1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dollzone Discussion ~ 60 and 70cm ~ Part VIII

Aug 1, 2018

    1. It's difficult to get most dolls to sit seiza because of the shape of the legs. You want the legs to look "right" when they're standing/sitting so they're shaped to look natural in that situation. Because resin is hard and doesn't compress, when you position a doll to sit on their legs, it's not quite right. Some are better at it than others in my experience but it usually takes some fidgeting to get them to stay sitting without tipping/falling over and not looking completely weird while doing it. Clothes usually help hide the weirdness of the thigh and calf not touching giving them the odd hovering look.

Cross-legged sitting depends on the way the hip joint is engineered, I think. Some of my guys can do it reasonably well. Others... if I pull the thigh completely out of the hip socket, it'll work but look like something horrible happened to them. They may also be unstable while sitting in that position. If they're wearing something that is very loose and flowy, it's fine and hidden. But if they're wearing even remotely snug fitting pants, it can't happen because the clothes prevents the joint from being so far out of position.

    2. he's strung super tight which isn't helping with kneeling, i think that will eventually work out, just his feet might not lay nicely.

and, you are so right, I looked at the promo again, and they have him in flowy pants in the ones where he is in lotus pose.
duly noted.... i bet i can make that work, if i can find any pants... idk why i thought his legs were bare in that shot, wishful thinking maybe. still, those slotted joints have very little range of motion, but the pretty torso makes up for it.

eventually i would like to have one to compare of the DZ 68 body like what Gene wears, human version, though the wings are magnificent...

    3. Does anyone know how often Dollzone does events? I've got my eye on one of their dolls, but I prefer waiting for a sale if one is likely to happen within the next few months.

    4. the Ji-Zero sale is on until Dec.16th, for just that sculpt. seems like normally winter holidays has a sale for all models, but not sure what they will do with this year though... here's hoping, right :)

    5. I think it's likely that they'll do their usual sale of 12% discount for if not Christmas, then Chinese New Year. I wish they'd do event dolls again, though...

    8. Thank you both!! :) I've been working on a prompt challenge with a friend and he became my "Ghost". I really feel bad for not taking more photos of him. I was supposed to build him an office this year but, uh, everything's in limbo once again. Will I ever get to build sets for my dolls? Who knows at this stage.

    9. Quiet and Insane, Azrael looks so gorgeous and imposing! I love his intense gaze. :aheartbea

The lighting makes him look like an avenging angel. *swoon*

    10. Thank you so much @Rabbit-moon! :) That was definitely my intention so I'm very glad it came through in the photo!

    11. Aaaaaaah I miss this thread it is so good to "see" y'all, especially Azrael. I need to take some new pictures of Silfe but yeah, just feeling very unmotivated at the moment.

    12. Hey Redfaery! Thank you! I agree! I love this thread and all the Dollzone fans! Always such a pleasure to see when you and Quiet and Insane, IzabethS, Grimalkin, Girrl, Iron_Dog, and everyone else, posts pictures. It's like visiting with a friend.

Unfortunately, I've been very unmotivated lately, as well. Not motivated to do much since the pandemic hit. The only thing that I've accomplished is getting out early and voting! I came back home and had a celebratory tea-party with a couple of my DZ boys, Yuu, Cloud, and Hong. :cake: (Dang! I guess I should've taken a few pictures! :doh)

    13. My lack of motivation stems from the stress of suddenly having to move house at the start of the year, then have a pandemic hit while we're basically out in the middle of nowhere, and now having to suddenly move house AGAIN once the lockdown eases. I've been feeling very unhappy about all of this, mostly due to the fact that I've been so stressed Azrael and the others have stopped "talking" to me. No ideas, motivation, or inspiration to continue writing their story, and even less to take photos. I keep myself surrounded by them as much as possible because I like their company, but I feel a little sad that they're giving me the silent treatment.

    14. I've been struggling with motivation myself with my dolls... It's been a stereotypical rainy Autumn here, so that's been difficult to deal with.
I did manage to get a picture of Kass, my DZ Chen (girl). I need to take a pic of her next to Val 3.0 since she was 1.0....

      Here's a pic anyway.

