1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dollshe Orijean & DSAM 35s body release

Jan 17, 2009

    1. so are heads going to be available separately?

cause I absolutely hate how this body looks :/ wonder if the resin would match dollmore..

    2. Hmm. If you look at him slouching from the front, like the "Until the very day..." picture, the torso joints do make his slouched belly look more realistic and good... but seeing the slouched pose from the back, in the "Get up and come to you" picture, the back seems to jut rather oddly D=

      ...and I don't think a doll that, um, gets up and comes to you is necessarily a good thing o____o *crawls under desk* but I'm sure they don't mean it literally...heh...hopefully ><;

But it seems that the people who do like him really like him, so that's good, I'm happy for them ^^

If he had not told us, I never would have guessed that the origin of the name "Orijean" was that ._.

    3. Ouch! It would be ironic if all these precautions were foiled by such a simple thing.

    4. Wow~Orijean is a total work of art!...I am in awe of the entire concept...the possibilities with this guy are endless!....I love him......he is a photographers dream!....My wallet hurts......

      xen

    5. I don't think its SO bad anymore, I'll just have to come up with a really clever outfit he'd have to wear all the time...like an Edward Scissorhands-esque body suit.*g*

    6. :nosebleed Yes! That's just what I like about it!

    7. This is exactly it for me now. I'd been interested in what Dollshe would do - when I saw the unnatural ribs and plate-like abs, I was already turned off. But these new pictures have brought it to a new level of just outright repulsion. Now not only does it look inhuman, but its inhumanity settles right smack in the middle of the insect kingdom. I can't even stand to look at pictures of bugs, much less own a 70cm one.

Even if a standard Bermann came on this body, I think I'd have to pass.

    8. i think it either you love him,or your hate him, i in fact, love the unique quanity of the guy :)

    9. I kinda wish Orijean had pointy ears, as he'd make an awesome dark elf.

    10. I think he's gorgeous and so want this boy. Love his poseability and uniqueness from the rest of the doll world . . . and he can wear clothes to hide the abs. LOL! Only thing I'm not crazy about is the faceplate, but I will definitely be getting one sometime this year!! :sweat

    11. I can appreciate it technical achievement in posability and engineering, but like others I wish Dollshe hadn't sacrificed external aesthetics. I mean, we mostly collect dolls because we have characters to embody inside them, or we enjoy the characterisation and 'personality' aspect. This new body has too much of a sterile feel to inhabit a human character so easily.

And I don't think some of the outer sculpting details affect the posability, so that part baffles me too :? (why shoulderblades, whyyyy)

He would be brilliant for some characters though, so I'm interested in what people will do with him.

    12. You know... I'm finding myself intrigued. I can definitely understand the very visceral reaction mentioned before... but that very unnatural quality fascinates me too. I don't know if I'll get one... I still have a lot of dolls on the wishlist before I could get to him. But I'm mighty tempted to buy one and do something unusual, that complements and plays up the alien nature of the jointing system.

Then again, my doll crew is rapidly growing into a strange and motley collection of mythical and fantastical creatures... I think Soom ruined me for life. Now I see something strange and go "ooooh... neat! Want one!"

That being said, restringing this boy is going to be a nightmare. :sweat

Though I do miss the good old "average" Dollshe bodies, and I wish he hadn't done away with them completely... I understand his motivation for doing so, but it's kind of sad to think that such a longtime popular standby in the BJD community is discontinued.

    13. We've got our rather small intimate waiting room going! :)

You know for me it's never about the clothes - I want this amazing creature lounging about in his all-together. SUPERHUMANRESINANGEL! That's what I see!

It's a relief to see that all the articulation is actually going to be about articulation!!!

    14. For the record, I think if this new doll got up and came to me I'd melt into a puddle of warm and gooey joy. ^-^ I would be happy if my resins started moving....but maybe I'm weird. xD;; Also, the new body fascinates me. I would LOVE to be able to hold it and play with it. But, I'm waiting for the new Saint-like faceplate before I decide if I'm getting one. My favorite picture so far is the one where he is laying down curled up. He looks so sad and forlorn..I just want to pick him up and give him a hug. This body has started to grow on me. xD lol

    15. I am TOTALLY NOT singling you out - but this is a good summation, imo, of some of the negative response we've seen to the new doll. I just don't get this sentiment. There are the original Dollshe dolls still available on the secondary market - to revisit something that had already been done, even with the intent to improve it, would be far more discouraging than seeing a true doll artist flex his sculptural muscles and bring us something that we just have not seen to this extent yet in the dollery. Standing still is translated into stagnation - Dollshe have leapt far far ahead into the creative aspect of the doll form and I, for one, applaud this boldness with my money and my continued support as fan of the artist.

There are plenty of softer, less articulated dolls available. I would like to see innovations, creative expressions, unique approaches and above all, highend artistry. You may not be drawn to this doll in an aesthetic way, but there is no denying the HUGE amount of work and thought and engineering that has gone into this innovative body!

    16. Except as a few others have shown that other artist who did something similar, only not as finished. I've seen a few action figures jointed this way only perhaps not to this extreme, I agree.

However I have to say the origin head is really nifty and I love his weird look.

I think Feeple did more with extending articulation and movement while keeping a beautiful surface than Dollshe. But as beautiful surface is a matter of taste and we will no doubt agree to disagree on the exterior of Dollshe's sculpt.

True, but I think the people who enjoyed his previous work were hoping for additions to that popular previous work. I'm sure many people had reasonable expectation of a product similar to what they loved and wanted for themselves and are quite understandably dissapointed at the vastly different direction the end work has taken.

No There's definitely a great deal of work in this, I agree. But simply because there's a great deal of work involved in something doesn't mean a design is a success. If nothing else those gaps and sharp edges are a finger eating hazard, not to mention the havoc they will wreak on clothes.

Although I have to say that if he was sculpting for strong reaction he's certainly achieved a big success there. This sculpt definitely provokes strong reaction.

    17. Agree. Completely. And I'll even add the amazing Volks SD17 to that list.

Oh, I understand, completely. The disappointment is a palatable thing in these threads. However, we need to also acknowledge that some of the dolls we love so much in this hobby are created by artists and in ateliers in which returning to product already realized would be a kiss of artistic death. I am truly relieved he did not return just to improve on something already done. It takes....a kind of trust in one's own worth, I would think.

If the dolls don't sell, then he might have to rethink his committment to this unique offering...or perhaps he won't. I am not familiar with the level of his dependency upon dolls for monetary support.

    18. had these dolls come out a year ago, they would have been cutting edge.

but in the last year, we have seen leaps and bounds by soom with their monthly dolls, feeple with their pukis and littlefees, dollmore with their glamor models, iplehouse with their EID bodies (in fact, they have those same butt cups to allow for increased movement) just to name a few.

i have no doubt that mr. dollshe is very creative - but there was just so much... expectation on this release that i know for myself (and it sounds like many others) - it fell flat compared to what has come out else where...

i fear timing may have been a negative factor in this that no one could control.

    19. I'd be afraid of chopping my fingers off between all of those joints. Ouch.

    20. I'd actually really look forward to a girl version as well, especially since I really liked the afghan body. My only complaints towards it were the saggy breasts, and too thick neck, but otherwise she's just the girl I've been looking for...so hopefully the new version will be as nice...probably insect woman, but oh well.
