Thanks PoeticSoul. Now, I just have to come up with a really stunning and creative concept for them. I should mention that they are for our 5yr anniversary too. Both dolls are ordered blank. Their names are Passi (Moment) & Flora (Anson) after our favorite flowers, passion flowers. Any suggestions are welcome!
PoeticSoul: thanks! Your Bohemia Rose was really inspiring! I hope I can do something even half as successful as that project.
So, if anyone wants to get a head start on designing their Anson, I made a PSD file that will let you play around with color gradients. More info & the download link here. If people like it, I can do one for Moment, too.
Logodae, that is so cool! And very generous of you to share your work! If you're willing to do the same for Moment it would be a fun thing to play with while we wait!
I ordered an Anson the minute I saw her, such an innovative and beautifully sculpted doll! I'm trying to figure out how on earth they managed to cast those petals, I do have her here already. But I dare not take her out of her box for too long and examine her closely. I have a bunch of dolls here waiting for painting and until I get the customers done, Anson will have to stay in her box and not tempt me. Probably next month I can get to work on her, but in the meantime I haven't settled on a color scheme, so I'll just dream about her for a while. Logodae, many thanks for that download, I can't wait to give that a try.... So helpful! PoeticSoul your Bohemia Rose is simply brilliant, thanks so much for sharing her picture with us. I knew this doll would inspire amazing creativity in the DoA group, I'll be sticking around this thread to watch all the incredible dolls.
Welcome to the new members! I havn't posted for a while as I'm still waiting for my Moment which I ordered in December. He should be coming home in the next three weeks? I finally had my 'Aha' moment (no pun intended) and came up with the most outrageous and difficult blushing project! Peacock feathers!! I guess I need to reserve a room in a padded cell, but it'll be worth it!!
kurogane: That sounds amazing. You should do it with mica powders, it'll be gorgeous. Glad people like the PSD, I'll be sure to put one together for Moment tonight. Edit: Here it is! ^_^
Pffft, well he's pretty much done! He's got both his arms now c: He just needs a loin cloth and maybe some more details in his petals. I made a gallery thread for some new pics: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?503171-Every-flower-has-to-wilt-some-day-%28Dollzone-Moment%29&p=8808077#post8808077
snow - he looks awesome with the arms! nice job! i'm still slowly toiling away on aphelion's blushing working full time sure does eat up my time!
Thanks! I can't wait to see your fellow finished. Luckily I had a day off and I actually couldn't stop and put him away xD I had to finish him. Took way too long though, I get distracted so easily
kurogane, I think doing peacock feathers is a gorgeous and brilliant idea! Oh wow, I just love all the ideas people are coming up with for these dolls. I am loving the artistry so much. These sculpts are so amazing, even the blank ones are beyond beautiful making all the photos here truly wonderful to see. Snow, I knew your take on this boy would be unique and you never fail to inspire. Not only is he a fabulous work of art, but his character is pure fascination! Well done! darkmothflame, I understand totally the "toiling away" part, and my heart goes out to you on that one. But it will all be worth it in the end and I can't wait to see your labor of love completed. He's going to be so amazing!
Snow -The arm is an amazing addition! Some plants have the most beautiful flowers, but can have thorns too! Truly awesome work!
ugh - i'm feeling totally wasted... after working 6 hours yesterday on aphelion's legs i finished them and strung him up (minus his flower arms) and.... found i hated how it all looked from the waist down! all total i've put 35 hours into him already, but i know i won't be satisfied if he isn't perfect! the lines - which looked fine on the individual pieces - became too heavy when all together.... so it's going to be even longer before my boy is done because now i have to strip off the blushing from his legs and upper most petal arm parts to redo them... i think for the torso i just need to add a few soft lines to make it more like the head, but i thought i'd share at least a few pictures of what he looks like now.... the sun also came through the windows and shown quite lovely through his head, creating a rather lovely glow http://4oni.com/angelsdream/sunaphelion-4.jpg http://4oni.com/angelsdream/sunaphelion-6.jpg but i think i'm going to take a break fro him for a little bit to work on some other projects and i get over my frustration
Great shot! His marble texture looks amazing. O_O I can't believe you have to redo the arms and legs.
That marbeling is so amazing and beautiful and compelling. I swear I read a story in every line! And the way the sun shone on his head like that...breathtaking!
He's looking so good! I can understand about wanting him perfect, so take a break and recharge those creative batteries!
darkmothflame - I think he looks fantastic. I would show us better pictures before you do anything. We will give you our honest opinion if you want. I wouldn't erase anything until you show us more and then put him away for a little while and bring him out again. I find when I doing something very labour intensive, I get frustrated for nothing. I really think he looks lovely. I think you are being too hard on yourself. If you still feel this way in a month, well then go for it and wipe it off.
I am envious of those working away on their dolls. Between the rain and some obligations I've found for myself I haven't had the time/ability to work on my Anson. Excuses excuses, I know. But, I did take a photo today.
