Dollshe 28M discussion

Jul 25, 2013

    1. derilan85, but we went all round this exact same thing before when Orijean was released, with Mr Kim saying that he was done with the old sculpts and was moving in a new direction. Look how long that lasted. As has been said, no one can run a doll business on one sculpt, unless he has an independent income or is moonlighting as a stock broker.

    2. I've seen this new guy and i'm a little indifferent about him :sweat
Don't get me wrong the sculpt of the body it's amazing but nothing that would push me into the purchasing direction.
I guess that before i need to see piccies of owner as i did with ausley.
What seems strange to me is the complete change of concept from dollshe, i mean that ausley was clearly in line with the slender boys this one is a brand new thing.
The sculpt of the body to me refers so much to the ancient hellenic-roman sculptural style, not so much from MichelAngelo but maily from Riace Bronze heroes from the see.

    3. Completely agree with you about this, you have a really good point.I think that Mr DollShe thinked a lot before made this change, i love the new boy even if i completely understand others not happy about it.:)
MadamMauMau about joints i must admint i was surpriced that are the same of the old male line, i mean double joints at knee and elbows maybe an hip joint have helped him a bit, even at this stage i'm making simply assumptions basing on the pics we have seen.
About hip ball's shape i guess DollShe sculpted in this shape to fit into aestetics of Michelangelo's scultures-maybe it's just me but i see clearly some ancinets Romans and Greek art influences for the lower part of David body-, even i'm not sure maybe the ligth he seems to have two different thighs as expecially in the first pic back view the hip ball looks different than pics frontal view, don't know if this make some sense :sweat
I'm afraid about his balance as his shoulder line is wider than his hips, this make me worry a bit...

    4. There was already one open answer regarding David and the existing line.....
      ------
      "Dear disappointed,

People have different tastes and place different value on different styles. It is impossible to create something that can please everyone. We aimed to design a mature doll, and we are very happy with the outcome of this meaningful endeavor. We have gotten favorable reviews from many customers.

We will releasing a doll that is in our existing style some time next year. We will continue to diversify our lineup of dolls in terms of age group.

      Thank you for your feedback.

      Sincerely yours,
      DollShe craft"
      ------

So those wanting the older style probably should start saving up....LOL.

For myself, David will fit in with my gang of big Idealians and Iplehouses. :)

    5. I really don't like this doll for 2 reasons - he's too muscly for my tastes, and his head's so small it looks odd! Obviously many people are going to go for 'muscly' but I don't like bodybuilder types so not me. But surely I'm not the only one who thinks he's a pin-head? Michelangelo's David had a massive head, which probably wasn't very realistic in proportion, but it balanced the massive body aesthetically? Beautiful face though :aheartbea

    6. Personally, I like David a lot. The body is beautiful and his face isn't bland at all. (I love his nose and lips)
Bye bye, carefully thought out doll plans......
I hope they offer layaway, as the shipping for him is probably going to be excruciatingly expensive.

    7. I asked for more pictures.

His head is small but wigged would probably be okay. I remember when the EIDs came out....they were called pin heads.

As of June 3, 2013 Dollshe had layaway:

      * Layaways are available again

      Dear DollShe craft members,

We had temporarily discontinued layaways given the difficulty in record-keeping and scheduling. We have decided, however, to offer layaways again as we have been so many requests.

Our layaway plan is as follows:
1st installment (upon placing order): 30% of the total balance
      2nd & 3rd installments:¡¡Remaining balance to be paid over 2 months

Payments are to be made to our PayPal account [email protected]. Make sure you list your order number each time you make a payment. Please note that layaway payments cannot be tracked on our website. We will be keeping a separate record in our files.

      Thank you.

      Sincerely yours,
      DollShe craft

    8. I saw that, but with him making a lot of changes, I am hoping he doesn't discontinue it again.

    9. But Michaelangelo's David has a huge head because he was always going to be on a pedestal and he had to look correctly proportioned to people looking up. Photographers don't do him a service by photographing him at eye level or straight on. This resin David one will look quite, quite fine when wigged, I suspect :).

I'd like to see some close-ups of his face... I love what I can see so far - his strong nose and beautiful mouth - but I know that what put me off Ausley was her eyes. So I want to get a good look at those...

I agree, he's VERY muscular and for me that's not really necessary, but it's all the detail that blows me away. Those hands! Those feet! The plasticity of the muscle and veins! It's just amazing.

    10. I'm absolutely speechless. That's by far the most beautiful sculpt I've seen, up to date. The detailing, the texture of the veins, the muscles... I'm so glad he's expensive, otherwise I'd thrown all my savings on him, but I guess I'll be real envious once photos of him in face up and clothes start leaking out x)

    11. Oh great news about the layaway~

    12. Yes, it is the eyes that will make it or break it for me. At the moment, I am not optimistic. As he has such strong character in his face, you have to like the character that his face is projecting. At the moment, he looks to be a sly git who I would want to smack in the face. And the eyes don't look to be as realistically sculpted as the rest of him. From some angles, the face looks great. From others, there is something...unhealthy about him. I really need to see some good shots of that face.

