DollZone Moment and Anson discussion part 1

Oct 14, 2011

    1. I got a reply from DDE about the S hooks and elastic. They were great about it and they assumed the supplies were with the wrapped up arms. Anyways I have gotten over the initial disappointment and will wait for them to come or try to use what is on the human arms. They even offered to take the doll back but there is no way my baby is leaving this house. I am so in love with her even blank.

      Kittyfields
, so sorry yours has a chip. That is worse than my problem. How upsetting. Now you will have to wait for a new head. Too bad you don't like the face. I love her face even more than the pictures now. I too don't usually like half closed eyes but I do like her and her mouth is kind of droopy like you said but you can paint her to look happier. I will probably not paint all the way to the corners because of that but may change my mind. I love her little face and would be too afraid to mod her eyes.

This thing with the S hooks and elastic is seeming minor to me now. We got a horrible Thunder storm last night and it stripped all my flowers of their petals and most of their leaves. It wouldn't be so bad if we had just a few pots but we have won awards for our yard and its flowers so it is very disheartening. I am in a very depressed mood today as I look at all my hard work and hundreds of dollars in annuals go down the drain. Also our apple tree's apples are bruised and ruined. Our whole part of the city is the same though so I have many neighbours to be miserable with.

    2. That's awful about the storm damage, Shashy. Hopefully the flowers can recover. And I'm with you on loving Anson's face. I like the way she turned out and I find her more "philosophical" looking, than sad...like she's thinking very deep thoughts (which suits my Bohemia Rose's character.):) But I can see how it might not suit if someone likes smiling dolls.;) Here's how I painted mine...I kept it very soft.

    3. PoeticSoul, I love the way you did your faceup and your drawings on your girl are amazing. She is my favorite of all the Ansons. Love the outfits you made as well especially the one in the picture you just showed. I can't believe you made two gorgeous outfits. Did you change her eyes?

KittyFields, I think we have the same colour eyes. Mine are kind of a caramel pink colour with the pupil a darker same colour. I don't mind them but plan on getting that horrible blue putty out of there. It can be seen in the light. I really love the serene look of this doll and almost think I want the human version Anson head one. The body is amazing, so pretty. I do wish those side petals would stay on better though. I am wondering if they are like that for a reason. They catch on things so could be broken off if they stayed on better.

Also, DDE, have been fantastic. They sent a very nice email back about the elastic and s hook problem and have already mailed out the items to me. They had an Anson in stock so took them from there. They also said they strung the petal arms for a local customer and think the petal arms may take longer elastic. They were very understanding and apologetic. I am very pleased with their service.

    4. I have never heard of someone being allergic to silk. That is really too bad as silk is so gorgeous.

OK now, I have a question with regard to resin colour. I just put Anson beside a Clovera from a couple of years ago and both are the white and so different. I know Cllovera has not darkened because I questioned her colour when I got her. Both her and the small free fairy where so dark for white. Then later I got a 13 body and free deer girl and they were a little lighter but Anson is white white. Has anyone else noticed this that has a few DZ dolls? It would be upsetting if I were trying to match heads with bodies but in this case it doesn't matter. For my Anson I prefer this white color. I like the darker for the other dolls but how does a person know what white is and the other colour that is darker but I don't remember what they call it. Some companies are consistent with shades but obviously DZ are not?

    5. my mom is allergic to silk as well - but other than that, i don't know of any one else so i think it's a rare allergy. i'd love to use a bamboo fabric because they often are of similar weights to silk, but i have a really hard time finding a decent color selection....

i have several white dollzones and mine are all pretty much the same color (the eldest being slightly creamier than the other two) - and my roommate has several white dollzones as well and hers are all close to mine in colors - it would be easy to do body swapping for us.

    6. You can always just buy the fabric you want in polyester or some other synthetic.

    7. I would try for the bamboo if you can get a good colour but as it is a fairly new product, you might be looking for awhile. I guess I am a polyester snob and don't like to use it unless I really have to. I like natural fabrics better.

I wonder why my latest DZ doll is so white compared to my others that are creamy and yours are consistant. I just got it so maybe the newer batches are lighter resin. Anyone else notice this. For the look I am going for it will be fine. Since I really like her blank, I wanted her facets and blushing quite pale which is the opposite of what I Usually do. Normally I like high coloured. I think I will. Hange her eyes too. They are the blind look but will wait and see.

    8. I have found that the thinner window dressing fabrics are very good for sewing. They often have a lovely finish that looks rich and comes in a range of colors/patterns/textures (some even with embroidery), but also have enough body to hold the structure of the dress (which becomes important for something like the bodice of a victorian gown and bustle). They come in various materials, so it may be worth taking a look at. A little will go a long way since they can have wider rolls too. ^_^

I'm interested to see how these dolls get dressed!
My husband has decided that Medieval dress would suite them well, as their petal arms would replicate the look of the long sleeves of that style.
So far my own two are difficult to pin down...I've had the odd idea, only now that they are home, that they would make interesting sorts of jesters...(I have my boy in leggings with a pointed toe, as I was going to make something a bit Medieval inspired for a meet theme) and couldn't help but imagine him with brightly colored pom-poms at the tip of each petal.
I also have the strange desire to make them absinthe fairies!
The original plan was to make them the forest spirit Lord and Lady of the magical wood that is part of my doll's story in some incarnations. However, the absinthe idea would work well with another setting I like to toy with...so hm. Choices, choices. I have to wait to do any blushing work either way, as it is monsoon season here and I don't wish to fight the humidity. ^_~

    9. Ooooo...that's a fascinating idea, Cloudedmind! One of my very favorite aspects of these unusual dolls is the unique and creative interpretations people give their characters. It truly never ceases to amaze me. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how you style her visually.:)

Wow, darkmothflame, an allergy to silk must be awful.:( But for victorian clothing there are plenty of modern synthetic fabrics that are easily come by in any fabric store these days that mimic the look, feel, weight and drape of silk. (I know this has already been mentioned.) But the victorians also used velvets (many synthetics for that are prevalent as well.) And if you're going for authenticity of materials, even more common were the basic cotton fabrics and cotton lawn. Also linen.

