell mine :XD:

To be honest, while they're pretty and cute dolls, I wouldn't want any for my collection, nor would I ever name a doll after myself. I do admit though, I do have one doll, my Doll in Mind Robel who has a temporary natural face-up and temporary brown wig, and of all my dolls she is the only one (on 3 separate occasions) who has been said to look like me. It's a strange feeling because I DO find it very flattering and I've actually toyed with the idea of keeping her this way just because I've grown weirdly attached to this "mini" version of myself, even though her character will eventually require a white wig and silver and pink based face-up. I know that in the end she will become the character she's meant to be, but I can't deny that it's made me a little more attached to her than before.

    12. I am waiting on a boy that is going to be my oldest OC. He has been with me since I was a child and has evolved though many changes as I grew up. I may give him my middle name as he has lived inside me for so long and is such a large part of me.

    13. When I bought my MSD girl, I wanted to name her "Ceress" and make her fantasy version of me. Dreamingdoll Airi is even similar face-shaped and everyone told me, she looks like me. But I simply cannot. After about two weeks or month, I renamed the doll, because I felt weird, naming her my own nickname, which I use mainly instead my real name. (Even my fiancé and some relatives call me like that) So she is Isabelle, because I love that name - and she has different personality.

    14. I'm in the slightly less common position of having several names I'm comfortable with. I have a non-disordered form of Dissociative Identity Disorder (that is, I have it, but it doesn't cause me distress or hurt my ability to function, so it's not a "disorder"). I do have parts of me with different names that want their own dolls. They won't all get them, because dolls are expensive, but I'm definitely going to make at least one doll "based on me". My plan is for my first 1/3 girl to be a mini-me of my "self" named Neptune. She has a fashion sense that's totally out of line with what's in my human-sized closet, so I think she's excited to get to dress herself up in things she actually likes. :P

Dolls are a great way to explore different parts of yourself, even if you aren't in a dissociative situation -- we all need to feel safe when we look at ourselves, and dolls are a very safe and personal thing. I think a lot of people see their dolls as some piece of themself externalized as an object. That piece doesn't have to be "serious," it can be as "normal" as the part of you that wants to wear all the frilly lolita that you feel like you can't wear in your daily life, or the part that wishes it could be happy and have no problems when your life is stressful.

So I think dolls can superficially be nothing like you, including having a different name, and still have a little piece of you inside them. Which is super cool!

    15. I don't think any companies have a doll named "Christy" but Souldoll *did* do one years backed named "C. Sue" which is my first initial AND my middle name, and I was delighted. XD I really wanted to get her because of the coincidence.

I wouldn't name one of my girls after me, I don't like how inelegant my name sounds, especially since it's not a short or pet form, that's my actual legal name (thanks, Mom...) but I have a few dolls named with my go-to names for Edit characters and my Allister stole my log-in name from other forums. Oh, and I do have a boy with the masculine version of my name. :3

Oh, and I would love to get a little monkey-girl of some persuasion, since my life-long nickname in my family is still "Monkey." XD

      I like Mini-Me dolls, though, all in all. My Lagoon is unabashedly my little self. Just not with my awkward, clunky name. ^^;

    16. For doll owners without a doll that has the same name as them
      * Would you name one of your dolls the same way as you? Why?
      No, I wouldn't.

      * Would you find weird having that doll?
      Honestly, yeah, it would.

      * Would that doll be a smaller version of yourself?
      Ohohoho oh dear lord no.

      * Would you put your own name to a doll that matches the idea of how you want to be?
      Nope, nopety nope, no.

I don't mind if other people do it, but personally making some sort of mini-me would be so weird to me? I'm more than enough Mimi to put on this planet, I don't want to make another.

On the other hand, if a doll shares my name, or my nickname, I'm much more inclined to check it out. It's weird like that sometimes.

    17. There's an Impldoll sculpt that shares the same as me, and while I don't want to own the doll it makes me happy to think there are sculptors who use my name in their work.

I never really thought and having a doll with the same name as me, but now that I think about it would be pretty cool. If I were to have a doll who shared my name, it would represent a version of me I don't feel comfortable sharing with the world yet. It would be like a fantasy version of myself. She would where all sorts of fantasy style clothing, and would maybe have piercings and tattoos I'm too afraid to get at this point in time, maybe she'd even have extra limbs, because who wouldn't want to be a cool monster girl. Lol.

    18. I don't own a doll yet, but eventually I hope to own a doll to shell my steampunk character. While we don't share an exact name, hers is the root of mine. The guy I like has played in the same rpg with me and this character and sometimes accidentally calls me by her name. While it's kind of cute coming from him, I think it would be weird if it were anyone else.

For doll owners without a doll that has the same name as them

      * Would you name one of your dolls the same way as you? Why?
No, because it's awkward when somebody says a name that you are used to having only referring to you - because it's rather unique - used for someone else, let alone a doll.
      * Would you find it weird having that doll?
It's weird enough with my steampunk character, so I would have to say yes.
      * Would that doll be a smaller version of yourself?
Similar in some ways, because all my characters have a small part of me in them, but an exact replica of me in personality and/or looks - no.
      * Would you put your own name to a doll that matches the idea of how you want to be?
No because, as I stated above, it's already awkward enough having a character whose name is similar to mine. I don't want a doll or anything with the exact same name, even if the doll is the ideal me.

    19. For doll owners without a doll that has the same name as them
      * Would you name one of your dolls the same way as you? Why?
Nope, I don't think so. I have a pretty unique name (statistically there must be other people with that name but I've never met any, never heard of any nor read about any), so the ressemblance would be really obvious. This name, to me, really feels like it's mine only, it represents me, so giving it to a doll would feel... strange.

      * Would you find weird having that doll?
      Worse, I would hate it.

      * Would that doll be a smaller version of yourself?
I don't want to have a mini dolly me. My dolls are characters I create, and while I obvioulsy put a lot of me in them (some more than others of course), I wouldn't like having just a mini me, it wouldn't be interesting to me at all.

      * Would you put your own name to a doll that matches the idea of how you want to be?
Damn no ! What I like when I create characters is to make them imperfect. Since I already don't want a mini me, the idea of a perfect version of me would be even less interesting.

    20. For doll owners without a doll that has the same name as them
      * Would you name one of your dolls the same way as you? Why?
Meh, not really sure but I don't think it would bother me too much. I like my name and I think it would suit a doll.
      * Would you find weird having that doll?
I don't think so. In fact I have considered a couple of times getting a doll that really looks like me but I consider myself to boring to be put into a doll. So it wouldn't be weird.
      * Would that doll be a smaller version of yourself?
As I stated in the line above, I do not consider myself pretty or interesting so I don't consider myself worthy enough to make a doll out of me. Instead I would place in that doll an alternative me in another world.
      * Would you put your own name to a doll that matches the idea of how you want to be?
No. I want me to be what I want to be, I do not want to have my "defects" reflected in a perfect doll.
