1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dollshe Orijean & DSAM 35s body release

Jan 17, 2009

    1. I hope you're right Christy! While I like the body, I don't like that it can't really be customized or the possibility of getting your fingers stuck while posing him ^^;; I hope mr.Dollshe hasn't forgotten his fans and customers in his artistic ventures and that the shopping mall will offer more variety..

..oh, and some pictures of the dolls clothed, with a face-up, eyes and wig would be nice too. I'd like to see how that body looks with clothing on, and how the head-body ratio looks when he's wearing a wig.

    2. Well it appears my memory fails me. Heh. Intersting to note that the fanaticism did, eventually, shift to the Bermann. Still....lots of complaints about the body being unwieldly, too thin, and too tall.

I'm going to be watching with interest to see what Dollshe decide to do as the year progresses. I'm very thrilled to know that I've definitely got the orijean/SA orijean coming home regardless!

    3. Carrie (TinyBear) and I started Houndcalling in April of 05, and I remember being quite surprised that by August 05, we had 200+ members. ALL of whom were either Hound owners, or anxiously awaiting their Hounds arrivals.

Sure, there were gripes with the infamous "Dollshe slouch", and as the V2's began to arrive there were compalints about the "biting" torso joint, and the larger shoulder hole, but again, the complaints were NOT about the asethetic of the doll. We ALL thought he was beautiful. This new one, sadly, is not eliciting that response.

I do agree with Christy, that maybe just MAYBE, this body has been designed specifically for the Origin head. In which case, GREAT. However, IF it is the new Dollshe standard body, those of you who like it will just have to understand how deeply disappointed in it the rest of us are.

I'll remain hopeful that another "standard" body, with more human heads WILL be offered.

    4. Can't really say without seeing the doll in person of course, but I would think that you should be able to sand the external seams, which are the ones that are visible without affecting the poseability and functionality of the joints, such as along the arms and legs and the larger parts of the torso. It wouldn't make much sense to put seamlines through or on the joints/sockets from a production point of view, especially since half the dolls (the tan and ebony ones) can't be sanded at all.

Perhaps they are simply putting these warnings in place so that we are aware of the possibility and can decide if we want to risk it or not, if we feel confident enough to tackle it. With the above statements in place, nobody can turn around and say "I sanded my dolls seams and now it doesn't work properly, please send a replacement".....

    5. They may also be stating this to cover the darker resins too. I know I wouldn't want to touch the seams of those colors if it meant ruining the beautiful color of the resin.

    6. It can sound crazy, but I like Origin, is strange, but I think it can be a beautiful doll. Is really interesting to see "new" and "strange" things in the BJD world. I'll wait to see owners pictures. ^^

    7. I think he's rather wonderful. I unfortunately can't buy him at the moment, but love him for his strangeness.

    8. I know I pre-ordered a V1 Hound and there were definitely plenty of people waiting for one with me.

Now I'm definitely hoping that the Orijean head and this body are a complete set, and that we'll be seeing more mundane, standard bodies and faces at a later date. Like someone else said, Dollshe does have to fill the website with a wide variety... right? :sweat

    9. I like the body.
I also feel that the "warning" is because the body isn't meant to be shaved in areas (to make him shorter, etc) as that will distroy his ability to function as a complete unit. So sanding should be fine as long as you do not change the shape of internal features.
No sueding either, I would think. No kips.

    10. Hey Christy, I agree that this could be a definite possibility. I like the idea of staying open to new ideas by artists. Seems throughout history, ground breaking artists are always seen with contempt by those who want to cling to the status quo. LOL! Yeah I 'know', everybody has the right to their 'own' preference in doll aesthetics, but it's refreshing to me to see an artist like Mr. Dollshe Ki-yong willing to take a creative vision, make something new, revolutionary, different, and innovative.

    11. That...that is just...I have no words for that photo. I like the body, but *that* is just freaky. Looks like he'll have fantastic poseability if someone figures out how to work all those joints but he also looks like he could be an absolute nightmare to work with. Maaajor flop potential.
The freaky posing ability is making me like him more I think. I'm *still*seeing him as some kind of half-skeletal angel of death. Oh, for one of these boys in BW with grey blushing and a pair of jointed hands and maybe some tattered wings....*nngh* must resist...

    12. QFE! My thoughts exactly!!! I would liken this new body to something like a Haute Couture fashion show from a trend-setting designer. It's not something that most people could wear, or afford; but down the line it will provide inspiration and be re-interpreted by other designers into RTW and functional street wear styles for average people.

Berman & Hound were the first 70cm BJDs out there, and now look how many companies have followed in Dollshe's footsteps!!

I would love to see this innovative, new body and jointing type to inspire some of the other companies out there to reach for the sky.. it feels like the hobby and almost everything new that has been coming out has been unoriginal and uninspired in terms of jointing.

As an artist, one does get bored with completed projects and have a constant desire to create something new, and better than the last project. Art is first and foremost about producing something after ones own mind and vision. Obviously Mr. Kim does not consider this doll to be a cash-cow, and he is not the type of artist/company that goes out and surveys potential buyers about what they'd like to see in a doll.

I'm not going to pretend I know what Mr. Kim is planning, but I would urge people not to expect that he will create a more human/realistic body for the other heads that we have seen previews of. You might be pleasantly surprised if this does happen, but personally I would rather not set myself up for disappointment.

    13. I hope some of the ideas in this body ripple through the doll-community in the future too. Maybe not all of the ideas put together..... but I think that butt joint has a lot of potential! :D It looks like it could eliminate the upper thigh jointing that lots of companies have now. Though I have a feeling that in pants, the poor doll might have "plumber's crack" of tragic proportions. ;;>_>

    14. Wait his arse cheeks move?

    15. I was unconvinced until someone mentioned turning him into an "angel of death"... and now i must have one! I want the saint plate tho, so i'll be waiting for that, and for some money to fall from the sky, but i definately want one!
Oh, and it sounds really pervy, but i love the way his bum moves  it seems so natural, i pity all those other dolls with stationary rears

    16. We can hope.

    17. I'd want to get one, just so I could have ultimate slouch and pose.

I love the originality, and people who just want to buy sculpts to show of the chest will be shown what amazing poses this boy will be capable of.

Mr. Kim is amazing. And I hope he continues to make his original dolls.

EDIT Also, am I just stupid, or are Tensiya still selling what they have for sale on their site...? Or what?

    18. I wonder how the girl body that is mentioned a while ago will look. My guess is that it won't be as muscular so there's a good chance people won't be put off by it as much as with the boy body.

The jointing structure interests me. Can't wait to see how Mr. Dollshe will apply that to a girl body and who knows, it may be a good body to mod into a boy. ;)

    19. I will have to wait until I see actual owner pics but so far I am not fond of the segmented body and the rib cage

    20. first time i've seen this body my reaction was "meh"...
but when i saw the posing pictures, i went enthusiastic :D and the orijean mold is perfect for one of my characters.
i have some more important character to make in doll form, but i will surely buy this doll someday <3