Lady Ravenswood, absinthe fairies, jesters, lord and lady of the wood...oh my!:o Each idea is just wonderful. However will you choose?

    10. oh, i have nothing against synthetics! i just want something to mimic the weight of the heavier silk (but to scale) and i have an easier time finding the correct scaled weights in natural fabrics than in synthetics.

i may go for a cotton if i can find the right weight and sheen to it. not shiny, but not completely matte either....

i hadn't thought much about using interior fabrics because i thought they would be too heavy, but those for window dressing would probably work because they tend to be of a lighter weight! now i just need to see her in person so i can figure out what color greens to use....

    11. MOC gave me an option to cancel my order, seeing as DZ won't replace broken petals anymore and i had to take it T^T No more Moment for me. Super uber jelly of everyone's Moment (I'm a sucker for boys and DEM HIPS!!), but I still love my Anson c:

    12. DZ won't replace broken petals? When did they announce that?

    13. St. James you can follow the discussion about Dollzone letting the distributors know they will not replace broken parts on shipping from the distributors to buyers in the DZ waiting room thread. I think this only applies to Moment and Anson. I still don't know if I will be getting my replacement head, but it was promised before this news.

    14. St. James I got an email saying that while DZ will replace parts that get broken from them to the dealer, they won't recast anson or moment petals/heads/ear pieces if they break between the dealer and you. MoC will refund you if the break is major, but if its a small chip or something, they can't replace the part and you need to live with it. Knowing this, MoC gave people a choice of getting the doll(s) or getting a refund.

Lace Princess I got the email only a couple of days ago, so if you were promised a head, you should be getting a head c:

    15. Ah, I see. That makes sense. There really isn't any reason that DZ should take responsibility for the dolls once they have been delivered to the dealers, since the dealers repack them. It's hardly DZ's fault if their poorly packed after that. I doubt those poor silicone molds will hold up for very much longer! The fail rate must be extraordinary!

    16. well, i can attest that mint on card does NOT poorly pack them! i can't believe how well packed my anson was - it took me literally half an hour just to get all the bubble wrap and paper of of her! (i'm sure a lot of it must have been original from dollzone - and i can't believe how well the layers and layers of toilet paper worked to keep those delicate petals safe! )

the weather gods seem to like me this week so i'm hoping i can snap a quick picture of my flowers together - they're very different, but i adore them both, and in the end it all worked out (even if not even remotely like i planned.... )

i've also picked a name for my girl - dendrobium - it's my favorite group of orchids - i used to have dozens of them (along with a large number of odontoglossum) until one of my cats decided to eat every single one of them..... so i'm no longer able to keep any real orchids, but i think i can create a fantasy one that will be safe from him.

i've already envisioned her dress in my mind and i'm going to see if we have any green fabrics on hand that might work - if not a trip to the store next week will be in order. because i'm going to go for a very structured bustle skirt i think i will go with a medium weight cotton rather than trying to work with something to replicate the heavy silks - it will hold up better on the small scale.

    17. no, they didn't charge me at all. i removed the rhinestones from her face up, but other than that i don't think i'll change her... i had wondered about giving her spots (which are typical of odontoglossum orchids, but i'm liking the simple pink a lot)

i got the yellowy/peach eyes and i think they're 16s actually.... i know i put 14s in my boy and will probably look for some 14s for her. i think i have some pale green eyes that might work....

here is a picture of them - i can't believe how yellow poor aphelion looks (a lot of it is the colors i picked for his blushing) - and my little sea dragon serendipity snuck in (hey, renata is based off of vines so she counts as a planthro of sorts, right? )

and a close up of her face - she still has a bit of residue from the rhinestones but i'm going to work on that over the next few days (my main focus this weekend will be my own sculpted dolls and pattern for her dress) - http://4oni.com/angelsdream/dzflowers-2.jpg

    18. Have'nt really had the time to work on my Mimer, but today I turned he's eyes around (XD) and fially I'm pleased with them. <3 And I feel that I want to continue working on him ^^

    19. Thanks! I want them to be a bit scary ^^
Yes but I have already posted them here, some where. I have the pictures on my flickr : http://www.flickr.com/photos/75992662@N02/sets/72157629711040892/

      ^_^

    20. yeah, it's really nice now that i see it in person - in the end i'm happy with it, even if at first i was rather upset :sweat

as to the flower decal - it looks to me like a sticker for nail art - i know i have used some in the past on other dolls and they work great, but can sometimes be a pain to come off! (in my experience they tend to break apart rather than peel off nicely in one piece....)

skogstoka - i just LOVE what you did with your dolls! it's great to see such dark interpretations!
