1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dollshe Orijean & DSAM 35s body release

Jan 17, 2009

    1. Now that I think about it, if I were to do a Vulcan doll, I would get this. I mean, the face? The height? The body? would be perfect...

    2. LOL! He certainly isn't coming round to my house, then!

    3. The English Dollstown ordering page says:
Does that mean people can't sand the seam lines themselves or run the risk of damaging the body?
I like sanding seams as part of the bonding process.

    4. That's what it sounds like to me :| I wonder... the aesthetics are not my cup of tea, but the posing is really cool. However, everything about it seems to work to restrict the customizationability (is that a word?) that many have come to expect with bjds. We can't switch out parts, we can't sand the seams - if the design goes further to restrict the swapping of heads & bodies, I wonder if it might actually work against Mr. 'Dollshe's' attempt to sell his new creation?

Just my 2 cents. Someday I still want my Saint. Just not 100% sure it'll be on the Orijean body...

    5. Oh I think it WILL work against his desire to market and sell the dolls. The doll has already not been embraced anywhere near the level that Hound was. And to feel restricted as to customization as well??

I suspect there would be people who, inspite of not really liking the body, might consider it, if they felt they could be comfortable sanding it and modifying it. If that comfort point is removed, those on the fence with this doll will probably avoid it.

If Kim Ki Young doesn't really care if this doll sells well, then that's all well and good. BUT, if he hopes to make a good revenue from it, I believe he's going to be quite disappointed next to the success he had with the Hounds, and Hound types.

    6. I can understand the "I don't want to be copied" motivation, but I'm one of those people who got interested in BJDs because they are meant to be customised. I'm all for cutting, sanding, drilling and whatever to make a doll right for me. I don't think I'll be afraid to take the body apart and sand the seams myself as I've done so many things with my other dolls, but I can't shake the feeling people are scared into not altering the body or else it will fall apart.

Maybe it's easier to judge how true that feeling is when the people who ordered one have the body and the parts in their hands.

    7. Let's not forget that when Hound first appeared the vast majority of collectors went "huh?" And that was that, for a long time. Even the first Bermann releases lingered on tensiya and could be purchased with a simple click of the buy button. Dollshe rather knocked the dollery sideways with Hound, too.

    8. Actually, within a month of Hounds release there were at least 50 of em being shown on this very board. Bermann originally was not embraced, people thought he was odd, even homely. But that was not the case with Hound.

If you go back to the gallery and look through the posts from 05, 06, 07 etc, Hound absolutely dominated the doll boards.

    9. Hmmm....that isn't my recollection, but you could be totally correct! I do know, factually, that the Haute Hound (an incredibly special and rare breed) which was sold as fullsets to HH magazine for exclusive sale NEVER sold out and eventually tensiya purchased the remaining Haute Hounds back and tried to sell them on their own site. :(

    10. I wish I could find the orginal "Waiting for Hound" thread (it no longer comes up on the search engine). It was remarkable just how manypeople embraced that doll and ordered him right away. It would be so interesting to compare that thread, to the discussion we have been having on the new dolls.

The Tensiya Hound wasn't all that popular because A. Those that wanted Hound mostly already had him and B. It was an expensive version when one could be had from several other sellers at $550.
and C. not everybody who loved the new Dollshe boy, was into LE Anu stuff

    11. It is interesting to hear that, gayle, and I can well believe it. And, it does make our heartily-expressed disappointment with the new bodies even more resonant. It is not a matter of aesthetic re-education. A doll is simply appealing or it is not and it would appear that this sliced loaf with legs is not.

    12. Heh. Actually, at the time, the concerns were exactly the same - an innovative, yet-to-be-seen, unusual doll that was nothing like other dolls available. Height, aesthetics, and at that time, the realism of the sculpt.

    13. The original Hound body was not all that different from the Bermann body, at least aesthetic wise.

This new body is a huge departure from the original Hound bodies.

I sure wish that original thread was still availible. I also searched the gallery looking for old Hound threads (there were a bazillion of em) but I guess most of that stuff has been removed due to storage issues. I can't find anything on a Hound search before 2007, and the HUGE flurry happened in 05 and 06.

Some are thinking "wow, what poseablity." I'm thinking, Flop this way , flop that way. I have serious doubts that this doll with be any easier to handle or pose.
I see many pinched fingers in the future.

    15. Yup, I remember the 05 flurry - I wasn't able to afford the V1 Hound when he first came out, and everyone went crazy for him. There was all the kerfuffle and concern when Kim Ki Yong went into hospital for surgery on his legs and there was speculation that what was meant to be an unlimited sculpt would end up being limited after all if Dollshe-craft didn't start up again - and then the V2 Hounds came out in September IIRC, and there was a mad rush on them - everyone was raving about them! My Marius was in the December 05 batch. :)

It wasn't until the second half of 2006 that Hound-mania simmered down, really.

    16. I got the V2 Hound and I love the way his body looks and moves, despite the infamous belly flop, I can deal with that, but this new body is very very interesting, so if you can't sand the seam lines, just how bad are they gonna be? Well for those that did order him, post a general description on everything.....I really want to know is this the ultimate in ball jointed dolls.

    17. They go so far as to put a "Watch your fingers!" warning at the bottom of the posing post. It kind of reminds me of a wooden snake, actually--I had a couple as a kid and they used to get my fingers on a regular basis.

    18. TensiYa Berman begins, February 12 2005:

      Sold out in 15 minutes.

First Hound announcement, April 8 2005:
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11752

Seems lots of people wanted him.

I do remember negative reactions to Bermann though, but these are the earliest threads I could find about Dollshe. It's obvious people had previous knowledge about Berman in the February thread, but that discussion may have been on the old Yahoo group.

    19. Good work Dezarii, thanks for finding those older threads. They definately show how much higher the excitement and acceptance level was at that time.

    20. I do remember people liking the Hounds...mainly cos they thought Bermann was too
'"grumpy" and Hound looked happier with his little smirk and they were more drawn to
      him that way. :)

I'm still inclined to keep an open mind on what Dollshe will offer in the future. You have
to remember, Dollshe is opening their own site -they're own shopping mall. I am
thinking there will be other body options available - more types. He's probably
working on them right now. I see this new body as a specific idea for poseability
that he had an idea on and worked out. He may very well go back, with slight
modifications to a simpler body that other doll enthusiasts (well most on this thread)
prefer. I mean, variety is good in a shopping mall...right? ;)
