Dolly Cross-Dressing

Sep 11, 2007

1. I think people are much too uptight in the stereotypical gender roles and expectations.
I think dolls should be dressed as you wish just as I think humes should dress in what ever they find comfortable.

Is a woman in a suit cross dressing? Is a man in a kilt?

I have seen some of the most beautiful people in the world dressed other than their stereotypical gender norm and they look heavenly.

Just my opinion...

2. I couldn't agree more.

3. a] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing? No. They're dolls.

b] when cross dressing how far does one go? Does one leave it to feminine clothing/face-up? or does one go all the way? It's up to the individual.

c] Is it wrong to post pictures of your cross-dressers? No. Not wrong. I think it's funny when people post their boys dolls in dresses and then complain about how people never realize that it's a boy, though. Because of course people will make that mistake.

4. I'm not sure whether or not this part even counts in this conversation, but the next doll I plan to get will be a transgender girl from the victorian era. Because she is living at a time before surgery became available, she will have a male body. However, I would consider her to be crossdressing if I saw her in male clothing from the time period, and have not crossdressed any of my dolls (just because it wouldn't suit their personalities).

As far as the questions go:
] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing? No, people of younger ages crossdress either for fun or to express themselves. Sexualised images of children - regardless of clothing or gender, are wrong. but kids dressing up and having fun is a good thing, as long as no one is getting hurt
b] when cross dressing how far does one go? Does one leave it to feminine clothing/face-up? or does one go all the way? It's whatever feels right for the owner of the doll - these things happen in reality to different extents, and not everyone has the same view of crossdressing - like I said, if I saw my girl in boy's clothes, I'd consider her crossdressing, even though she's on a male body.
c] Is it wrong to post pictures of your cross-dressers? No, of course not, regardless of whether it is for fun or for part of their personality. I guess because most people want their crossdressers still called he, I'll have to explain many times that my girl is a girl, but I don't mind that! The dolls (and their characters) belong to their owners, and they probably care a lot about how they dress them - be it for fun or for a more serious reason.

If you want to crossdress your dolls, have fun with it!

5. I love this! He reminds me of a man I know from Renaissance fairs. He is a big muscly "man's man" of a guy who looks absolutely stunning with his gorgeous long hair and corsets. I always tell him how jealous I am of how beautiful he is.

6. a] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing? Uh, no. >>;; As long as it's not pornographic, it's all right with me.

b] when cross dressing how far does one go? Does one leave it to feminine clothing/face-up? or does one go all the way? Depends on the character, IMO. If a boy "wants" a girly faceup then that's his prerogative. :U

c] Is it wrong to post pictures of your cross-dressers? Noooo. Once again, as long as it's not porn, do what you want! The fun of this fandom is the creativity!

Behold, as I make the exact same point as a lot of people. :|

I don't as of yet have a crossdresser, but I'm planning on having at least one. I'm a fujoshi, so yeah I think boys in dresses are cute. (Lily Hoshino manga is my guilty pleasure.) But tomboyish girls/girls in suits are awesome as well. We need more of those. XD

However, I realize the idolization of overly-feminine males in this fandom can be unrealistic. I respect/support the happiness those in real life with gender identity...things, and don't expect anything like what I occasionally read about. Fantasy and reality are different things, obviously.

tl;dr I'm a rambling little idiot fangirl, but I realize people have different reasons for things. But I still sound like an idiot. OTL

7. I completely agree with you; I am often so gobsmacked by people who get offended by the different characters of mere DOLLS that I shudder to think how they must view real human beings who won't wear the straightjacket of rigid "normal/mainstream" society. I cannot, for the life in me, see why wearing certain clothes matters one iota in real life let alone on a sculpted lump of resin!

8. a) Personally i don't think it's unethical it's actually quite cute to see young doll boys dressing as girls but i can see some, probably close-minded people, finding it unethical
b) How far someone goes is up to the person themselves, i guess, and how they feel comfortable with it i think it also depends on how feminine the doll looks
c) No it is most definitely not wrong if a person finds it unethical they simply don't look i personally find these pictures quite sweet and artistic :)

9. a] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing?
No, I don't think there's any wrong in that. Cross-dressing doesn't necessarily have to be associated with something negative or a sick fetish. To me, it is like viewing beauty in a different light.

b] when cross dressing how far does one go? Does one leave it to feminine clothing/face-up? or does one go all the way?
It can go anywhere from your doll (or your human self) wearing a cute lolita dress and still look like a man (usually pun intended); or your doll having feminine features (but still looks like a male at some point) and wearing a dress looking like a complete girl (e.g the cross dressing jrock scene has many xD)

c] Is it wrong to post pictures of your cross-dressers?
Definitely not! It is just a form of entertainment and enjoyment for all. Unless your photos are meant to portray extremely sick and non-ethical ideas.. >.<

10. Why is it that a boy wearing girls clothes is such a big deal. There are very few places you can go where girls aren't wearing at least something that was traditionally considered boys clothing. I find nothing wrong with crossdressing, whether the crossdresser be male or female. I have no problem with it being in a sexual context either, so long as it isn't forced or violent(though I do think anything sexual should be posted on a personal website where there are appropriate warnings and filters).

a] No. As everyone has said, just about every little kid plays dressup. I've also met several little boys(under the age of 9) who greatly prefer wearing skirts as opposed to pants. There is nothing wrong with it so long as they are not being forced to wear these things.

b]There is no "too far" when it comes to crossdressing. They're just clothes, wearing certain things doesn't mean that someone is gay or is sexual, so it's not something that can really go too far by anyones ethics or morals. Also, there is a difference between a feminine guy and a girl. Some people find what would be called "feminine features"(what makes something feminine or masculine is entirely in the eye of the beholder) on men attractive because those are the features they find attractive, but they have no interest in girls.

c]It's only wrong for boys to wear dresses if its wrong for girls to wear pants. So, no. Not at all.

