DollZone Moment and Anson discussion part 1

Oct 14, 2011

    1. Hello Everyone, Happy To Let You All Know Soon I Will Ne A Proud Daddy Of My Very Own MOMENT

    2. That's great gaiboiozz! Can't wait to see your Moment!

    3. Oh wow, hey gaiboiozz, that's awesome and welcome to the thread! I love what you've done with your other boys and can't wait to see how you style your Moment. I really enjoy how you "think outside the box" to create original characters, and with something as unique as Moment, this should be phenomenal for sure!

:)As for my own Anson, I'm actually considering expanding her artwork a bit to smooth out some of the visual transitions, and adding some more blushing too in another color as an enhancement. It makes me really nervous because I worked so hard on all that artwork and I would hate to mess any of it up!:doh But if I'm very careful and mask off the work I've already done, it should be do-able. I guess it's all about making her into that perfect vision of what I want...and in the end, that's all that really matters with our dolls. I've added this project to my 2013 yearly goals list here on DoA, so that means I'm probably going to do it!:shudder

    4. Ahh, it must be a time of inspiration for the flowers, what with spring coming and all... ^_~

Your rose is so lovely, PoeticSoul. I'm excited to see the new work on her, she will be beautiful. I know it! It is always so scary to work on pieces of art, to know if you should push a little more, or let them be, but sometimes the greatest fruits are only watered with sweat (So to speak! Hehe).

Well, I woke up in the early hours of the morning and had a wonderful idea for my flower boy. So, now that the weather is cooperating, I think I can finally get started on him. Ah! I feel like they've been waiting for so long. It will be good to see them with some color!

Welcome to the thread gaiboiozz. ^_^

    5. lol - i was watching the two moments in the marketplace and if i had the money, i would have snatched one up.... but congrats gaiboiozzz!

i can't wait for flowers to start blooming so i can take pics of aphelion and dendrobium.... i've had an idea for pictures of aphelion for awhile now but haven't had a chance to take them.

    6. Thank You Poeticsoul, Lady Ravenswood & Darkmothflame. You Guys Are So Welcoming. I Have A Short Layaway Before He Can Come Home. I Havent Really Given Him Much Idea Of How I Want Him To Look But I Know His Going To Be Great

    7. poetic soul I read your comment about you saying you were thinking of doing more work. I saw the picture from the page before this and saw a little you could do but please tred lightly. I would say your girl is perfect right now but maybe there could be more blushing but not much in my opinion. I would hate to hear the screams world wide if something happened. I know too well what happens when you add that last little something.

i am actually in Mexico on holidays but at home I have been working on my Anson. Not even the arms, just the head and it is taking forever becauses I am using those Pearlex powders and the layering is so slow. She is looking good and I am going for the pale delicate look. I was the one that got the real arms by mistake so those petal arms they eventually sent me will be done later. I am liking the real arms at the moment. I do have her outfit finished t Hugh as I did it first before starting painting. I used mostly antique fabrics and trims and happy with that as well. She need shoes though but probably something sandal looking. I will probably have to make them.

    8. Yay, congrats on getting your Moment gaiboiozz!

Its exciting to hear about all your various customizing plans for these lovely flowers! I'm still adoring my Anson totally blank, I like her just the way she is all pristine and pretty, but its always super exciting to see all the different versions that you all come up with :aheartbea

    9. Adding congratulations gaiboiozz!

:) I've been working on my own Anson and Moment. I ordered some Mako eyes during the event and they are the perfect size and color. Since I saw the Liquitex matte medium via airbrush tutorial as an alternative to MSC, I've been a lot more inclined to work on my flower people. The cost of MSC (especially if I messed up and had to start over) was just too daunting! The matte medium is working out great, goes a lot farther for the price, and I'm having fun using my new airbrush. I did find an air bubble in the front of one of Moment's upper face petals though, that was pretty disappointing. I hope it doesn't end up being an issue...

I suppose I should start working on clothes for them again as well.

    10. Hehe, finally started work today on the first flower, and I have to say...to everyone who has worked on these guys...I salute you!!
It's quite a trick to get around all those curves! Just figuring out where to put your hands while holding them gets complicated. *_*

    11. Lady Ravenswood I know exactly what you mean. I have spent hours on my girl and then I got busy with life (new computer, holiday) so there she sits in my sewing room with a brush pointed at the petal I left off at. I am using that Pearlex and it just kind of rubs off so you need to do many many coats of the stuff and spray in between. I really need to get back to her but my new computer with Windows 8 is haunting me. What are you using to paint yours with?

    12. Oh...well...I finally opted for the super intensive idea. Eheh. (Cross your fingers for me?) Eh, but the sculpt itself is so amazing, might as well go all out right?!

So basically, each side of each petal is going to be based on a different butterfly or moth wing. The outer side of each petal will be in vivid color, while the inner sides will be done in black/white/brown tones. It's a bit counter to actual nature...but it's more visually striking on the doll, so I decided to let "artistic license" dictate. Hehe.

So far I've worked most of a day...and done two petal sides...

This photo doesn't show the blushing on the second wing yet.

What did I get myself into?
Hehe, it will be worth it though. ^_~

    13. That is very cool Lady Ravenswood! Beautifully done! I can't wait to see her finished!
(The photo doesn't show for me here, but I got the link in my email notification.)

    14. Lady Ravenswood, oh bravo!!! I :aheartbealove, love, love:aheartbea that idea and your execution of it is absolutely brilliant! I'm so looking forward to seeing more as you go along...and then the grand finally. This is such a fabulous concept!

    15. Lady Ravenswood, I can't wait to see more. Beautiful work so far. :D

    16. Thanks. ^__^
I'm waiting for the MSC to dry on the outline of the third petal right now. Gotta keep going!
Hm, starting with a new can of MSC...I should probably get more...this seems like it will take a lot...

    17. Fantastic concept, Lady Ravenswood! I think she'll be amazing when you're finished. <3

So, much as I love these sculpts, I was never thrilled with the poseability limitations dictated by the longest petals. Since I'd gotten a pair of human arms with my Anson, I decided to try an alternate stringing arrangement... and this is the result:

I'm really pleased, and I think I'm going to be committing to it by modding the larger of the two petal sets I'm using to shorten them a little -- right now the arms are just a hair long. I may also try swapping in Moment's equivalent petals first, just to see if I like them better. :sweat

    18. Ooh! That's neat! I actually really like that the arms are long. ^_^"

Well, I finished the third wing, but the wind has picked up enough that I don't think I can spray more today. Saddly. Ah, spring in Albuquerque...
      Actually, this is Moment.

      I still don't quite have a set plan for Anson yet...eheh. ^.^

    19. Whoops! Well, he's going to be a very handsome being indeed! <3

And thanks! Here's another shot, in her new home on my shelf:

I just love her in this new configuration! Now to see what I can do with her face... definitely want to do some sculptural mods there. :)

    20. Logodae I think you have your girl strung just like mine. :) I love the look it gives her, and I'll be able to use the extra petals for another doll. I need to finish the last little bit of blushing on my Anson so I can share her. Really all she's lacking is the color on her lower arms. C'mon nice weather- I need to spray some dolly parts!
