DollZone Moment and Anson discussion part 1

Oct 14, 2011

    1. Lace princess I feel your pain. That would really bother me too so I would just ask for the head to be replaced. I bet if you provide a picture, they will replace the part and meanwhile you can keep what you have and still enjoy her. They never asked me to send back the human arms that were sent by mistake so in the end I will be further head. Just kind of sucks at the moment but her arms are almost here.

    2. Thanks Shashy & PoeticSoul~ There was very little bubble wrap. I am amazed that there wasn't more damage and I am sure it happened before she was packaged. My BF and I went through what packaging there was very carefully. I sent DDE an email with pictures the minute I finished opening her. I hope to hear from them tomorrow. Since it was Sunday today they were probably closed. I have another big dolly project right now, so I am not stressing too much over waiting to work on my flowers. For what I am planing, I need to work on all the parts of both dolls at the same time.
Shashy, That is great news that your arms will be home soon!

    3. My arms cleared customs in Canada July 7 which is 2 days ago so they should be here soon. I am really hoping they aren't damaged because it seems like there is a lot of damage right now. My head came in 2 small boxes with bubble wrap around them. It seemed adequate and they weren't damaged. I know the arms used to come in a plastic box so hope they still do that and I am hoping they uses lots of packing. If the arms were broken at this point I don't know what I would do. My scream would probably be heard world wide. My small flower girl that was free was packaged very poorly. No packing and just it a little cloth bag. I was amazed she wasn't broken but she was perfect so maybe they aren't as fragile as they look. I am just careful when I open and close her arms and legs as they are so delicaste. I am thinking Anson will be very similar. Oh I can't wait.

    4. :aheartbea:danceYES!!!! Happy Day!!!! DDE just sent me an email,They are ordering me a new Anson head!!!!:dance:aheartbea
Yes Shashy, They must be stronger than we think! My heads and head caps came in one box all together. To top that off there was no bubble wrap at all. They were just loosely wrapped in that thin foam sheeting. The arms were stacked with nothing between the petals and only wrapped in saran wrap with the smaller pieces rattling around. I am surprised I didn't end up with just a box of broken bits. Only the doll bodies had any bubble wrap. The funny part is that Anson was damaged before she was shipped! I am still going to treat them like they were made of glass. I think once all the orders are filled and problems solved, getting replacement parts won't be happening.

    5. Got my petal arms today BUT the saga is not over for me. I got my arms wrapped like yours Lace princess, in saran wrap and could hear stuff rattling around, foam sheeting around them and then newspaper. That was OK but where was that plastic box the earlier people got their arms in? They seem to be getting very casual about how they ship stuff. Now here is the part I am extremely pissed about. There was no elastic for stringing and no S hooks for the petal hands. We do need S hooks don't we, they show them in the picture. I also expected some kind of directions. I don't work in a doll factory so I would have liked some kind of guidance. If they expect us to do our own stringing, send us the stuff we need to use and how to do it. I hope they didn't expect me to take the elastic out of the arms that are in the body, untie the knot and deal with short elastic and then take the S hooks out of the hands. I want to leave those arms intact. I don't have that stuff here. So I have contacted Denver Doll and told them of my displeasure. Displeasure is a mild word for how I really feel at this point. I ordered this doll December 1 and am totally fed up with the whole thing. The doll is not bringing joy at the moment and it should. Right now there is steam coming out of my ears.

    6. Instructions on how to attach the petal arms are on the DZ site with the original pictures for Moment and Anson, and yes DZ probably just expected you to use the string and S hooks that you got with the regular arms, since they're not exactly on at the same time. If the knot is inside the body then you shouldn't need to undo it. I believe St. James was the one to mention that the petal arms need to be strung pretty tight so the elastic at the length it is now should probably suffice.

    7. How can I restring without undoing the knot?

    8. Oh Shashy I feel so bad for you. Yes I would expect the materials to be there too. No one got directions though. St James put quite a bit of info in this thread about how she did it, thankfully.

    9. You'd have to pull the hands out of the elastic, by unhooking the hands and taking apart the arms to use the elastic for the petal arms.... you would have to do so even to remove the human arms (if you had a spare elastic) from the body, to replace them with the petal arms. Without the tension of the torso, the elastic as it is, would only keep the spare human arms from loosing the bits from itself, but they would clack around and you risk chipping them that way. I find keeping a little flat tackle like box of solid color a great place to keep spare body parts. (mostly hands in my case but i have a few franken-dollies too)

I only have my anson from the original order... but she only came with the two elastics. One for the body and one for the arms. However i never ordered her spare human arms because i knew i wouldnt be converting her to a human. i dont know what i will be expecting when Moment arrives (if ever.)

Also i'd like to note that my arm petals came in saran wrapped as well. Her head came in an Ikea Tupperware box, the body was bubble wrapped under the cushions and the petal arms were saran wrapped together (to which i assembled her wrong assuming that they were in order the way they were supposed to be. without looking at pics.) and then that was bubble wrapped and placed along side her body. and on a side note on that, i had to actually figure out the length of where to tie the elastic because she came with that bit of elastic unstrung with no knot. my first attempt was too loose, as i thought i had to leave slack for fear of chipping... but you actually have to tie it tighter and it works much nicer that way.

