Dollzone Discussion ~ 60 and 70cm ~ Part VIII

Aug 1, 2018

    1. all such beautiful boys and ladies!
      i'm really admiring Kassandra's faceup, and Messieurs Hong and Chen are so handsome :love

      i'm so in for Throwback Thursday too!
      there are so many that disappeared from their website archives i would love to see owner pics for...
      i wonder if anyone still has a Jeremy, the time traveller one :aangel:
      i might be weird, but i actually love how DZ/DC WS resin mellows to that ivory tone.

    2. I have an old DZ leather outfit I got 2nd hand several years ago. It's pants, jacket and armbands. Wu-Tyr (Dollshe Orijean) wears it and you'll take it (maybe) from his cold, dead hands. The last time I had him and the outfit out several months ago it was still fine. It might be the original Hong outfit (?). The seller was unsure who it belonged to as they'd received it 2nd hand, too.

    3. IzabethS, Val, I mean Kassandra, will always look awesome, no matter what shape he/she takes. So much love for the Chen sculpt. :aheartbea

      Iron Dog, it would be great to see pictures of Fei-Lau, again!

      Yeah, the knees could be an issue. There were times when I had to put a stabilizing wire in the legs to keep the knees from collapsing. But, it was no big deal. I used to do that with a number of my dolls.

      Thank you Quiet and Insane! I think the Hong sculpt, in general, is a sexy beast. :drool

      I got the horns directly from Resin Soul, back in the day. They are great horns!

      Yes, Dragoneye1300! I'm all for having Throwback Thursdays.

      I love the old DZ outfits! :aheartbea Unfortunately, I rarely had the money to get the outfits, too. But, I would still love to see them!

      Grimalkin, Yay! Another vote for Throwback Thursdays!

      You are right; so many beautiful dolls have vanished from the DZ website. It's such a shame. But we can always remember them here! This Dollzone thread has such a great group of fans.

      Wow! Iron_Dog, that's amazing! The few faux leather clothing items I have for my dolls are basically in shreds or just melted. Ugh! It's really a bummer because some of them were expensive, namely my ancient Doll Heart outfits. Great to hear the DZ outfits are holding up.:thumbup

    4. Does anyone happy to own the 62cm Boy Body (B60-005) along with any SWITCH heads? I'm thinking about hybriding a shorter boy and I like the look of the Dollzone 62 body. I'm also not sure if white or peach is closer to rosy white

    5. I have a pic of Wu-Tyr in the outfit but he's OT for this thread. I don't have a pic of him with Fei-Lau so I don't think I can post it here and still be on-topic. Unless showing an old DZ outfit counts as on-topic even though it's not on an on-topic doll? I don't think it does but if a Mod wanted to jump in on this....

      I'm actually a bit surprised that the outfit is still in excellent condition since pleather tends to not age well. Especially the thinner stuff that clothes is generally made of. To the best of my knowledge, the first owner kept the outfit in a ziplock bag 99% of the time as did the 2nd owner. I think the person I bought it from said they tried it on a doll once and then put it away because the doll was not wowed by it/comfortable wearing it (it is kinda on the... errr revealing club-wear side). Because it's black with a red satin lining on some parts, I don't trust it as far as I could throw it to not stain when Wu-Tyr is in his box fully dressed so it stays in a ziplock bag unless I have Wu-Tyr out of his box. Considering that all my guys live in their boxes the majority of the time, I'm continuing the ziplock storage thing so maybe that helps to keep it from falling apart?

    6. @Iron_Dog
      Thank you very much for your answer on the subject of old DZ fake leather! :kitty2
      I'm a bit surprised that the clothes survived, but of course I'm very happy about it. This information helped me a lot.
      Maybe at some point I still have a chance to get hold of old DZ outfits?!? Even if they are made of this material. :kitty2

    7. @dragoneye1300 The shoes that came with my full-set started to degrade a few years ago, and I finally threw them away recently since evey time I touched them I'd end up with black smudges on my hands from the faux suede coming off. The outfit appears to still be in good condition. My Chen only ever wore it once, the night I unboxed him 11 odd years ago and since then it has been kept in it's plastic packaging.

      I also had two old pairs of DZ shoes I bought separately around the same time. One pair bit the dust, and started to flake, and the other is still in OK condition.

