DollZone Moment and Anson discussion part 1

Oct 14, 2011

    1. Oh they never cooperate, I feel I have at least won a little when they approve of thier name :)

    2. I've seen the moon head on the renata body and it looks great! And your idea sounds wonderful.

    3. i still havent done much with my Anson... i seem to have misplaced her ear petals too... i know there in a box somewhere. but at least shes standing as decoration in my room.

    4. Those ears petals do come off easily. You probably put them away somewhere for safekeeping and may have to hunt to find them. They will show up. I know what you mean about not doing much with her. She looks so nice blank. I have never before seen a blank doll I like until her. They are a piece of art for sure. I can't wait until I see the arms. They look so gorgeous in pictures.

    5. My Moment arrived safely yesterday but I didn't let myself unpack him until around midnight when I was finished working, so I made all of the typical mistakes: string his arm petals in the wrong order, stringing his arms too loose, knocking his headcap off and bouncing it onto the hardwood floor, sending his eyes wonky with the neck s-hook. @_@; But he's at least assembled and not broken! Has anyone hot glue sueded their Planthros yet? Does it help with the twisty legs? The surface sculpt is quite pretty but I'm disappointed in the engineering of the human body part, and I'm surprised that people are saying this new body is an improvement. >.>

    6. St. James how tightly strung is your Moment? I don't have mine yet, but I've found with my Chen sculpt and his body that he poses best when strung really tight.

    7. i've not tried hot glue sueding my boy, but i haven't had any problems with the legs twisting - but one of my boy's legs is shorter than the other (not nearly as bad as my narae's or spiritdoll body, but still noticeable) - however with his petal arms as extra points of support i'm not too worried about it. i've not had experience with their older boy type bodies, but my moment definitely is equal to my dollzone girls in posing (if you accept the obvious limitations from his petal arms)

i'm chomping at the bit again for my anson to come so i can finally get my order from mint on card - i'm thinking of working the blushing into my previous ideas. i'll probably add in pinks into the moon's face up and the rich blues into the body blushing, and then bring the pink blushing into the renata's body and it should help with the decoupage being more visual. having seen the moon on the renata body made me even more eager to put the head on the anson body.

    8. St.James, I haven't had an issue with twisty legs on Moment either. I think tighter stringing makes a difference. There isn't a ton of range in the upper torso, but I really liked how they posed.

    9. Mine is really tight, so he kicks like a Delf or crosses his legs like an Aria. I think suede will help. Do wish he had more ankle mobility.

    10. Hello, um, I actually just hot glue sueded my Anson this afternoon so I thought I would post. I have both Moment and Anson, but I'm limiting myself to one a day as I strung them both yesterday when they arrived...so that's already a lot of stringing and unstringing and my hands are revolting. Eheh.
      It does help! ^_^
I didn't suede the knees, though, but I did do the hips, since my Moment and Anson liked to pop their legs up randomly like can-can dancers and kick their petals. ^.^"

    11. Yes! That's precisely what he's doing! Who knew? I was expecting him to be more sedate and bookish, and there goes Dalkey, flinging his petals all over the room.

I'm glad to hear that it helps! Maybe I'll give that a try tomorrow. Too exhausted today after only three hours of sleep (and dreaming about very being irritated with DollZone). Go figure.

    12. Hot glue helped a little bit, and I took him completely apart again to switch his upper arm parts. The petals were bundled together by left and right when he arrived, but the writing on the parcels was so unintelligible that there was no way to tell which one was marked L and which was R. I used DZ's photos to figure it out, but apparently I was still wrong or the upper arms were in fact bundled with the wrong lower arms because the elbow petals were sticking slightly forward instead of back. The angle to the shoulder slots was finally what tipped me off. Anyway, enough assembly drama! I took a few photos of Dalkey late last night and they are here. :daisy

    13. Thank you for all the info regarding assembly St. James. I am very nervous about having two to string. They should be here tomorrow, so I know what I will be doing this weekend. Hope there is lots of guy stuff on TV to keep my boyfriend busy. I suspect Moment and Anson will be stealing all my attention for a few days. ;)

    14. Yes, I wish they came with instructions of some kind in the box! I keep questioning if I've strung the shoulders correctly as well. The parts are so different than your average BJD arm parts...that I can't feel sure yet. Hehe. They seem to work though...it's just insecurity, I suppose.

    15. Well, he should be to lift his arms forward (from the elbow) without hitting the elbow petal. The slots in his shoulders are cut at a slight angle if you look at them from above the shoulder joint so that if they are on the proper side they look like they are actually cut straight out from the body. Does that make sense?

    16. He looks awesome. Have you decided what you're going to do with him?

    17. Oh, yeah, I had that nailed down months ago. He is one of two familiars created by our resident alchemist (idrisfynn's F-38). Dalkey is Blackpool's clerk and librarian, so I'm going to paint him to look like old vellum and dress him in leather and paper.

    18. Ah, I do see what you mean about the cut. Yes, that is how I have them. ^_^

    19. That sounds so interesting, I can't wait to see.

    20. I love that concept!:) I am constantly amazed by the wonderful ideas people have for these dolls...but old vellum, leather and paper...just wow!