    15. @IzabethS - she's so pretty, her face up really suits her :aangel:

      motivation: what's that...
i really wanted to do some Halloween shots with my endless props, but work is insane, it's unseasonably hot (saps energy) and i cannot seem to get the lighting right anywhere. so instead i'm focusing on clearing a space to hopefully arrange a set where i can change out backgrounds/props. i'm sure everyone is sick of seeing the same faux fur :whee:
i should take advantage of the heat and do face ups i guess before wet season prevents.

    16. Aww, thank you @Rabbit-moon  it's such a compliment to be thought of, and even moreso to be included in a list of heavy hitting awesome folk like that, compiled by yet another awesome person!

Chiming in with the others re motivation... left hand surgery in February, followed by lockdown, right hand surgery in June, right elbow surgery in August, evac notices to my Grands and in-laws because our whole damn state is on fire, still need to schedule left elbow surgery, oh! and I'm expected to have nerve pain for 3-4 months post right elbow surgery, but if it still persists at 6 months post surgery I get to have another, more invasive surgery to maybe fix that... I've been hoarding cute props, but actually being able to take photos has been... difficult, to say the least...

    17. Is there anyone with a Prajna that can tell me what size eyes he wears, maybe with a pic? I've got one headed my way soon and need to either make or commission a set of eyes for him, but I'm not sure what size will best suit him.

    18. Gosh! Quiet and Insane, I'm so sorry; your situation does sound very stressful. I hate moving. It's one of my worst stressors. And stress always affects my creative mojo. And, pandemics! Pandemics are not good for anyone's creative process. My guys haven't been talking to me either. I think they're scared I'm going to catch Covid-19, and then who will baby their spoiled-diva-heinies?! (I think I'm a little scared, too.). Hang in there!

IzabethS, it's hard to be motivated when the world is going crazy. I don't have the motivation to be creative, lately. I have pre-existing medical conditions, so I'm just hunkered down in self-quarantine mode with my dolls. I'm lucky in that I can work from home. I may not be up to photographing my boys, but they sit quietly, keeping me company, while I bake bread.

Lovely to see Kass! Thanks for the photo. The Chen sculpt does make a pretty girl. :love Would love to see her with red lips. What do you think?

Wow! Grimalkin, you sound more motivated than I am right now. Actually, it sounds really cool that you are clearing a space where you can change backgrounds and props for photo ops. Can't wait to see what you do! :D

You are so welcome, Girrl! Hey! You are one of the gang here! DZ fans stick together! :thumbup. So cool to hear you are hoarding props! I love props! What kind of goodies are you stashing?

Sorry to hear about all your surgeries. What a bummer! I hope all goes well and you don't have to do that additional surgery because of nerve pain. I will send positive healing thoughts your way. :aangel:

(I can so relate to what you said. I live in California, and it seems the whole frickin' state is on fire! Gah! I wish Autumn would please arrive and bring some colder weather, and maybe a little rain.)

    19. I've been doing okay on the creative front but unfortunately that hasn't include taking photos. Fei-Lau has a new wig (his old one was mohair and had started to felt up in the back for some reason) and it looks awesome on him. Have I shared a pic of this with you guys? No. He has been sitting on the love seat with his husbands for the last several weeks though as I initially wasn't sure of the white tone/shade (it's more ivory than snow white like his old wig) and wanted to get used to it on him before saying yea/nay (it's his new default wig now).

Most of my creative direction has been in writing (I've written about 200,000 words since lock-down started) and eye making and just this weekend past I've attempted my first sort of hard cap wig for my impossible to wig Dragonlings (Batchix Clever Littles, who have a head size of 2 7/8"). I win Covid bingo as I'm immuno-compromised, have a lung disease, have suffered 3 TIA's and have a genetic heart defect so I basically only leave my house to get groceries/necessities. I haven't stepped foot on any form of public transit (including taxis/uber/lyft) since March. I'm an introvert so it's not terrible in my mind but I do miss seeing my friends semi-regularly. Unfortunately they live in Toronto, that's a 1 hour public transit ride away and it's a hot spot right now to the point that the city has been pushed back into Stage 2 openness for the next 30 days *sigh*.
