Dolly Cross-Dressing

Sep 11, 2007

    1. a] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing?

I went to highschool with a few cross dressers and dolls have personalities just like people so... no if thats their personalities then it's okay.

b] when cross dressing how far does one go? Does one leave it to feminine clothing/face-up? or does one go all the way?

Thats up to you and your dolls personality. Are they crossing dressing because they like it? Because they want to be more feminie? Or because they want to be a woman (which doesn't make it true cross dressing but were getting psycological here)

c] Is it wrong to post pictures of your cross-dressers?
Browse deviantart.com I watch several people who have cross-dressing or VERY femine male dolls. If your little cross dresser makes you happy, then photograph him away. Some people will be offended but :-P on them.

    2. This makes me want to do a 'Annie Lennox' doll while she was not exactly a cross dresser she was very masculine in dress structure.
And what is wrong with younger cross dressing? Beautiful is beautiful and if you are happy then who is anyone to judge!
Funnily enough I complemented someone last night on their beautiful girl.. only to get a PM saying "Thank you!! but she's a he.." oh I turned so pink! She was extremely nice about all my embarrassment!
So pictures are okay too! But now I will not assume that this vision of loveliness is a girl!!!

    3. Considering I have a doll that cross dresses....
      A. I don't believe its wrong to picture the doll cross-dressing even if it is underage.

      B. I go as far as faceups/clothes.. but my chiwoo (Ame) also has a garter belt, thigh highs... just no bras lol (otherwise I'd get a girl)

      C. Saying its wrong is discrimination, and to me its like saying you can't be bisexual/lesbian/gay or be from another religion.

Edit: As for why I have a cross dressing character (actually I have 2 but..one wont be a doll) is probably due to certain issues and insecurities I have with myself, but its all good!

    4. Even though I don't see why you would want a cross dressing doll, I personally I do not have any problem whatsoever with it, it just doesn't make a lot of sense.

(apologize if the rest of this doesn't make any sense, I am having a hard time articulating what I actually mean by this)

The reason why I don't get dressing your dolls this way is because people who are actually transgendered or are cross dressers (not always cross dressers) would very much prefer to be of the opposite sex as outwardly as they feel inwardly. So why have a doll that dresses like the opposite sex not just get a doll that is of the sex that doll's character wishes to be? it just sort of seems like a mocking sort of thing to me, to those people who have to deal with something in the real life on a daily basis.
Of course this all depends I guess that is just one side of the story.

    5. But you have to remember not all cross-dressers are transgenders or anything of the sort. There are countless different reasons why someone would want to cross-dress. Also, alot of dolls are based after characters, and if that character is a transgender but has no way of physically changing their gender, then I think it would make sense to have a doll of the gender in which that doll's character was born.

Also, you have to remember that these dolls are also a basis of fantasy and escapism for alot of people, so they might not really want to have their cross-dressing doll in line with true to earth situations which, in my opinion, is perfectly acceptable and I don't see why that's so questionable.

    6. I think I understand you to say not all cross dressers want to be girls? If you meant otherwise I don't believe every cross dresser wishes to be a female (or a male if it is a girl cross dressing).
Maybe it could happen, but I am inclined to think a cross dressing doll isn't going to be taken as mocking a transgendered person. And I do feel for people who find their selves in the wrong body.
Cross dressing boy dolls do not appeal to me either but that is just my perspective. Now that I think of it where are all the cross dressing girl dolls?
Didn't anyone watch Revolutionary Girl Utena?

    7. People give their dolls personalities if crossdressing is in their personality then so be it, i find nothing wrong with it personaly, i dont belive it is done to mock or harm real life crossdresers or the transgendered. i belive it is all part of the artistic nature of the BJD.
A good of this is Hiritai's old boy Puffin. He was adorable in all his frills and dresses. I knew he was a boy and never even thought twice about it. I just loved him.

    8. alot of my characters are lady boys that dress in femine clothes and pretend to be girls. so it figures that alot of my dolls will be the same.
like others have said i think its fine as long as there isnt a sexual theme. if there is then it should be posted on another board (like controversial doll)

    9. I'd like to raise my hand for a moment and point out that terms like "cross-dressing" do not purely refer to feminized males, and it's been driving me nuts for a while that every single one of the debate and discussion threads that reference this topic/question (and there are several) focus exclusively on that aspect of the phenomenon. What about the female dolls who dress exclusively as males, or are in other ways intentionally masculinized? I know there aren't many of them, but they are present on the boards. I can think of several.

    10. This is a good question, and the labels for people in the transgender community often get misplaced. Crossdressers can be male or female, gay straight bi, but they don't want to be the oppisite sex and they dont want change there body at all. There are many reasons for crossdressing, the fact the boys clothes are very dull in comparison to girls clothes is one, the fact girls have a much bigger selection of clothes is another.

While I dont want to put my life story on the boards, it is not mocking, I think the transgender community would adore these dolls (not just the cross dressing ones) and appreciate the levels of acceptance for them.

edit : Kiyakotari this is very true, I know a few female crossdressers and female to male transsexuals

    11. :doh Have been reading all the things that have been said about cross dressing dolls. I think that is the key word here, dolls. I am dressing one of my boys as a girl simply for the reason of wanting a girl that does not look like she has had breast implants and looks more like a 10 to 12 yr old. I know there are some out there but have not been able to order them at this time. So my boy will be a girl until I can. No thoughts about transgender or anything else in that area. He will be a boy even though he is dressed as a girl. It is not like he will be going out into the public and advertising the "secret underneath". I love him no matter what.:love

    12. So what if your doll's character IS a cross-dresser? Why would you dress him in traditionally male clothing, if that's not what the doll's character wishes to be?