    13. i feel that he is intended for those who are wanting a very much a muscle man who has manly look and he is just what i personally was looking for,
i can see the for and against for likes and dislikes it depends so much on what you personally are looking for in a doll.
to me im just wow he is fantastic and to me he would make the ultimate man for a period doll in combat like gladiator or medieval knight or plain simple a muscle man with a tight tee-shirt!!
i have the dollshe dsam body already and i love that body and everything but its great to have a different style and look too!

    14. I think I'm going to have to have him, I keep looking . . . . that body is just marvelous.

I wonder if I can put my iplehouse heads on it?

    15. He's amazing, his profile is divine and his body definitely has the renaissance sculpt vibe, he's utterly gorgeous. To me is a sculpture more than a BJD. I'm kind of sad to see the bishie look disappearing from the BJD world, I was afraid Dollshe would go the Iplehouse way into uber realism when I saw Ausley Love. I'm on the fence as to wether I get him or not.

    16. You can't make everyone happy. Doll sculptors are artists, artists need to create, they need to feel inspired. I commend Dollshe for taking this risk. He obviously feels confident to stop selling his other line of dolls and focus on this, and has every right to shift focus as he chooses. To compare a doll company to a food chain that changes its menu entirely is a bit much....it's STILL a doll, and you can always find them secondhand if you need the old fix. Dollshe has obviously been around for a long time, with breaks and changes in-between. This is simply another one ;)Yes everyone is free to their opinion and this is a discussion forum, but I find it sad some feel the need to tell dollshe directly they are unhappy...imagine how you would feel..think about it..something you worked hard for, to then be told it was disappointing?:|True he may not be as bothered by it as I'd feel, but still. And yes doll companies survive on customers, as most everything does, but to feel we are entitled in any way...ugh. No, sorry. Change is the only thing that has kept me interested in this hobby, I love seeing what's NEW, it inspires me. :D I like this new line, even though I have yet to own an EID or ID based on its size because, quite simply, it is a beautiful work of art. Cheers to companies that aren't afraid of change:aheartbea

    17. Dang, Double Dang! There goes the camera fund again! I haven't been this taken by a male since the first Soom Idealians.

    18. Oh man... I need more face shots to help me decide, but that body!!! My other dollshe boys will be sulking in the corner feeling inadequate about how scrawny they are in comparison. I love how slender my boys sre and I hope Mr Dollshe doesn't completely abandon his thin boys for the extreme muscles. But from an artistic stand point, I understand the decision to go in a different angle.

    19. Exactly, Lula78!

Hound was released in 2005. Husky, Saint, and Bernard were released shortly after (about 2006). Those dolls are about 7-8 year old designs! It's not surprising that Dollshe wants to move away from them and do something different. Dollshe has never struck me as 'business minded company'. He has always come across as an artist first, business second. I think shipping times have proven that time over and over again. And I don't think Mr. Kim isn't the kind of artist to simply pump out different heads every month like some other companies do just to turn a buck. Look how long it's been in between releases?

That being said, if he has decided to make a living off these dolls, the books have to balance at the end of the day. But from what I understand, Dollshe casts dolls for other artists and companies like Dollstown. So there is obviously revenue coming from there and really, who knows what other things Mr. Kim does to generate revenue? And really it's none of anyone's business.

I'm in agreement with what has been said previously ... I will bet that Mr. Kim releases his original dolls again in the future. He discontinued them once and brought them back. And now there are more Dollshe boys out there than there was when he discontinued them in 2008 which means, better chance of them finding their way to the secondary market place, at better prices.

    20. ragdollkitty I completely agree with you dear!Even if i don't find David that much of beefy surely he's muscular, but differently surely not in aestetic of body bulder or a kind of physique that a man could buld in gym.
Great to have a choice basicly ;)
elve David head imo looks just a bit odd in proportion not such bad, maybe it's the chiaroscuro, or simply this is a prototype doll and the final versione would be corrected, definitely i don't think that his little issue with pin-head should be directly related and reported to Michelangelo's David proportions. It would be like saying that wasn't wrong Mr. DollShe but Michelangelo,
thing that does not make sense to me, because even a few heads as Saint or Bernard imo were too small in proportion on their bodies. ;)
David by Michelangelo is perfectly proportioned if you see him in real, as Sigune mentioned it's a matter of look at him at eye level which is hard due to the fact that David is a huge statue, plus his hair are sculpted expecially to give volume that could create a visual illusion, but bottom stage the head of Michelangelo's David is not disproportionate. :)