    8. GAH! It’s such a bummer that all these cool old faux leather outfits have disintegrated. Actually, this has kinda put me off buying faux leather clothes for my dolls in the future.:eek:

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Wow! How did I miss this? Has anyone noticed that Dollzone issued a new 70cm boy back in April??? It also looks like they issued a new boy body, too.
      I didn't see anything in the news thread about him, but I just noticed him over at Alice’s Collection.
      I seriously thought Dollzone was done with making big boys when they discontinued all their 70cm boys. I'm glad to see I was wrong.
      His name is Mr. Leung. :aheartbea
      New body, too. (B70-004-1)
    9. @IzabethS your Minas is beautiful! I like how her pastel hair and faceup look with the goth outfit!
      The fox Chen was awesome too, but as Kassandra she's stunning!
      @Rabbit-moon ohhh I like his thoughtful look! And the horns :D
      I can't really take part in Throwback Thursday as I hadn't had DZ dolls until last year, but I do have a Floy head, the sculpt discontinued long ago, so maybe his recent photos count :) he doesn't have a body, but he's perfect just the way he is :D
    10. I've found pleather to be a big dice roll on whether or not it falls apart. I've had some stuff that barely lasted a year and other stuff that's still going strong years later. I have some pleather in my fabric bin that's easily 15 years old and it's absolutely fine. But it's also very thick, almost like upholstery fabric, so that may have something to do with it's longevity.
    11. That has been the same for me... and they have all been stored/worn in the same place. Kinda sad with some of them as it seems to be the nicest clothing disintegrates the most.
    12. I came across my Wing floating head yesterday as I have been inspired to do a BjD tidy and I was taken aback on how large the eyes are :aeyepop:
      Hopefully I will remember to add a picture of Wing next Throwback Thursday :lol: no old photos, haven't got any saved unfortunately, so a recent one will have to do (the face up is still the same though :cool:)
    13. That would be great, Kyukyukyu! I’d love to see your DZ Wing. :love
    14. Ahhh, why wait for Thursday... I am bucking the trend! :D
      My LS Shize was immediately to hand and have been woooah small head! So was inspired to do a side by side comparison... of the newest addition to my collection and one of the oldest (I bought Wing in 2007 (!?!) and this faceup is probably from that year - so old!!. I still like the Wing sculpt, something about it, not just nostalgia. Note, Wing was subjected to one of my first mods... I rounded the eyes to make them less triangular and sanded his nose down almost immediately after he arrived ;)
      On LS Shize normal yellow 68cm body
      [IMG] [IMG]
      And side by side with the Shize head - the eyes look twice the size O-o
    15. Wow what a comparison!
      I know a lot of my older dolls had much larger eyes. Azrael originally came with 18mm by default, but his eyes are small enough I can do 14 mm or 16 mm small iris. All are still huge compared to my newer heads which take 10-12 mm eyes (or smaller!). :lol:
    16. Thank you everyone for the kind comments on Val/Kassandra!
      It really is amazing how the trend is shifting now towards more realism with smaller eyes and more defined features. My Chen easily takes 16mm eyes, anything smaller and they gap. But comparing her to my, let's say, Lost Chronicles Allurial, it just sinks in how big they are. My LC head takes 12mm eyes and the head is much smaller too, but intended for 62cm+ sized bodies (Mine is on a DF-H 63cm girl body). Kassandra, my Chen, is on a DF-A 68cm body and she looks great on it even if her heads a little big proportion wise.
      I realld do need to do a comparison of my DZ April to my Stramonium. Or even to my wife's classic April (the one that looks a bit anime-styled from way back when). I keep saying this yet I never do it...
    17. Wow! Kyukyukyu, for the comparison pictures!
      I really like the face-up on your boy. The tattoo on his forehead is so cool. (I love the old DZ Wing sculpt. :love)
      Your Wing looks so otherworldly with his large eyes. I like the effect. :thumbup
      Just as a comparison, here’s a photo of the Wing2 I brought from the MP. He still has his original face-up, and no modifications. I was always fond of Dollzone’s early pointed facial features. (Ignore the smudge on his nose.:sweat)
    18. It's fascinating seeing how a company/artists' sculpts evolve over time. Heck even face up styles too! Things were so much simpler back then.
    19. If only (in 2007) I had waited... Wing 2 eyes were more to my taste ;) And wow, the original face up in such good condition (smudge aside)... and a lot less yellow than mine :sweat had appreciated how yellow my Wing head had become oops!
      Found Wing 1 promotional image, you can see how less triangular Wing 2's are.
      I was just all about ooooh elf ears! And I think Wing's mouth is sculpted well, and the cheeks with pointy chin were quite unique at the time (still like them now :) ). When I get some time I will how I could give him an overhaul.
      Eg large eyes would be easier to make some polycoria eyes for ... hmmmm :wiggle
    20. Yes! That is something which fascinates me too.
      Some you notice and track through their progress... some companies can take you by surprise, when suddenly their aesthetic has finally aligned to yours :lol:
