Dolly Cross-Dressing

Sep 11, 2007

    1. a] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing?

Why would it be? So long as the clothes themselves aren't sexually suggestive, I don't see any problem with it. Hell, I cross-dressed all the time as a kid (which, in the 1970s, meant I wore shorts and a T-shirt instead of a skirt and blouse). I even rode a boy's bicycle. Of course, they called me a "tomboy" for it.

b] when cross dressing how far does one go? Does one leave it to feminine clothing/face-up? or does one go all the way?

I'm not sure what you mean by "all the way" here. If you're talking about undergarments, I'm not sure how that applies since they wouldn't normally be visible. In fact, if you have certain kinds of dresses you have to have the correct undergarments or it wouldn't look right. Also, cross-dressing isn't just boy-wearing-skirts. It's also girl-wearing-suit-and-tie (like Annie Lennox of Eurythmics) too.

c] Is it wrong to post pictures of your cross-dressers?

If it were, all the visual kei artists in Japan would be in jail. XD Seriously, as I said, so long as the clothing isn't sexually suggestive or overly revealing on an underage doll, I don't see where the issue would be.

    2. I don't believe so. I mean, if little girls can wear pants, why can't little boys wear dresses if they want?

I'm kind of confused at this... I don't think there is a 'going too far' when it comes to cross-dressing if that's what you mean.

      Absolutely not!! =D

To me.... I don't understand society's standards of dress. Why is it okay if a girl wears pants and t-shirts and boots, but when a boy puts skirts and blouses and high-heels on suddenly it's wrong?

So for me, whether it's a doll or a person, I don't care what you choose to wear. If I don't like it, I don't have to look!

    3. My personal opinion is they're clothes :/ reguardless of 'age' of a doll. I think it doesn't matter.
In the fact it's clothes and for a laugh or even just for the character I don't think there is really a limit. tbh it sounds harsh but to get fussed over a male doll in girl clothes is like crying over a girl doll in trousers.

Lastly no, it's not wrong as a sense. If people don't like to see it then shame I guess.

    4. a] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing?

I don't thing it is. As long as the clothes are appropreate, I'v never seen a problem with it.

b] when cross dressing how far does one go? Does one leave it to feminine clothing/face-up? or does one go all the way?

I usually only do girly clothes and wigs, that's it.

c] Is it wrong to post pictures of your cross-dressers?

      I don't see anything wrong with it as long as they aren't doing very naughty things, but that is the rules for all posts. ^^;;

      My Si, Shin is a crossdresser but it really fits his charater. I dress him in girls clothes because he looks pretty and with his personality, I think he'd find himself pretty too. ^_^;;

    5. a] is it unethical/wrong to picture "underage" (that means 21 for me) dolls cross-dressing?
unless it's sexual, everyone "crossdesses". it's when it's sexaul that i go um wait a minute and turn away.

b] when cross dressing how far does one go? Does one leave it to feminine clothing/face-up? or does one go all the way?

so far i only have a girl doll. though i'm working on getting her twin who i have everything for but him:) i will be putting Aderyn(my girl) into his suit for kicks when it gets here.(boy is she going to HATE me for that.)

c] Is it wrong to post pictures of your cross-dressers?
      hell NO! post away!:)

    6. Now, I have no problem with gay or girly dolls, I'm just rather shocked at the abundance there seem to be. I myself have had girly dolls and can say all my dolls have been gay. Mostly it's because I just never really connected with girl dolls and therefor I don't I really allowed my dolls to have connections with girl dolls either on a subconscious level.
EDIT: I just realized I may seem unclear on what I mean by girly boy. What I mean by it is... putting boys in skirts, having them act cutesy, giving them pigtails, etc etc etc. Not just having a pretty mold.

So I want to know, why do YOU think people lean towards more girly or gay dolls?
Do you yourself tend to have gay or girly dolls?
Do you wish people would stop turning 80% of Luts dolls into girly boys?

    7. I think it's due to their molds. The male dolls are generally very feminine looking even when dressed as boys. So I suppose it feels natural to dess them in a girly way.

Personally I can't quite understand it, I don't see why people dress up boys in skirts. Why not get a girl-doll then? But that's just me. Whatever people do with their dolls are their business after all.

My two boys are gay btw. I read a lot of slash and they're bought to impersonate those two characters. Still it's a sort of roleplay. Like if they were actors. I have no problem with putting them in totally different roles if that's needed :)

    8. I think for me personally it's that I just like softer features on my guys. Even the straight ones. I tend to like softer, less angular features, even when I look at guys in real life. It's not that I want a girly boy, it's that I want a pretty boy. XD If that makes any sense.

I don't really find many female sculpts that I like either I think that some of my dolls will be more gay than others, but not all of them will be, despite their feminine features.

    9. odd one this- there is a real leaning towards this. None of my boys are gay or particually girly , they are all straight, well mostly...

I find at meets an am in the minority being a girl collector that likes girl dolls! I have some girl fairy's that are going to be into girly love- that is also pretty unrepresented in the BJD world. I don't know why- but I plan some tamish photo stories for them. For my dolls I say that fairy's are into any gender!

But yes, I don't know why..a way of living out fantasies that are pleasing to the eye maybe? Sometimes a reflection of sexuality?

As said, only my fairy's (I have one boy fairy) are into anything, the rest are straight, no reason why, they just are!

    10. I'm getting a girl doll because I feel bad for dressing Shasta up in all these frilly things... he has a male side that I'm repressing. Still, he looks so cute. >w< Girls really lile dressing things up, but they can't often identify with other girl personalities, for some reason. I don't know what it is about the male nametag that is so appealing. It just it. o.o

There are a lot of more realistic, manlier molds being made lately and I think it's great! Most molds are too "anime" or too "stylish" for my taste. I'd have less hard of a time dressing up a Migidoll Ryu in frilly things than a Luts El. x'D

As for homosexuality... well, most of my characters are "open". I hate having one set option, because it isn't natural to me. Shasta's twelve, though, so, unless we're talking about shota in the deepest recesses of my mind, he's got a girlfriend, and it'll probably be pretty platonic.

    11. Dollfies are a product of Japan's 'cult of cuteness'. Cuteness includes some of the following qualities: vulnerability, shyness, innocence, passivity and childlike qualities. Culturally, Japan admires these qualities and considers them virtues. Aesthectically, cuteness is portrayed as wide-eyed (big-eyed), angelic, soft-featured, wonderment, etc. Male dollfies get the androgynous treatment to distort maleness into 'cuteness'.

    12. This has "DANGER" written all over it, but walk with me, talk with me..

In my experience asking my girl-friends (I'm a guy, with many friends who are girls) why yaoi appeals to so many fangirls, I get the same response.. "Girls don't like competition." What could that mean? Heaven forbid a girl feels out-shined by a female character, so she pairs the men up together leaving the female out entirely. It makes sense in a Freudian sort of way. Thats the stance I subscribe to. Then again, whenever I see an over-the-top-drag-clown-makeup looking doll, I do think to myself "Kill it, kill it with fire." Then again, I guess I'm the odd one out on that.

[sorry if that offended anyone, its all love here]

    13. What other people want to do with their dolls is their disicion.

I think it'because of the style of the sculpts, they are very feminine but that's just the asian style I guess...

Personaly I don't want a gay doll or girly guy, it's not really my taste. I did want to make girly clothing so I bought a girl doll. Maybe I'm just a bit traditional with my thoughts about it, but then again my dolls my choise ^^

    14. I remember when I was 11, and one of the boys dressed up as a woman at a costume party. All the girls loved it. I have an impression than many girls tend to find it humorous, and that having boy dolls and being able to dress them up as girls, gives a sence of power, be it "haha, look at him!" or some sort of... fetish? Even if they are "just dolls".

Personally, I prefer the more "manly" dolls, and I also prefer to dress them like men. Preferably with long hair, and sometimes in a kilt, but still men. I don't really see the point in buying feminine boy dolls and dress them as girls, when there are many girl dolls to choose from.

I agree with what heavenly riot said about female competition. I think many of us constantly compare ourselves to other girls, and there is always some sort of competition going on. Many people are sort of "living out their fantasies" through their dolls, so even if it sounds a bit loony, it makes sense to me ;)

    15. XDDDDDD Hahaha! Well said!

heavenly riot-- Huh. That's an interesting response, and not one I've considered before. I know it's the truth-- I certainly don't like competition-- so I guess in a way that makes sense, even when pertaining to dolls. Personally though, I don't need to carry that over and stress that in my dolls. I love female moulds. ^^; Most of what I will end up buying will be female moulds.

      littlepinkfaerie-- Go the minority! XD

I have no male dolls as of yet, but I will never dress them up as girls, or have them be gay. Part of it is that that simply isn't their character, part is it isn't my personal preference for them (if it turns out otherwise, I'll be VERY surprised), and I think part is just the OVERWHELMING amount of people doing it for me, even if I got the inkling to do it as a joke. ^^; Two of my doll-owning friends have lots of boys and ALL of them are gay. The only reason Vana got thrown into the threesome with Sen and Zoe was because there aren't any men for her to mess with until I get her boyfriend. ^^;; Someone mentioned it earlier, but there really aren't as many representations of yuri as yaoi, and I-- although a straight female-- prefer yuri. ^^; It's just cute. So I'm going to assume that's why so many owners of dolls do it: they think it's cute.

    16. I fed myself a diet of things Japanese when I was growing up, fed it to my daughter and then she told me about yaoi. I bought some yaoi manga for her birthday and she loves it for some reason. In some deep, dark part of my soul I can admire the stuff for being so brazen. But can I get my daughter to admire my dollfies? No way! She hates them.

    17. I have one! :aheartbea don't kill him please. ;)

I really don't know how it happened. *_* I never would have guessed I would have a doll like Dresden. All gay, very girly, only wearing short shirts, pink hair and drag make-up.
It just happened and I couldn't love him more then the way he is. Also it wouldn't be the same if he was a girl.
If Dresden was a girl it wouldn't be Dresden at all. So that's why I didn't bought a girl.

There are so many girls in real live who are tomboys or look / dress a bit manly. But on the other way around why aren't there as many boys who look girly and wear dresses?
I really have a thing for drag queens. And I would love to see pretty girly boys in dresses.

And I have... uhr had one straight boy doll. Somehow he ended up with a boyfriend. x___x
      I think it's cute.
Gay is more fun I guess. XD
      I'm bisexual myself.

I don't own a SD girl, only MSD and tiny girls.
My MSD girl is attracted by anything in skirts. She has a boyfriend who wears dresses.

I have much fun with them. And I don't think about: Why is it like that?

    18. Really I think it is largely the same fascination that many girls have with yaoi, it's unrealistic, and that aspect of it is actually why they like it.
The reality of gay male couples is nothing like what is portrayed in yaoi, or in many doll relationships, and at least party thats why it's so popular, it's an escape from reality, like all media, and especially a hobby like this which is so heavily infused with the creation of fantasy/stylised characters.

The simple fact is, people who make effeminate gay male dolls tend to like that sort of thing, possibly it's attractive to them in the same way that lipstick lesbians are hot to many men, or it's simply a concept they find unthreatening or pleasing to imagine.

I'm not saying everyone is out for a sexual thrill, however what I am suggesting, is that if a woman is given the choice of creating a male character, they're more likely to infuse it with things they are either familiar with, or find attractive, whether that be a softer style or personality, a non-threatening relationship which incorporates aspects or likes from the owners sexuality, or a fashion sense.

Finally, obviously I'm not suggesting all women are like this, and clearly tastes vary. But this does seem to be a common trait.

    19. I'm not sure where I fit in with this, because I have two male dolls and two female dolls.
My tiny boy is a child, so he has no sexuality yet.
My SD boy is considered bisexual, which is entirely due to the story he comes from - where the only men he's ever been attracted to are himself (narcissism) and his only childhood friend. By the end of the first novel's timeline he's happily married to a woman.

I honestly don't feel a need to dress either of my two boys in dresses or particularly girly clothing because if I really want to make a dress, I have two girls to put in them instead.
Just because a male doll (or human, for that matter) is given the tag gay doesn't mean they all start dressing like women... :huh?:

    20. I dunno. All of my boys are straight except for one, well technically he swings both ways. And I'm a girl.

I like the idea of having a feminine guy, without being a girl. he has his manly qualities, hes just more fragile personality-wise so I get to 'mother' him alot more, and I feel I can't really do that with my straight boys.