11. For me there isn't any problem to cross dress dolls.........o.O
I did it once or twice with my doll (who is a boy) and I think it's funny!
All is depening to the way the dolls are. And over all, they are dolls, and we can dress dolls how ever we want...

12. a] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing?

I have no idea if this has been brought up yet, and I apologise if that is the case, but there was a time when young boys were dressed as girls until a certain age or criteria were met. It is not at all uncommon to find older photographs of brothers and sisters all wearing skirts.

If you were going for a period look for a doll that was young (especially tiny sized dolls) it would be completely appropriate to have them dressed in girls clothes, and even a little odd to have them wearing boys clothes at all.

13. ^ This.

Jaszi's character formerly worked in a factory shortly after being rescued from the circus. Now she does clockwork freelancing. There would have to be disguises, so no doubt that she may be wearing boy clothes here and there.

Also, if a dolly character is genderless, anything would be classified as "crossdressing" because there is no gender.

14. No, I don't necessarily think cross-dressing a doll is wrong, but I do think it is weird. My little girl always dresses as a girl.
But I do think an exception is cross-PLAYING. I am having Alice cosplay a boy...(Snow from Final Fantasy 13) :sweat

15. So many people in the bjd community are anime fans and, in my experience from when I used to be interested in it, everything was feminized. I'm surprised that people here have concerns with cross dressing! Most male dolls on this board have long elegant hair anyway, I don't see an issue with a skirt or a dress or a set of fishnets. Dolls are all about self expression of both yourself and the character of the doll, so if they want to cross dress, let them! If anyone wants to buy a really butch guy and put him in a go-go skirt, be my guest! I'm all for it!

In my personal opinion, I would have no problem dressing a puki boy in a skirt. I might be very wary of posting pictures to the community due to the high concerns surrounding child solicitation on the internet, but that would not stop my proverbial small boy doll from wearing a dress or little girl from wearing short hair and a baggy shirt.

Besides, they're dolls.

16. i really dont see how the age should make it more wrong or right to crossdress doll Ô_o
i'm 'underaged' girl and still wear boy clothes. is it wrong? i dont see why it would be, i'm not hurting anyone. is it weird? probably yes xD and it would be the same even if i was 30.
and it is most definatly not wrong to post pictures! its not porn y'know xD and it should'nt offend anyone. its just pieces of fabric after all and we decided that girl should wear this and boys should wear that… and honestly I think stereotype are stupid and useless. It just put pressure on people…

17. Well said^^

Why people get so worked up over what to wear and not wear I don`t understand. It`s a piece of da*n fabric. But we put up rules for about anything. How things should be, not be. Kind of stiff and dumb.

18. I'm very much of the opinion of: If it's not hurting anyone and it's not against the law, what's the problem?

It might be because I'm very gender-neutral at times, but for me beauty is beauty. If people choose to express themselves that way, and embrace the inner part of themselves on a surface level, we should not be discouraging this. (Part of this is the highschool teacher in me who has to deal with students discriminating against other students for the stupidest. little. things.)

When you take it to the realm of dolls, I think the same rule applies: If it's not representing a sexual fetish, it's fine.

If you view a doll as an inanimate object - hey, it's not going to know the difference, right? I still say that keeping it out of the area of sexual connotations and positioning is essential because the general majority would probably find this offensive. But if it's for the aesthetics and beauty - well, it's a representation of beauty as you see it, and that should be cherished.

If you view the doll as having a character attached to the doll - it becomes a part of that character. It's really easy to anthropomorphise dolls because of their human appearance. If it's a part of the character, go for it.

19. I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding here: cross dressing is not necessarily a sexual activity and it doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with being transgender. Therefore, your question about the age of the doll involved doesn’t seem relevant. Why would the age matter, since crossdressing is just putting clothes of the opposite gender on one’s body? Children dress up all the time, remember?
How far does one go depends purely on the character of the doll. As for “all the way” by this I assume you mean a transgender doll, which is completely different from cross dressing as it is not permanent or recreational. If one changed the body of a doll to resemble a doll of the opposite gender, that doll would no longer be crossdressing because it would now BE the new gender.
Why it would be wrong to post pictures of a cross-dressed doll I can’t possibly imagine.
Also, I’d just like to point out that many many male bjds look like women anyways, so really it is almost impossible to tell the gender of some dolls unless the doll is wearing gendered clothes or you can see the whole body. So, I probably wouldn’t even notice the doll was wearing clothes of the opposite gender.

20. My Pzycho will probably cross dress at least once after I get him a body.
