It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dollshe Orijean & DSAM 35s body release

Jan 17, 2009

    1. And they've all accomplished it with an eye towards artistic beauty as well as engineering excellence. I don't doubt that Mr. Dollshe exceeded himself in sheer sculpting talent, but he's certainly created something that I can't imagine would be nearly as successful as his Hound/Saint/Bermann dolls.

To be fair, I really like his legs. But that's it.

    2. I'm....conflicted. I just...don't know! I can see why some people who appreciate more aesthetically pleasing styles would be horrified by this body. And I can agree with that. It's not a very "human" aesthetic that he has going on.

On the other hand...... he fascinates me. Truly. The way it moves and poses just makes me all happy inside. This hobby has seen many dolls that are not "human" Mermaids and centaurs and succubus (oh my!) I like it just as it is... I think.

Plus, I adore the Orijean head! :D

    3. Miss_Pygmalion, i agree with you, i keep going back and forth, although the scaliness of the body is very strange, there is something appealing about something so unique looking, i have a feeling that the Orijean head with a face up will have a haunting beauty.

    4. The more I look at this body, the more potential I see. But hearing that there will be a female counterpart makes me go all warm and tingly inside. I have ideas... boy, do I have ideas. :)

    5. You took the words right out of my mouth. The more pictures of this body I see, the more I have apprehension about it, because it is leaving the realm of "ball joint doll" and moving into "weirdly jointed action figure."

I like my dolls to look halfway decent without clothes on. If I wanted maximum poseability but-it-has-to-stay-clothed, I could just use a bendable wire armature. I always loved the early Volks girl torso sculpts because the sculpt is so lovely even though it is not the greatest or even a good poser.

I don't see why he couldn't have done something on the order of the Pukis for poseability, only with a bigger doll. Or why if the point was to have nice poseability but pretty joints, he couldn't have done something along the lines of Twiglimbs' and Donn's work. The only way this works for me is if Orijean is not a "human" doll, which means that the body is going to totally not fit with all of the other Dollshe human-looking faces.

At least I still have my old Dollshe boys and right now I'm very glad. This whole thing is bugging me because Dollshe boys were what got me into this hobby, and I hate to see such a radical change. It's like an actress that you always thought was so beautiful went out and had radical plastic surgery. Maybe she's still a good actress but...

The original Dollshe dolls are discontinued and to some extent hard to come by. I don't think that everybody who wants one is going to be able to easily get one. It's nice that you and some other people like the doll, I am on the fence about it myself, but I can totally see how some people are disappointed with it. It goes back to the discussion about whether this is "art" or an "item for sale". Customers loved the original Dollshes, bought them in droves and missed them when they went away. This product is very dissimilar to original Dollshe. Mr. Dollshe essentially got rid of a lot of things people loved about his work. I find that rather a discouraging bummer, whether or not his new vision is somehow moving the doll world forward.

    6. The joints are amazing, now I see why the abdominal sec is designed that way

I cannot wait to see owner's pic

    7. I like the originality of the new body, but then I'm drawn to new and interesting design concepts. I like the whole look of it. The posing is a little interesting and I think I may have to watch getting fingers jammed, but I'd certainly be interested in purchasing a Bernard/saint version of him eventually. I don't like the present Alien face, but I've always been more drawn to reality sculpts for faces. I think it's going to be hard to tell what people think of him until the other sculpts are released.

    8. I'm a bit put off by the elongated aesthetic, but I love the posability. I hope to get my grubby hands on one of them.
I don't like the "alien" head, though I probably will eventually get it. Very asian looking. I'll wait to see some face-up first.

I want the other heads more. So I'm waiting till then. Plus I got a Soom md. Must find money for DS doll.

    9. i must say i love the shape of the body but i dont care for the butt lol. but i think every thing else is great.

    10. Has anyone asked Mr. Dollshe flat out if there will be variations of this body? Like with Soom you can select fully jointed hands or non jointed hands.
Seems like it would be a pretty smart idea to me, to offer 2 types of bodies. You know, in the options drop down menu on the order form you can select "Snake" or "Human" And I don't mean offer the old bodies; the same body just less segments.

    11. We have it from the horse's mouth that the heads will be available separately and there are plenty of good resin matches (see threads on Dollstown resin). Yes, it would be horribly ironic if we all went out and bought a Dollshe head, just to stick it on a Dollmore Model boy body! Poor Mr Kim! All that hard work for nothing. Anyway, it waits to be seen if it possible to hybridise as the neck piece looks totally different, with an apparently magnetic part. Come on first lot of Orijeans! We want to see your heads on a Dollmore Model boy body!

    12. Agreed! If the heads work for other 70cm bodies then I can get my hopes up again for having a Saint :...(

    13. I'm sorry, but I am really freaked out my that curling pose. He looks even more insectoid than before. I am sure the whole doll is really innovative and all that, but I just don't think it's for me. TBH it makes me feel a bit sick.

I was so looking forward to the new Dollshe and as of yet, I'm quite dissapointed. Hopefully, for some of our sakes, he will be doing other bodies anyway in the future and we will all be satisfied.

    14. If the heads are going to be sold seperately, then I don't think people should be anxious about the new body. There are plenty of other bodies out there that look nice and will look nice with a Dollshe head with or without modding.

IMHO, the old body also wasn't that great. (Please don't throw rocks at me. ;) ) My Saint has been in his carrier for several months and a few days ago I got him out and right away I felt I should get him a different body.
At least the new body has nicer looking legs. XD

You can say a lot about Mr. Dollshe, but he's not a sellout. ;)

    15. Oh the irony of that statement!!

But you know, I think you are going to see alot of that sort of thing. This isexactly what I have planned for my floating Hound head. I may well wind up using a DM body for it, though I am considering the Spirit Doll body.

There seem to be very strong feelings regarding this new Dollshe work. Very much a love-it-or-hate-it sort of stance. And I agree with bunnydots, that this new body is comletely without the elements I find appealing about the original Dollshe bodies, and the way it looks in that curled in position is REALLY unnerving to me.

More power to those who are embracing it, but it is most definately not for me.

    16. I like it....insectoid alien and all. I will still hold out for a second-hand Hound or Husky (if I'm lucky) but I am totally looking forward to new owner pictures. Can't wait to see what some of the more talented photographers and customizers do with new boys...:) (Imagines all sorts of neat reptile-creatures and aliens.....;))

    17. Man, it looks like I'm going to have to start scouring the secondary market... I don't like this at all. I loved the old Dollshe body :|

    18. I hadn't even seen the new photos until right now. :aheartbea I'm speechless. His mobility is phenomenal.

    19. I would be dead surprised if Dollshe hadn't already anticipated the head-switching possibility. Perhaps he will only sell faceplates? And the head back will be sold only with the body?

I'm a bit saddened that I may have to return to the static hands - I'm wondering if the soom hands will fit on this new style of strung doll.

    20. We're going to hit 1000 posts on this topic on the first day it's open, at this rate.

I'm still conflicted about the body, now that I've seen their posing pictures. :?
Mr. Dollshe did retain the cute "Dollshe slump" that my Salubia got with her one joint, and Hound with his two, and I adore that back curve.:D
But I pinch myself in joints quite enough already, thank you.

'Course, Zagzageal is going to pose her guy in some amazing photos, & his very oddities will be Features rather than [sorry] Bugs. enabler

I can see this guy as an alien quite bewildered by this strange world he finds himself in.

And I prefer other face sculpts to Origin/Orijean.

It's still pretty theoretical at this point.
