Dolly Cross-Dressing

Sep 11, 2007

    1. I've dressed my Petite Ai Gabriel as a male character because I didn't have a boy doll the right size, plus I thought her face looked close to what I visualized the little boy's face.

My 1/3 scale Naruto doll- he's a Souldoll Double male
My 1/3 scale Sakura doll- old style Customhouse Ai girl with Obitsu Haruka head
Saori- Customhouse Little Jr. girl (Saori is an original character of mine from my NarutoxSakura fanfic- their oldest daughter)
Ayane- Happydoll Becky (Ayane- younger daughter from my fanfic)
Haruki- Customhouse Petite Ai Gabriel (Haruki- NarutoxSakura's son from my fanfic)

My Gabriel is now 6 year old Sakura Haruno (6 year old Naruto is a B&G boy)

With tinies especially, the gender of the dolls can be pretty fluid.

    2. Clarda, this is a debate thread where we're discussing the possible moral implications of cross-dressing dolls; it's not a general discussion thread for posting pictures of your own dolls or characters.

    3. I was on topic- just giving my own example, as I said in my post: "With tinies especially, the gender of the doll can be pretty fluid". As good debate form- I was backing up my point with an example. In other words it's not a moral issue for me. It's not one with adult 1/3 scale either, they are dolls and belong to the person that dresses them. If they want to put an obviously male doll in a frilly, poofy Victorian dress that's cool with me.

    4. I personally think it's a little strange. Especially how I've seen quite a few people dress their boy dolls up in hello kitty and skirts and stuff. I mean really.. Just buy yourself a girl doll.

    5. I believe this has already been discussed earlier in this thread... if people wanted a girl doll, they'd buy a girl doll. As it stands, they want a boy who wears skirts, so they have one. Is it also strange for men in real life to cross dress?

Personally, I don't care what other people do with their dolls. It's not immoral in any way... I have dolls that cross dress, but I also have ones that don't. And yes, I also own a girl doll. It's all about the owners' preference and in most cases, including mine, what the doll's character is. Even if they don't have a character of their own, it's the owner's choice. If it makes them happy, then let them do it. Seriously, some people worry way too much about what others are doing with their dolls!

    6. I did, she likes trouser suits and my boy is still in those hello kitty skirts, so guess that "strategy" failed huh.

    7. So then should human men who feel more comfortable wearing women's clothes from time to time (not thinking they should be women, just enjoying wearing women's clothes) automatically go get a sex change and start taking female hormone supplements? I hope you're not going to start making the same argument in regards to homosexual dolls.

The nice thing about dolls is that we as their owners are able to give them rather realistic personalities which includes oddities like boys enjoying dressing up as girls or vice versa. It makes the doll's character more dynamic and unique. Why should we not allow our dolls to express 'risque' topics that are very much a fact in real life? Gender norms are all well and nice, but the world would be unimaginably boring without though quirky individuals in society.

    8. On my opinion many child dolls are pretty androgynous anyway, so they can be either. What comes to the adults, its everyone's own choice. I don't judge people who like to crossdress so why should I judge dolls or their owners for it. I really don't think anyone is as mediaval as to say women cannot wear trousers, so why shouldn't men be able wear skirts, kilts or dresses? I've seen more disturbing things worn by both people and dolls than boys in drag. ;) Besides, beautiful boys in feminine kimonos is a part of Japanese esthetics that created the ABJD in the first place.

    9. I don't like girl dolls, can't bond with them at all. All of my dolls are based on original characters and I have very few female characters for the same reason. I just don't feel like I understand them or write them particularly well. Some of my boy characters are more effeminate, and so if I own them in doll form the dolls will be as well. Though none of them actually cross dress, a Hello Kitty shirt would not be out of the question. I have two children, both boys, and sometimes they wear Hello Kitty T-shirts too. My youngest son's favorite color is pink, my oldest son has long hair he likes to wear in pig tails. It is just who they are. They also both love dolls, as does my husband. I wouldn't dream of trading them in for girls, nor suggesting that they should be girls because they like some things that are considered "girly".

    10. This is something which always urks me why is whether or not I choose to put my boy doll in skirts anyones business but my own, I understand the issue becomes more complicated when I or anyone else post pics because then you are asking for feedback but if someone doesn't like it they don't have to look at it I always make sure that my threads are appropriately marked and thats why there is a back button. I just think dolls are a creative outlet and give people the chance to explore all sorts of different characters and so what if there are more cross dressing dolls to non or homosexual dolls to straight dolls. Maybe it is because issues like that still have a certain taboo for some people that makes them interesting characters to explore, I really can't work out why people take issue with what people do with their dolls for me it is no different then a drawn or written OC I just except the dolls owner has the right to create any sort of character they like and if I don't like it I just move on and would expect people to do the same if they didn't like something about my dolls.