Wouldn't dressing him in male clothing be MORE of an insult to cross-dressers?

Let's put on the Devil's Advocate Power-Suit for a minute...

You know what's a 'mockery', by your logic? Girl dolls in frilly pink dresses. There are straight females out there who don't want the traditional trappings of femininity. If they dress any differently, they have to battle people's perception and disapproval every day in their lives. They struggle every day to be taken seriously. Then they see some doll in five miles of hoopskirts with ruffles and baby shoes and a widdle bonnet. Or, they see some bigtitty glamour doll in hiphugger jeans and a see-through halter top and slut lipstick. Those dolls are a burlesque of femininity; isn't that insulting to the viewer's womanhood?

OK, I drew a somewhat extreme parallel on purpose. Point being, it's dangerous to assume that you can ever know what any group or class of people is thinking or feeling, if it's not a group you're already a member of. So why bother tailoring your doll to please someone else's audience, instead of your own?

    13. As I said "not necessarily cross dressers". and I also said it all depends and what I had to say is only one side of the story and your statement happens to be the other.

    14. Did you actually mean cross dressers would be more offended by a male doll who is 'forced' to dress as a male? Oh...probably not.
But I think I know now why my elf looks so melancholy when I put the Renaissance dress on her. It's blue and frilly and puffy and girly.
Seriously JennyNemesis, your post made me laugh (but not at you)
Anyway, I hope, and admittedly it is probably wishful thinking, no group or sex or whatever is so keen for offense they go looking for it in the doll world. There is more than enough in reality.
But I do get your point.
As a guy, I think women in suits can be hot (this isn't helping. is it?) I also think girls in frilly dresses are hot. Guy in a frilly dress has to be really pretty tho...
Let's see...I live in a fairly rural area and it seems to me attitude plays a large part in how a woman is perceived, and if she is taken seriously, and often this is irregardless of dress. At least outwardly guys do respect competence, whether the woman is wearing a suit, or advertising her assets.
However, I am not a woman, nor one who wears a suit, and I have no idea what they deal with every day. Getting way off topic here.

    15. I really think this is a funny question. When I was a child I had a teddy bear I used to put dresses on, now this same teddy bear had a male name and used to hug and kiss my other teddy bear that was most definitly male. So, when I began to grow up (and got to know that there was a universe aside from mine :o) I realized I had a crossdressing gay teddy bear. Ofcourse when I played with my gender defying teddy bear I didn't even know what sex was, I most definitly didn't know anything of sexual preferences.

a] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing?

Really young children might not know what crossdressing is. Why shouldn't a boy get to wear as pretty clothes as his big sister (and girl clothes are generally more glamorous). I hated dresses and loved boys clothes when I was little, I don't think that made me a cross dresser. So actually I think it's more normal if the doll is under 7 rather than over 21. As for teenagers, the whole thing about being a teenager is defying stereotypes and figuring out who and what you are. So no I don't think it's wrong.

c] Is it wrong to post pictures of your cross-dressers?

I don't know what DoA's policy on cross dressing is, but I personally think there's nothing wrong with it. If a boy doll thinks dresses is prettier than suits or if a girl doll thinks vice versa doesn't really matter to me. If they are interesting I'd look at them anyway.

    16. a] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing?

I doesn't see it wrong. I also would encourage schools to give classes to understand these issues. If a doll transvestism is considered immoral we do with the owners? stoning? Please! We live in the 21 st century! Thae, one of my dolls, is a boy and dresses like a girl. And if someone finds it unethical I do never mind. As a saying in my country: A foolish words fall on deaf ears. (A palabras necias oidos sordos)

b] when cross dressing how far does one go? Does one leave it to feminine clothing/face-up? or does one go all the way?

In the case of Thae will go as far as she wants .. for the moment I made clothes, but I'm doing calculations to pay the sex change operation... Thae being born man, but his soul asks me being a woman. How far to get there? As far as I can go to see her happy.

c] Is it wrong to post pictures of your cross-dressers?

      Of course not. Never.

    17. my friend crcoss dresses her Xi all the time.....
but for some reason he always looks angry...???
      go figure??? O_o XD

    18. a] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing?

I personally don't even see ethics being involved in this. I mean, maybe if it was religious clothing or something..but just crossdressing? nope. Its just fashion really.
I didn't think I'd have a crossdressing doll. I never intended to. One day I tried some barbie clothes on my bambi boy just to see if they'd fit and well..he looks so cute in them!

b] when cross dressing how far does one go? Does one leave it to feminine clothing/face-up? or does one go all the way?

I think it would depend on the character that the doll represented. If the character would wear all the underwear and such as well, then go for it. If they would only say, wear a skirt over their boxers, then its fine to do it that way. Do whats appropriate for the character, not what you think other people want to see.

c] Is it wrong to post pictures of your cross-dressers?
Not all all. I love showing off my dolls..all of them. My little boy hasn't appeared really crossdressed yet on DoA, but he will in the future. As long as the subject matter is appropriate for DoA (doesn't break any rules) post all the pictures you want!

    19. Hear hear!

    20. This question seems to be based on an assumption that there is something ethically questionable about cross-dressing. I'm not understanding that. It's just clothing. I don't understand what it has to do with age, ethics, morals, etc.

If you're talking about, for example, a male doll as a character that wants to be female, and dresses as such (ie. going beyond just fashion) - again, I don't see whats ethically questionable about that and how age has anything to do with it. Its about the same as asking, "Is it ok to show pictures of your girl doll dressing like a girl?" Of course... why would it be an issue? What exactly is the potential problem?
