DollZone Moment and Anson discussion part 1

Oct 14, 2011

    1. I just received my Anson this morning!
      Here is a teaser....

    2. So many great pictures. I should have Ansons arms soon so then I can string her. I am glad I wasn't the first at doing this. Since I have the regular arms on her already, do I have to cut the elastic to get the arms off? I have never strung anything in my life and terrified. Putting that fragile head on the body was scary enough. I hope my arms are assembled properly but will check the shoulders as suggested in a few
posts previously. I love how everyone is so generous with information. Every time I look at my Anson I'm amazed how gorgeous she is. I am sure they stopped making her because she is so fragile and hard to make. Time consuming on their part. I bet In Awhile they will forget how much work she was and make another amazing doll like her. I am glad I have the tiny flower girl they made as a freebie awhile ago as they are similar. They must have been hard to do as well.

    3. You won't need to cut the elastic to remove her arms. The knot is small enough that you an pull it out through the shoulder. Or you might be able to reuse that elastic for the petal arms. They need high tension and the actual strung length is similar to regular arms. Don't forget that the original sales pages on DZ for these two has step by step photos of the arm stringing for Anson.

    4. I thought Anson was pink?? LOL she's beautiful though!

    5. Animethemed had her's done differently.

    6. She was Hehe...But I just didn't really care for it. Dollzone was really great about it too. They were just like "Of course we can paint her blue!"

The arms were actually the hardest part for me [or..everyone?] because of the very small hole. I did it all a bit backwards but it worked out in the end!

    7. Now that more of these critters are arriving, I really want to see them all in one place!
Created a database for them here: The Conservatory of Flowers

    8. Excellent idea, St. James! I've already added my Anson, Bohemia Rose.:)

    9. It's great to see people's ideas about these wonderful dolls! I have to admit I'm a little bored with my two dolls, they are still sitting blank on my dresser because I can't be bothered to start any project. :sweat I kinda wish I had bought the human arms aswell, because the petal arms are really limiting their posing ability. How do you people pose your dolls other than just standing or sitting with their petal arms resting at their sides?

    10. I am glad now I have those real arms that came by mistake. My petal arms should be here in a couple of days so I will probably feel how you do after having the human arms. They pose amazing but I can't see me changing them back and forth too often. I am still worried about putting those petal arms on whenever they do come. I am just trying to decide if I paint them before I put them on. I really want to see them for real but don't want to take them off to paint. I wonder if they could be painted while on the doll. I am just going to blush the tips. What did everyone else do?

    11. I was just looking at some blank pictures of Anson. I did order her hands so I think I will omit the last petal and do hands. I have two sets of hands because I bought some and then I got my mistake arms. I really love the petal arms but think hands would look prettier. I will still paint those last petal hands so the are the same colour for when I change my mind.

    12. Finally posting in the thread as an owner! (Even though I'm still waiting on some replacement parts for my girl's largest left petal, which chipped during transport.:C )

Last night I experimented with a fix using Tamiya epoxy so we'll see how that turns out once it dries. And then I'll attempt to string her...

Even though she's in pieces I've already taken lots of pictures, she's so fun to look at! And I've decided to use this time she has a just a torso and legs to attempt to make some clothes for her as well.

Then maybe once she's strung I can decide how to paint her.. it seems kind of daunting.. *_*

    13. I got my girl on friday, I have already modded her eyes and did some work getting her together. The large petals for her arms were giving me difficulty with posing, so I took those off and restrung her arms with two of the petals with then a forearm and hand, it works so much better for me, I can handle her better now. I am still undecided on her, but I'm trying.

    14. My guy is left standing simply because it's standing room only in our apt, but he kneels white nicely even with his petal arms. It did contemplate leaving out the largest petal so he'd have more arm mobility, but I decided that I prefered that he retain the extra support he gets from having them touch the ground.

I will be replacing his 'hand' petals with the jointed hands that I ordered with him, but I have to make some s-hooks for them. The s-hooks that fit on the petal hands are too large to fit into the elastic channel in the hands and "forearm" petal, so I bought some 20ga stainless wire yesterday to make some. My original plan had been to drill through the hand petal and attach the jointed hands to nestle inside them, but it's too tight a fit and I am not sure I want to carve out the concavity in the petals that much. Its not like I can replace them If I change my mind or mess it up. :/

    15. This sounds like a great idea. I love my Moment's petal arms but they can be overwhelming for posing and carrying him around. One of my favorite bonding activities is having my dolls sit with me in random places while I do mundane things, so I think that would be a great idea to use at least for when he's just sitting with me.

    16. I finally unpacked my Moment and Anson. They are more beautiful in person than I expected. Sadly Anson came with a chipped petal right in the front of her head. I decided to blush and do their faceups before I assemble them. I don't want to handle them anymore than necessary. I might be getting paranoid because she is already damaged. On the upside, I was surprised to get eyes in the gift heads.

    17. That's too bad that she is damaged! :( Are you going to get a replacement or just sand the edge a little?

Made some s-hooks and put the jointed hands on Dalkey. They look pretty good! I'm hoping that once they've been blushed the sealant will give them enough tooth to keep them from being so squirrely. His thumbs kept flipping backwards so much I thought the elastic was twisted, but no such easy fix.

The hands are smaller than the petal parts, of course, but I like that it makes his arm end at a place that's more in proportion to the rest of his human parts. Here he is full length, armed with...porcupine quills.

    18. Oh, St James I Love Love Love the jointed hands! Brilliant! It gives him so much more ability to express himself and I feel he is more "human". What would we be without our opposing thumbs?
Thank you for the sympathy, I feel very sad. I am going to wait until tomorrow and see what DDE says. I am hoping for a replacement head. I am not all that picky but the petal has lost it's graceful curve at the end. I would have to shorten them both, or it will bother me. I guess my Libra brain needs them to be even, LOL.

    19. Well, at least your Moment is intact right? So you have one doll with whom to play in the meantime?

I think I may have found a use for all of those ancient yellowed whiteskin Delf girl hands I have in a box somewhere. He's going to be painted more yellowy brown tones anyway, so I can make them match and then he'll have a few more fun hand poses! I'm glad that my antique vellum concept for him will actually be enhanced by his yellowing over time!

    20. Lace Princess, it's so sad about the chip. My Anson was one of the first ones...received her back in January actually...and she arrived with a couple of chipped head petals, but I found the missing pieces by going carefully through her box and just super-glued them back on. Have you tried looking though that unbelievable mass of bubble wrap and packaging for the missing pieces? I figured such things were just going to happen considering the detailed and delicate nature of the sculpt, and I was looking for more of a "weathered flower" look anyway so it didn't bother me. (The way I styled my girl, with all the artwork, I figured any boo-boos along the way would be dealt with super-glue and more artwork.):sweat

St. James, that's awesome about the hands (and I so love the vellum idea, as I've said before.) How unique and original he'll be!:) Oh boy, I can't wait until we can see this librarian vision of yours completed!

Yeah:sweat...pretty much artwork everywhere on my Bohemia Rose!