Well thats my opinion I hope it isn't too rambly

    11. a] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing?
I find it a bit stupid. If you want to dress your doll in girls clothes then just have a girl. I mean if you have a male doll who completely looks female then w/e thats better than some muscle man in a dress. If the mold is young looking like a little boy and he's wearing a dress then okay I mean he's a kid and little boys are cute no matter what. I guess it's just the older looking dolls that creep me out if I see them in long pink hair and a bikini.

    12. Nope. A girl doll in a dress is not even close to being the same thing as a boy doll in a dress-- a girl in a dress is just a girl. Yawn. Serves a TOTALLY different set of purposes.

Friendly N00b Tip: Avoid using blanket-insults like "stupid" in an open debate on a worldwide forum that contains thousands of members who like different things than you do.

    13. ...

A very good friend of mine owns an adult male doll who has long pink hair and dresses in women's clothing. It is an integral part of his character. He doesn't look like a little boy. He looks like an adult, and that is how he's supposed to look. He's a beautiful doll, too, and his character is very deep and very intricate. Just buying a girl doll...? Pointless.

Just because you find that sort of character not to your liking doesn't mean that nobody should, or those that have characters that fit that mold ought to change them to being girls because they should 'just buy a girl doll'.

...and frankly, now that the idea of muscleman in a dress has been floated, I would LOVE to see an EID as a full-on drag queen. LOVE. IT. Someone make this happen.

    14. When I save up enough for an EID Chase, consider it done.

Btw, etoilecourante, it's alright for everyone to have their own opinion, but can we please avoid discriminating against an entire lifestyle? I know we're talking about dolls here, but real live people do this too, and calling something 'stupid' or saying it 'creeps you out' really shows your intolerance for an entire group. I have friends who cross dress, and hearing comments like that break my heart because they're very sweet guys.

    15. MadamMauMau has already done it - she put her Akando in a ballgown.

    16. OMG!i would definitely like to see more of him~LOL!this kind of cross dressing is just:aheartbea~

    17. That is amazing and full of <3

    18. Uhhh lol. I never called any specific person stupid. I just said the idea is a bit stupid to dress a male doll as a woman. I don't care if you do it. I would never do it. Also I NEVER said anything about actual people. Dolls and people are two complete different things. I've known people who cross dress too and I don't care. You guys are taking my OPINION and flipping out as if I am targeting one of you. All I said was I don't like manly looking dolls in womans clothes. I don't care if you do it. I personally don't like it but, it's not my doll you do w/e you want with your doll. I personally think if you want to dress a doll in dresses you should just have a girl. I am NOT discriminating I never said anything about people JUST dolls. Sorry if you guys are offended by what I have to say but, thats what I think. I am not calling the people who do it stupid I am just saying that dolls that have a completely masculine mold look a bit silly in girls clothes. I'm repeating myself a bit but, I think I made my point somewhat clear. Again sorry if you take offense to the word "stupid".

    19. And a crossdressing boy is a just a crossdressing boy. Totally never seen that before. Yawn.

Seen many dolls that do. Seen many characters that do. Haven't seen so many real people that do but maybe they were so good I just didn't notice. It's not so "OMG that's so unique and rare!" you know... (Sorry, I just couldn't let that go.)

Honestly though, I don't really mind crossdressing dolls (or people). Do what you like. If it looks good/entertaining, all the better! I would actually think the younger the doll, the more acceptable it is. Kids can be ambiguous and you can play with that.

I'm more annoyed at owners that insist that you immediately identify the correct gender like I can read their minds or something. But that's about owner attitudes rather than the principle of crossdressing.

    20. In general girls are curvy and boys are square. Putting a dress on curvy frame will cause the dress to hang one way, vs if it were put onto a square/male frame. Part of the fun of cross-dressing a doll is being able to convert the male square frame into a more curvy female looking one. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but part of the fun is the challenge (atleast that's what I find fun). Just as there is a challenge in finding the right eyes, wig, face-up for a doll/mold. Some poeple care about it, others don't. I have a male doll that cross dresses, and it's so much fun because I have female clothes that he will fit that some of my female dolls do not fit.