I'm sorry to hear your having problems with her. Maybe i should make a youtube video showing how to restring her? it would be kind of cool and useful.

    10. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...eam-of-Child-Restringing-Tutorial-(56-images)

Here's a link to a restringing tutorial with pictures(in case you're a visual learner like me), it's for a doll with regular arms but the principal is basically the same. You can skip the taking off the legs and torso bit if you're going to just reuse the elastic from the regular arms.

Kittywolf13 which dealer did you order your Anson through? I'm wondering if the difference in packaging may have to do with the dealers as well.

    11. Thanks Cloudedmind, Lace Princess, and Kittywolf. I think I will just try to get that first hand off and go from there. I am just so nervous of breaking the resin. Also the S hook on the hands looks pretty pushed together so hopefully I won't have to prie it apart. I remember a video from someone here who showed how to string this doll and in the end she did the the order of the petals wrong but that doesn't really matter. It showed how to do it. Who was it that made that video? I will have to go back and find it. Could be here all night finding it but it was pretty good. I am hoping the string for the real arms will be the right lenth for these petal arms but I am really thinking those real arms might be staying on the doll and the petal arms will be in a box. The whole process is scary. I do remember putting in eyes for the first time and putting on a head and was scared to death and now it is nothing so maybe this won't be so bad. Too bad DZ just didn't put those arms on the doll in the first place. I really think if they had done it, packed it real good, there wouldn't have been a problem. All this has put us flower people through a lot of stress for no reason. By the time I get this doll strung and dress, it could be nine months. Carrying my babies for 9 months was easier than this.

    12. Haha, It seem like 9 months is a typical time frame for anything to do with BJDs. Most of my Soom kids took 9 months from release, layaway then shipping. I figure my Moment and Anson will be together in about three months which will make a 9 month process from ordering to finish. Yep, easier to carry my three kids too!
Cloudedmind, thank you for that link!

    13. I read that tutorial on restringing. That doll was complicated and I think the newer dolls are easier. It did give me an idea of how it is done though and doing the arms is probably the easiest part. I think the hardest part of stringing will be deciding how tight to make these dolls. The people at the factories must have it down to a science and I don't know why they didn't cut and knot the string for us. That would make it a whole lot easier. They could have also included some wire for us. I don't have any but will check with my husband and see if he does. I think ribbon would be harder to string it through the holes than stiff wire.

    14. There's a handy trick to working out the tension if you are stringing arms: lay your doll flat on her back (take the head off so there is less to wrangle with while stringing), lay the arm part out in the correct order straight out from the shoulders - with these dolls you'll need to best each petal inside the other just a they will be when strung - so the "wingspan" is a straight line, fold your elastic exactly in half and hook your thumb into the loop, hold your thumb above the end point where the s-hook will attach to the hand/petal, stretch the tail ends of the elastic across to the other end point of hand/petal. Hold the elastic above the doll so it stays straight and pull as hard as you can. Mark the new point on the tail ends of the elastic where the hand/petal attachment is. Tie your knot at that point. Actually, I usually roll the knot to a place slightly below that mark so it's a bit tighter than I estimated it would need to be.
      Hope that makes sense!

    15. I ordered from Mint on Card both times. I haven't received my moment but I assume he will be packed likewise.

    16. Thanks St. James, I think I understand. In other words, the elastic should be very tight. I would have done it with the elastic totally relaxed and then would have found out it just hung loosely.

    17. Yeah, it's very hard to tighten arm elastic once it's in the doll, so being able to gauge exactly how long it needs to be beforehand is a timesaver. In all likelihood, the elastic that is already in your girl's arms is the correct length and you don't need to swap it out.
My s-hooks and arm elastic were packed in a separate plastic bag, so perhaps DZ thought that only the resin petals were missing if that's the only thing you reported missing. I am guessing the the dealers repacked the dolls, because my Moment head and Louis head were in a US Priority Mail box and the rest of the items were in the DZ mini doll box.

    18. Thats what happened to me. i laughed about it though. because it was not what i expected to happen... which now that i think back it makes total sense for it to be tight. LOL after all you dont want any doll so loose their arms hang from their sockets? why would anson be different. :P

    19. Hehe, admittedly, I did that too. ^.^"
I had assumed that it was cut to length and so put the knot on and strung it. It was quite loose. In the end I used just half of the elastic that was sent for the arms.

    20. Well, my Anson arrived today! Unfortunately she also has a chip out of one of her head petals. :( And I couldn't find it in her box or the stuff her head was wrapped in. *Le sigh*

Wow, do I love her petals! But her face... I really, really don't like her sculpt (then again, I find myself falling in love with fantasy dolls' parts but not their faces a LOT). She's got these half-closed eyes and this frown that just doesn't jive with me (I prefer smiling open-eyed heads). She is definitely going to need some modding before I'm completely happy with her. I think I'd like her eyes to be sleeping eyes; I'm not quite sure what to do with the mouth yet (mouths are complicated).

Now that I have her home, I can see how I want to blush her. I just need to get my butt in gear and spend money on an airbrush instead of more dolls. >.>

      Totally did this too. XD
