Dollshe Orijean & DSAM 35s body release

Jan 17, 2009

    1. I've handled one of the Ariadne dolls, actually (someone had one for sale at a local meetup)! She was a 60cm-ish sculpt, and the only parts of her I didn't like were her knees - THOSE needed some refining. Otherwise, though, she seemed like a great doll. I especially liked her feet (I have a pair from the company, but they sent them to me with only one ankle ball for the two feet, so I've never been able to use them :...(), and her neck jointing was very interesting.

    2. Wow the body is just horrific. I don't really have words I will defiantly have to let my dreams off for my Bernard.

    3. Kiyakotari~ I have one of the 60cm ones and she's definitely interesting. I have the 27cm too, which is the one Orijean reminded me of. Obviously they are quite different, but that's the only other resin BJD I can think of with that many torso parts.

      Edit: a couple more pics.
      splits
      arms

I wonder if Dollshe's terms will apply to other dolls with few spherical joints too, or if other manufacturers are going to go in a similar direction.

    4. I got him too E.~ :) The joints are pretty much doing what I'd hoped- the neck is
cool how it bends forward and I like how he curls into a ball. I plan to have him
clothed mainly, so aesthetics of the joints don't really bother me - it's all about posing
with this one. However, I'll definitely be taking some study shots of him in the nude
when he arrives to illustrate the range of movement as I interpret it. I'm having 'visions'
beyond what I'm seeing in the promos and that is what is so inspiring to me.

    5. hmm... I'm VERY impresses with the poseability of his body, but in my eyes, I can't help but think that torso looks a little... bug - like. especially when he bends... it stands out in those wierd lumpy ridges :( It IS a feat of engineering BJD - wise, and I can see the appeal he holds for some, but not for me I fear.

    6. Fascinating!! I hadn't ever seen photos of the 27cm one. She's really interesting - I especially like the clavicle-joints.

    7. While I can appreciate the engineering, this...segmentation is repulsive to me on a visceral level. Like looking at a human cockroach or something. There's just nothing natural about the curvature of his body and I can't imagine that even clothing would hide it sufficiently.

    8. hmmmmm, *scratches head* i just don't know what to think..... genius engineering?.... innovative styling? ....... pioneering new frontiers in BJD?...... doll as art form?
part of me is thinking nah, no way! but then some "small" little voice is telling me to be opened minded and wait.......

    9. In the pic of him curled up, it seems like the whole thing would balance if there was one fewer segment before the legs. Like, the butt pieces were on the piece above the one they're on. Both in terms of proportion and in natural curvature.... I think it would look more normal.

I think he's fascinating. I'm not in the market for a 70cm doll, so my opinion is a moot point... but he is really different and alien. I love the range of available skintones... those darker ones are amazing.

    10. I was holding out for the posing to be wonderful to help me look past the body, but seeing him pose I can't look past those joints at all. The bodies horrible, it looks unnatural.
Unless dollshe brings back something similar to the old body then I'm certainly not parting with money to bring one of the new dolls home.

    11. I think I'm torn on this doll; The body would bother me less, I think, if the definition of the ribs/muscles/etc weren't so.. CUT. A bit smoother sculpting would do a lot towards making the joints less harsh, I think.

I want to see pictures in clothes to see how naturally poses can look before I make my final decision.

    12. well i love his arms and legs, and well, the middle is growing on him, he a perfect repitile creature ahem, but yea normal humans being back just doesn't do that...-.- so i'm half and half, but i'm sure he post wonderfully...i might get him, i been wanting a snake to add to the family :) but got to sale other boys first...cash is low....

    13. Those pictures of him all curled up remind me of something right out of a horror movie...It's almost Lovecraftian... I would be horrified of this doll unless he had a thick sweater covering all of those terrible ridges 24/7. I am hardly ever shaken by dolls. I'm one of those notdoll lovers, but this body just strikes me as creepy, like it would slither and twist right out of the box. :horror:

    14. The posing pictures make me want him even less. I agree with everyone who said he looks like an insect or alien. He reminds me of a sea creature too. I'm really not seeing what the benefit of these extra joints is. The curved back could be achieved with a 3 piece torso. Plus, he couldn't wear anything lighter than leather/vinyl/upholstery canvas, those back joints would pinch and shred most fabric!

    15. Unlike most people here, I am more excited about the prospect of eventually owning a Bernard than I was when I first saw the body. I think the posing is extremely cool, alienesque or not. I find it quite impressive.

    16. Does anyone know when the other faceplates will be available? Though I really like the body, the Origin head isn't really my cup of tea and I'd love to see the other faceplates..

    17. Ello, just subscribing.... I followed the last part of the thread forever and would like to continue.

My two cents... there's something to be said for giving your fans - the people who love you and support you no matter what, to speak nothing of pay your salary (cause that's totally not what builds loyalty) - SOMETHING that they would like. Just sayin.

    18. Lobster.
That's the word I used to describe him to another doll friend.

I was sorta ok with the over developed muscle structure...thinking a lightly padded bodysuit would make his tight clothes work...get a saint head...
then I saw these curled up alien pupae pictures and
      just no.

I can hardly make myself look at them

I am all for posing improvements but dang, they gotta be pretty too.
Decorative yet functional is my perfect doll.

I wonder if the hands will be available separately?

    19. I'm still not too happy about the body. I liked the old one better.
Though the idea of the better posability does appeal to me. I guess he's just have to wear clothes all the time to cover those horrible joints.

    20. I saw you under the order page Christy XD
I am so into him... but the price is just ways to high for me now... maybe I will get him some times this year............ :(

LOL! my friend said the same thing XDDD
